Signal decomposition is a computational technique that dissects a signal into its constituent components, providing supplementary information. In this study, the capability of two common signal decomposition techniques, including wavelet-based and empirical mode decomposition, on preterm birth classification was investigated. Ten time-domain features were extracted from the constituent components of electrohysterogram (EHG) signals, including EHG subbands and EHG intrinsic mode functions, and employed for preterm birth classification. Preterm birth classification and anticipation are crucial tasks that can help reduce preterm birth complications. The computational results show that the preterm birth classification obtained using wavelet-based decomposition is superior. This, therefore, implies that EHG subbands decomposed through wavelet-based decomposition provide more applicable information for preterm birth classification. Furthermore, an accuracy of 0.9776 and a specificity of 0.9978, the best performance on preterm birth classification among state-of-the-art signal processing techniques, were obtained using the time-domain features of EHG subbands.
A new preconditioning method is investigated to reduce the roundoff error in computing derivatives using Chebyshev col-location methods(CCM). Using this preconditioning causes ration of roundoff error of preconditioning method and CCm becomes small when N gets large. Also for accuracy enhancement of differentiation we use a domain decomposition approach. Error analysis shows that for this domain decomposition method error reduces proportional to the length of subintervals. Numerical results show that using domain decomposition and preconditioning simultaneously gives super accu-rate approximate values for first derivative of the function and good approximate values for moderately high derivatives.

In order to fill the holes with complex shapes in the large polygon model, a new approach which is based on the implicit surface interpolation method combined with domain decomposition method is presented. In the present study, a surface is constructed by creating smooth implicit surface from the incomplete polygon model through which the surface should pass. In the method an implicit surface is defined by a radial basis function, a continuous scalar-valued function over the domain $R^3$ The generated surface is the set of all points at which this scalar function takes on the value zero and is created by placing zero-valued constraints at the vertices of the polygon model. In this paper the well-known domain decomposition method is used in order to treat the large polygon model. The global domain of interest is divided into smaller domains where the problem can be solved locally. LU decomposition method is used to solve a set of small local problems and their local solutions are combined together using the weighting coefficients to obtain a global solution. In order to show the validity of the present study, various hole fillings are carried out fur the large and complex polygon model of arbitrary topology.

This paper describes an application of domain decomposition method for parallel finite element analysis which is required to large scale 3D structural analysis. A parallel finite element method system which adopts a domain decomposition method is developed. Node is generated if its distance from existing node points is similar to the node spacing function at the point. The node spacing function is well controlled by the fuzzy knowledge processing. The Delaunay triangulation method is introduced as a basic tool for element generation. Domain decomposition method using automatic mesh generation system holds great benefits for 3D analyses. Aa parallel numerical algorithm for the finite element analyses, domain decomposition method was combined with an iterative solver, i.e. the conjugate gradient(CG) method where a whole analysis domain is fictitiously divided into a number of subdomains without overlapping. Practical performance of the present system are demonstrated through several examples.
Structural system identification (SSI) is an inverse problem of difficult solution. Currently, difficulties lie in the development of algorithms which can cater to large size problems. In this paper, a parameter estimation technique based on evolutionary strategy is presented to overcome some of the difficulties encountered in using the traditional system identification methods in terms of convergence. In this paper, a non-traditional form of system identification technique employing evolutionary algorithms is proposed. In order to improve the convergence characteristics, it is proposed to employ immune algorithms which are proved to be built with superior diversification mechanism than the conventional evolutionary algorithms and are being used for several practical complex optimisation problems. In order to reduce the number of design variables, domain decomposition methods are used, where the identification process of the entire structure is carried out in multiple stages rather than in single step. The domain decomposition based methods also help in limiting the number of sensors to be employed during dynamic testing of the structure to be identified, as the process of system identification is carried out in multiple stages. A fifteen storey framed structure, truss bridge and 40 m tall microwave tower are considered as a numerical examples to demonstrate the effectiveness of the domain decomposition based structural system identification technique using immune algorithm.
A domain decomposition (DD) scheme for GPU-based Monte Carlo (MC) calculation which is essential for whole-core depletion is introduced within the framework of the modified history-based tracking algorithm. Since GPU-offloaded MC calculations suffer from limited memory capacity, employing DDMC is inevitable for the simulation of depleted cores which require large storage to save hundreds of newly generated isotopes. First, an automated domain decomposition algorithm named wheel clustering is devised such that each subdomain contains nearly the same number of fuel assemblies. Second, an innerouter iteration algorithm allowing overlapped computation and communication is introduced which enables boundary neutron transactions during the tracking of interior neutrons. Third, a bank update scheme which is to include the boundary sources in a way to be adequate to the peculiar data structures of the GPU-based neutron tracking algorithm is presented. The verification and demonstration of the DDMC method are done for 3D full-core problems: APR1400 fresh core and a mock-up depleted core. It is confirmed that the DDMC method performs comparably with the standard MC method, and that the domain decomposition scheme is essential to carry out full 3D MC depletion calculations with limited GPU memory capacities.

This paper presents a numerical study on multigrid algorithms of V-cycle type for problems posed in the Hilbert space H(curl) in three dimensions. The multigrid methods are designed for discrete problems originated from the discretization using the hexahedral Nédélec edge element of the lowest-order. Our suggested methods are associated with smoothers constructed by substructuring based on domain decomposition methods of nonoverlapping type. Numerical experiments to demonstrate the robustness and the effectiveness of the suggested algorithms are also provided.
In this paper, a non-overlapping rectangular domain decomposition method is presented in order to numerically solve two-dimensional telegraph equations. The method is unconditionally stable and efficient. Spectral radius of the iteration matrix and convergence rate of the method are provided theoretically and confirmed numerically by MATLAB. Numerical experiments of examples are compared with several methods.
We propose V-cycle multigrid methods for vector field problems arising from the lowest order hexahedral Nédélec finite element. Since the conventional scalar smoothing techniques do not work well for the problems, a new type of smoothing method is necessary. We introduce new smoothers based on substructuring with nonoverlapping domain decomposition methods. We provide the convergence analysis and numerical experiments that support our theory.

This paper reports the suitability of a domain decomposition technique for the hybrid simulation of dilute polymer solution flows using Eulerian Brownian dynamics and Radial Basis Function Networks (RBFN) based methods. The Brownian Configuration Fields (BCF) and RBFN method incorporates the features of the BCF scheme (which render both closed form constitutive equations and a particle tracking process unnecessary) and a mesh-less method (which eliminates element-based discretisation of domains). However, when dealing with large scale problems, there appear several difficulties: the high computational time associated with the Stochastic Simulation Technique (SST), and the ill-condition of the system matrix associated with the RBFN. One way to overcome these disadvantages is to use parallel domain decomposition (DD) techniques. This approach makes the BCF-RBFN method more suitable for large scale problems.
