Objectives : This study was designed to compare the effect between method of regulating ascending kidney water and descending heart fire and sweet bee venom pharmacopuncture on peripheral facial paralysis. Methods : We investigated 30 cases of patient with peripheral facial paralysis who visited at Dept. of Acupuncture & Moxibustion, of Oriental Medicine Dong-eui University from November 29, 2010 to May 15, 2011. Subjects were divided randomly into two groups, group A and group B. We applied method of regulating ascending kidney water and descending heart fire twice or three times a week for group A and sweet bee venom pharmacopuncture with same cycle for group B. We measured the effect of treatment to each group five times by using Yanagihara's unweighed grading system. at first examination, after 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and 4 weeks. Results : Both groups showed significant improvement in Yanagihara's scores. And group A was improved better than group B for two weeks from the first examination significantly. But after one week from then, the Yanagihara's scores of group B were higher than those of group A significantly. There were no significant differences during other period. Conclusions : Method of regulating ascending kidney water and descending heart fire is more effective than sweet bee venom pharmacopuncture on peripheral facial paralysis during acute period. And after acute period, sweet bee venom pharmacopuncture is more effective than method of regulating ascending kidney water and descending heart fire.

Objective : To report seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp which is treated by Bee-venom Acupuncture therapy. Methods : Under the assumption that Be-venom Therapy may be effective for treatment seborrheic dermatitis, Bee-venom acupuncture was injected subcutaneously into the lesion including Gv24(神庭), Gv23(上星), Gv22, Gv20(白會), B4(曲差), B5(五處), B6(承光), S8(頭維), etc. Results : The symptoms including erythematous plaque, scale, itching were resolved clearly except a little scale by Bee-venom acupuncture Therapy. Conclusions : Bee-venom acupuncture Therapy is effective in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. if more clinical trials like this are proved to be effective in seborrheic dermatitis, we can expect that Bee-venom acupuncture Therapy is used to treatment of seborrheic dermatitis as good method.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of cervical acupotomy & acupunture on facial&trigemial nerve branch for peripheral facial paralysis and postauricular pain. Methods : We investigated 30 patients with peripheral facial paralysis who had visited at Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion Medicine of Korean Medicine Hospital of Dong-Eui University from April 1st, 2013 to April 30th, 2014. Group A was treated by acupuncture and pharmacopuncture on facial&trigemial nerve branch and Cervical acupotomy and group B was treated by acupuncture and pharmacopuncture on routine facial paralysis acupuncture point without acupotomy. Results : The improvement of Yanagihara's score in group A is higher than group B during every period. The improvement of VAS score in group A is higher than group B during every period. Conclusions : These results suggest that cervical acupotomy and acupunture on facial & trigemial nerve branch may be effective for peripheral facial paralysis and postauricular pain.

Objectives : This study has been designed and performed to identify the effect of Hominis Placenta herbal acupuncture which is usually used in reducing sleep pattern disturbances. Methods : The study subjects studied included 48 patients who were admitted in hospital located in Pusan, and they were classified into 2 groups : 25 patients in the experimental group who injected Hominis Placenta herbal acupuncture and 23 patients in the control group who were treated by acupuncture. The both group injected on $GB_{20}$, $GB_{12}$ and $GB_{20}$ for 5 days without medicine. The sleep pattern disturbance score was measured by using 15 questions according to Korean Sleep Scale A(Oh, Jin Joo. Song, Mi. Soon. Kim, Shin Mi. 1998). Results & conclusions : The sleep pattern disturbance score of the experimental group who injected Hominis Placenta herbal acupuncture was significantly lower than that of the control group(t=7.00 p=.00). These results provided that Hominis Placenta herbal acupuncture of $GB_{20}$, $GB_{12}$ and HT, was effective for relieving sleep pattern disturbances, it is need mere sample's number and more treatment's duration.

Objectives : This study was performed to evaluate the effect of SAAM acupuncture treatment for patients with fatigue. Methods : The clinical study was carried out with 56 fatigue patients who had visited the Fatigue Clinic in Dong-Seo Oriental Medical Hospital from April 2007 to September 2007. Patients were randomly assigned to two groups : SAAM acupuncture treatment group or control group. The acupuncture points used in the SAAM acupuncture treatment group were $LU_8$, $SP_3$, $HT_8$, $CV_6$, and $BL_{15}$. Acupuncture points used in the control group were non-acupoints near $LU_8$, $SP_3$, $HT_8$, $CV_6$, and $BL_{15}$. The patient's symptoms were assessed at baseline, after 1 week and after 2 weeks of treatment using theMultidimensional Fatigue Scale(MFS). Results : After 2 weeks, MFS score differences between the SAAM acupuncture treatment group and the control group were statistically significant(p<0.05). Conclusions : The results suggest that SAAM acupuncture treatment can be used to improve symptoms in patients with fatigue.

Facial palsy is commonly encountered disease in the clinic but bilateral facial palsy is known as rare disease. Type of facial nerve paralysis include unilateral, recurrent ipsilateral, recurrent alternating and bilateral simultaneous palsies. Among the types, the reported incidence of bilateral simultaneous palsy is 0.3~2% of facial paralysis patients. We experienced I case of patient with bilateral simultaneous facial palsy that was concluded as bilateral bell's palsy. Objective : The purpose of this paper is to report the patient with bilateral facial palsy, who improved by oriental medical treatment. Another purpose is to review the current literature and to differential diagnosis of bilateral facial paralysis. Methods and Results : The patient was treated by acupuncture, herb medication and self-massage on facial muscle for 14 weeks. House-brackmann grading score was improved into I/I (Rt/Lt) from IV/IV. Conclusion : Through reviewing some literatures and reports, It is concluded that bilateral facial palsy was related to many other disorders and more ominous than unilateral facial palsy. therefore, its work-up should include a complete neurologic assesment and thorough evaluation. also, we consider that bilateral Bell's palsy can improve by oriental medical treatments.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to develop and activate the methods of using the arsenic compounds as the anti-cancer medicine. Methods: We investigated some literatures on the using methods, the effects for anti-cancer, and the toxicity of the arsenic compounds. Results: The results are summarized as follows. 1. As is the one of the nitrogen familIy(5A familly). 2. The Arsenic compounds which have been used as the one of the oriental medicine are the Arsenicum Sulbimatum($As_2O_3$) and the Realgar(AsS). 3. As+ 3 is more toxic than the other arsenic compounds. The fatal amount is 100-300 mg. So, it is used 1-5 mg/day as a medicine. 4. The Arsenicwn Sulbimatum($As_2O_3$) and the Realgar(AsS) are used after the heat treatment or the boiling with the acetic acid. 5. The gastrointestinal tract, vessel, and respiration are affected by the acute toxicity of the arsenic compounds. 6. The arsenic compounds are good for the dermatosis and the malignant cancer, especially the acute promyelocytic leukcrnia(APL). we should study the reason of these and the different effect in concentration, also develop new methods of using the the arsenic compounds as getting rid of their toxicity.

Objectives : We studied anti-allergic effects of Cinnamomi Ramulus(CR) herbal acupuncture and Cinnamomi Ramulus extract. Methods : In vivo, animals were herbal-acupunctured with CR at both ST36s three times for 5 days. Then, we induced active systemic anaphylatic shock using compound 48/80 in ICR mice, and passive cutaneous anaphylaxis using anti-DNP IgE in Sprague Dawley rat. In vitro, we measured cell viability, ${\beta}$ -hexosaminidase release and the expressions of IL-4, TNF-${\alpha}$ and COX-2 mRNA in RBL-2H3 cells after treatment of various concentrations of CR extract. Results : In vivo, CR herbal acupuncture pretreatments at both ST36s inhibited compound 48/80-induced active systemic anaphylatic shock. Passive cutaneous anaphylaxis was inhibited by CR herbal acupuncture pretreatments at both ST36s and optional points. In vitro, CR extract treatments did not affect on cell viability and inhibited ${\beta}$-hexosaminidase release. CR extract treatments also decreased the expressions of IL-4, TNF-${\alpha}$ and COX-2 mRNA in RBL-2H3 cells. Conclusions : These results suggest that CR herbal acupuncture and CR extract should be beneficial in the inhibition of allergic inflammatory response.

The purpose of this case is to report the improvement after treatment on the patient who has development disabilities with Goldenhar's syndrome. We treated the patient with acupuncture treatment from 10th November 2006 to 22nd May 2008. We checked the patient with Goldberg's Developmental Milestone. After treatment developmental levels of cognition, motion, language and sociability were improved. This case shows oriental medical treatment has useful effect on development disabilities.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of 12 weeks-walking exercise with functional shoes on chronic low back pain. Methods : The subjects of this study were 18 females from thirty to sixty years old who had suffered from low back pain over 12 weeks. They wore S shoes with curved out-sole and soft material in arch of foot We asked them to walk wearing shoes for 1 hour a day over 4 days a week for 12 weeks. Improvement of the symptoms was evaluated by pain rating scale, Oswestry low-back pain disability index. We measured lumbar lordotic angle, Ferguson's angle, bone mineral density, body composition. The measurements were checked before and after exercise. Results : This study showed significant improvement in pain rating scale, oswestry low-back pain disability index, and body composition. And lumbar lordotic angle, Ferguson's angle and bone mineral density decreased. Conclusions : These results showed that walking exercise with functional shoes could decrease the symptoms of chronic low back pain. But, it's too difficult to conclude whether the efficacy was due to functional shoes or walking exercise because we didn't set the control group wearing general shoes.
