We experienced a rare case of parosteal lipoma, which located on the periosteum of the foot 4th metatarsus. A 22-year-old woman visited the hospital with painful mass in her foot. Based on the assessment of plain radiographs, computed tomography scan, and magnetic resonance image, it was suspected as lipoma. Marginal excision was performed and parosteal lipoma was confirmed histologically. Any local recurrence and complications were not observed in 2 years after surgery.

Background and Objectives : After thyroidectomy, many patients experience problems report such things as reduced voice range and vocal fatigue, swallowing problems without superior and recurrent laryngeal nerve injury. The purpose of this study was to evaluate voice and swallowing problems before and after thyroid surgery without laryngeal nerve injury. Materials and Methods : Ninety-three patients who underwent thyroidectomy without laryngeal nerve injury and completed the follow-up evaluations were studied between June 2013 and December 2015. Each evaluation was performed preoperatively, as well as 1 week, 1 month postoperatively. Analysis was performed including voice handicap index (VHI), dysphagia handicap index (DHI), and acoustic voice analysis. Results : Patients show significant variation of parameters in the fundamental frequency (F), maximal phonation time (MPT), shimmer, jitter and soft phonation index (SPI) early after operation, and most of them showed recovery of parameters after 1month of operation. Perceptive complaint of voice and swallowing also showed significant decreased after operation (p<0.005). After 1month of operation, MPT, highest frequency and frequency ranges still showed significant decreased parameters. Comparing acoustic and perceptive parameters of total thyroidectomy and lobectomy, there was no significant changes between them except highest frequency (p=0.042). Conclusion : The results from both subjective and objective evaluations show voice and swallowing disturbance after thyroidectomy even in the absence of laryngeal nerve and provide patients information about the recovery process after surgery. Highest frequency parameter showed most significant changes after operation.

The purpose of this study was to set and analyze the utilization of the substituted agricultural land in the Dongtan new town in Hwa-seong city. The results of this study were as follows. In the respect of the land efficiency and utilization, the need of the agricultural land in the Dongtan has shrunk. Therefore, the land should be reconsidered and developed as other purposes. The land could be developed as the weekend farm for the city people. The weekend farm is currently gaining popularity because the citizens want to not only experience the nature but also get a healthy food. So, the land in the new town could provide them with a good place. And the Han-ok(Traditional Korean style housing) is recently in the limelight of many people because of its healthy function and the special aesthetic, so the agricultural land of Dongtan could be a great opportunity to develop the Han-ok village. Lastly, the logistics center for agricultural products could be proposed. Because the traffic condition of the new town is satisfactory, the land is idealistic as the logistics center which connect the capital with the local. These practical uses of agricultural land in the Dongtan new town will be able to provide opportunities to improve the quality of life in the area and develop the land more efficiently.

Metronidazole is an antimicrobial agent widely used for the treatment of anaerobic infection or antibiotics-associated diarrhea. It is generally thought to be safe, but can induce reversible toxic encephalopathy in the case of excessive or cumulative over-dose. Metronidazole-induced encephalopathy generally demonstrates the characteristic features of typical lesion location and bilaterality on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We report a case of metronidazole-induced encephalopathy with the involvement of asymmetric white matter. To our knowledge, only a few cases have been reported with respect to white matter lesion characteristics on MRI with diffusion-weighted images.

Clear cell sarcoma is rare and difficult to diagnose. Herein, we present a case of clear cell sarcoma in the dorsum of the wrist with MRI findings, including diffusion-weighted imaging, and histopathologic correlation, which was initially diagnosed as giant cell tumor of tendon sheath.

Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS) arising from the descending thoracic aorta is a rare type of tumor. To our knowledge, only a few cases have been reported in the literature. We present computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging findings of a 43-year-old male patient with undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma of the descending thoracic aorta, which showed enhancement on only magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRI with contrast enhancement may be useful in differentiating an aortic tumor from atherosclerotic disease.

화성(華城) 연쇄 살인 사건은 공간적, 시간적으로도 현재의 화성시 뿐만 아니라 화성시의 일부인 동탄 신도시와도 관련성이 크지 않다는 리얼리티(reality)에도 불구하고, 대중매체의 선정성으로 인해 사람들은 화성시를 부정적인 지역 이미지(image)를 가진 도시로 인식하게 되었다. 본 연구에서는 화성시의 부정적인 지역 이미지가 영화와 신문기사 등을 통해 어떻게 형성되었는지를 살펴본 후, 동탄 신도시에 거주하는 주민들과 학생들이 이러한 부정적인 지역 이미지를 어떻게 생각하고 있는 지를 주민 인터뷰와 학생들을 대상으로 한 멘탈맵(mental map)의 작성 등을 통해 탐색해 보았다. 이를 통해 장소에 내재된 도시의 부정적인 이미지에 대한 반발로 인해 표출되고 있는 화성시민으로 사는 것과 동탄 신도시 주민으로서 사는 것 사이의 지역 정체성(identity)의 혼란, 살인이라는 무서운 범죄의 장소로서의 상징적 의미와 역동적으로 발전하는 장소로서의 공간적 의미가 양립되고 있는 동탄 신도시의 장소감과 지역 정체성의 혼란의 양상을 드러내고자 하였다.

Purpose: To investigate the reliability of CT and MRI for quantitative and qualitative analyses of lumbar paraspinal muscle fatty infiltration (PSFI) and correlation of PSFI with intervertebral disc pathology. Materials and Methods: Lumbar spine CT and MRI of 36 subjects were reviewed retrospectively. Two observers independently outlined lumbar paraspinal muscles at each mid-intervertebral disc level. Paraspinal muscles on CT and MRI were graded according to the Goutallier grading system (GGS). The area, mean value, and standard deviation (SD) of the Hounsfield unit (HU) were obtained. Intervertebral discs were assessed on axial image of T2WI at each level. Correlations between qualitative and quantitative data and intervertebral disc pathology, age, and sex were evaluated. Results: Inter- and intra-observer agreements for results of GGS on MRI were substantial (κ = 0.79) and moderate (κ = 0.59), respectively. Inter- and intra-observer agreements for results of GGS on CT were almost perfect (κ = 0.88) and substantial (κ = 0.66), respectively. Quantitative measurements of HU showed almost perfect inter- and intra-observer reliabilities (κ = 0.82 and κ = 0.99, respectively). There were statistically significant correlations between intervertebral disc pathology and PSFI at L1-2, L2-3, and L4-5 levels on MRI and at L1-2 and L3-4 levels on CT. Age showed significant correlation with results of GGS at all levels on CT and MRI. Conclusion: This study showed that GGS results and HU measurements could be useful for evaluating PSFI because they showed correlations with intervertebral disc pathology results at certain levels.

Background: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the accuracy of reduction based on postoperative computed tomography (CT) images after arthroscopic stabilization using tightrope system for unstable distal clavicle fracture. Methods: Twelve patients with distal clavicle fracture combined with coracoclavicular (CC) ligament injury (type II, V) who received arthroscopically assisted fixation using a flip button device were evaluated for accuracy of reduction using 3-dimensional postoperative CT scan by measuring the degree of distal clavicular angulation and clavicular shortening. Results: Immediate postoperative plain radiograph confirmed restoration of the CC distance (CCD) in 10 patients. At final follow-up, the CCD remained reduced anatomically on plain radiographs in these patients. All patients showed excessive posterior angulation and shortening compared to the opposite side. The average Constant score recovered to 94.8 at final follow-up. Conclusions: Indirect reduction and arthroscopic subacromial approach with flip button fixation of unstable distal clavicle fractures demonstrated favorable clinical results despite unavoidable posterior angulation of distal clavicle and shortening the total length of clavicle.
