Effect of deposition conditions on the magnetic properties of SmCo/Cr prepared by a RF magnetron sputtering method was studied. We obtained the maximum coercivity of 3.2 kOe in the sample of Cr(50 nm)/SmCo(40 nm, 50W, 20 mT)/Cr(150 nm, 100 W, 30 mT). The coercivity of the SmCo/Cr depends largely on the roughness of the Cr underlayer and the composition of SmCo. The roughness of the Cr underlayer increased with increasing the Ar pressure and thickness, and promoted the isolation of SmCo grains which resulted in an enhanced coercivity. The composition of the SmCo was changed with RF power and Ar pressure due to the mass difference between Sm and Co and the resputtering phenomena. The maximum coercivity was obtained in the composition of about 20 at.% Sm. The mechanism of magnetization reversal of the present SmCo films changed from domain wall motion to domain rotation as the RF power and the Ar pressure increase. This was though to be due to the defects, such as the roughness of Cr surface, porous column boundaries etc., which inhibit domain wall movement.
It is very important to understand the domain structures of ferroelectric BaTiO3 in the poling process. Especially because {111} twinning is frequently observed in most BaTiO3 ceramics it is required to know the relations between the ferroelectric domains and the structural twin. In this study the domain structures of a {111} twinned crystal sample were observed under a polarizing microscope. and the relation between the {111} twin and the domain configurations could be classified into two types of 'V'-shape and linear shape penetrating perpendicular to the twin boundary. Domain formation obeys the symmetry of the {111} twining when a new domain structure is developed by heat treatment and surface deformation due to domain formation is also occured symmetrically between the both sides of the{111} twin boundary. This symmetrical behavior of the domains could be interpreted with the "head-to-tall" orientation of the domains across the {111} twin boundary.
The analysis of characteristics of turbulent flow and thermal boundary layer for natural convection caused by fire along vertical wall is performed. The 4m-high vertical copper plate is heated and kept at a uniform surface temperature of $60^{\circ}C$ and the surrounding fluid (air) is kept at $16.5^{\circ}C$. The flow and temperature is solved by large eddy simulation(LES) of FDS code(Ver.6), in which the viscous-sublayer flow is calculated by Werner-Wengle wall function. The whole analyzed domain is assumed as turbulent region to apply wall function even through the laminar flow is transient to the turbulent flow between $10^9$<$Gr_z$<$10^{10}$ in experiments. The various grids from $7{\times}7{\times}128$ to $18{\times}18{\times}128$ are applied to investigate the sensitivity of wall function to $x^+$ value in LES simulation. The mean velocity and temperature profiles in the turbulent boundary layer are compared with experimental data by Tsuji & Nagano and the results from other LES simulation in which the viscous-sublayer flow is directly solved with many grids. The relationship between heat transfer rate($Nu_z$) and $Gr_zPr$ is investigated and calculated heat transfer rates are compared with theoretical equation and experimental data.
An analytical solution procedure is described to estimate the developed passive lateral earth Pressures behind a vertical rigid retaintng wall rotating about its toe into a mass of cohesionless soil. Various stases of wall rotation, starting from an at-rest state to an initial Passive state to a full Passive state, are considered in the analysis. Condition of failure defined by a modified Mohr-coulomb criterion, together with equilibrium conditions, is used to obtain the necessary equations for the solution. Using methods of stress characteristics and numerical finite difference, a complete solution within and on the boundaries of the entire solution domain is made possible. The variations of the soil shear strength and the wall friction at various depths and stages of wall rotation are also taken into account in the analysis. The results predicted by the developed method of analysis are compared with those obtained from the experimental model tests on loose and dense sand. The comparisons show good agreements at various stages of retaining wall rotation Fin- ally, results of analytical parametric study are presented to demonstrate the effects of wall fric- tion on the resultant thrust and distribution of developed lateral earth pressures.

A numerical model was developed to predict the density wave oscillation (DWO) in the furnace wall tubes of a fossil-fired once-through boiler. The transient flow fields in the tubes were obtained using a 1D finite volume method in the time domain. A header model was also implemented to simulate the parallel tube connection of the wall tubes. The inlet and outlet mass flow variation in one of the parallel tubes was examined after a heat perturbation to find the DWO. After successful verification with experimental results reported in literature, the developed model was applied to the wall tubes of a 700-MW boiler furnace. In contrast to the simulation of Takitani's experiment, in which the unstable power thresholds tended to rise in the reduced bypass channel flow, no remarkable changes were observed in the power thresholds in the parallel channel modeling of the wall tubes of the boiler furnace.
Numerical investigations have been conducted on the assessment of the performance of drug-eluting stent. Computational fluid dynamics is applied to investigate the flow disturbances and drug distributions released from the stent in the immediate vicinity of the given idealized stent in the protrusion into the flow domain. Our simulations have revealed the drug concentration in the flow field due to the presence of a drug-eluting stent within an arterial segment. Wall shear stress increases with Reynolds number for a given stent diameter, while it increases with stent diameter for a given Reynolds number. The drug concentration is dependent on both Reynolds number and stent geometry. In pulsatile flow, the minimum drug concentration in the zone of inter-wire spacing occurs at the maximum acceleration of the inlet flow while the maximum drug concentration gains at the maximum deceleration of the inlet flow. These results provide an understanding of the flow physics in the vicinity of drug-eluting stents and suggest strategies for optimal performance of drug-eluting stent to minimize flow disturbance.

The three-dimensional laminar mixed convection flow between the conductive printed circuit boards. on which the heat generating rectangular blocks are uniformly distributed, has been examined in the present study. The flow and heat-transfer characteristics are assumed to be pseudo periodic in the streamwise direction and symmetric in the cross-stream direction. Using an algorithm of SIMPLER, the continuity equation. the Navier-Stokes equations and the energy equation are solved numerically in the three-dimensional domain Inside the channel. The convective derivative terms are discretized by the QUICK scheme to accurately capture the flow field. The flow and the heat transfer characteristics are thoroughly examined for various Re and Gr.

In the present study, a computational analysis of the flow in a centrifugal blower is carried out to predict a performance and to explain noise characteristics of the blower. Unsteady, 3D Navier-Stokes equations were solved with k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model using CFX software. CFD results were compared with the experimental data that is acquired from an experiment conducted with the same blower. The pressure fluctuation in the blower was transformed into the frequency domain by Fourier decomposition to find the relationship between flow behaviors and noise characteristics. Sound pressure level (SPL) which is obtained from wall pressure fluctuation at impeller outlet represents relative overall sound level of the blower well. Sound spectra show that there are some specific peak frequencies at each mass flow rate and it can be explained by flow pattern.
Flow with moving free surfaces is analyzed with an the Eulerian coordinate system. This study proposes a semi-implicit filling algorithm using VOF in which the PLIC (Piecewise Linear Interface Calculation) -type interface reconstruction method and the donor-acceptor-type front advancing scheme are adopted. Also, a new scheme using extrapolation of the stream function is proposed to find the velocity of the node that newly enters the computational domain. The effect of wall boundary conditions on the flow field and temperature field is examined by numerically solving a two-dimensional casting process.

In this paper, we compare the quality of images reconstructed by a conventional delayed-sum (DS) algorithm and radiation pattern-based DS algorithm. In order to evaluate the quality of images, we apply the target-to-clutter ratio (TCR), which is commonly used in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image assessment. The radiation pattern-based DS algorithm enhances the TCR of the image by focusing the target signals and preventing contamination of the radar scene. We first consider synthetic data obtained through GprMax2D/3D, a finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) forward solver. Experimental data of a 2-GHz bandwidth stepped-frequency signal are collected using a vector network analyzer (VNA) in an anechoic chamber setup. The radiation pattern-based DS algorithm shows a 6.7-dB higher TCR compared to the conventional DS algorithm.
