  • The goals of this study were to examine how children's recognition of various emotions, emotion expression, and social interactions among their peers differed according to their attachment styles. A total of 65 three to five years old children completed both attachment story-stem doll plays and a standard emotion recognition task. Trained observers documented children's valence of emotion expression and social interactions among their peers in the classroom. Consistent with attachment theory, children who were categorized as secure in the doll play were more likely to express positive emotions than children who were categorized as avoidant in the doll play. Children who were categorized as avoidant in the doll play were more likely to express neutral emotions among their peers than children who were categorized as secure and anxious in the doll play. The findings of this study contribute to the general attachment literature by documenting how attachment security plays a crucial role in having positive emotions in ordinary situations. It does so by also demonstrating how different attachment styles are associated with children's qualitatively different patterns of emotion processing, especially in terms of their expression of emotions.

  • The sexual maturity and reproductive cycle of the common squid, Todarodes pacificus captured from the East Sea, Korea, between January 2004 and January 2006, were investigated by documenting changes in the gonadosomatic index (GSI), gonad development, and oocyte size frequency distribution. The GSI of females began to increase in July, reached a maximum in August, and then gradually decreased. The GSI of males increased from July to March. Using gonad histological observations, we identified four oocyte developmental stages. The changes in GSI and gonad tissue resulted in the classification of the annual reproductive cycle into the following four successive stages: immature (April to June), growing (June to July), mature (July to August), and ripe and spawning (August to March). According to the oocyte diameter size frequency distribution in the ovary, this species appeared to have asynchronous oocyte development and one spawning time.

  • In the assessment of existing RC buildings, the reliable appraisal of the compressive strength of in-situ concrete is a fundamental step. Unfortunately, the data that can be obtained by the available testing methods are typically affected by a high level of uncertainty. Moreover, in order to derive indications about the degradation and ageing of the materials by on site tests, it is necessary to have the proper terms of comparison, that is to say, to know the reference data measured during the construction phases, that are often unavailable when the building is old. In the cases when such a comparison can be done, the in situ strength values typically turn out to be lower than the reference strength values (tests performed on taken samples during the construction). At this point, it is crucial to discern and quantify the specific effect induced by different factors: ageing of the materials; poor quality of the placement, consolidation or cure of the concrete during the construction phases; damage due to drilling. This paper presents a procedure for correlating the destructive compressive tests and non-destructive tests (ultrasonic pulse velocity tests) with the data documenting the compressive strength tested during the construction phases. The research work is aimed at identifying the factors that induce the difference between the in-situ strength and cubes taken from the concrete casting, and providing, so, useful information for the assessment procedure of the building.

  • An archiving system designed to enable documenting database of astronomical images, with functions of search and download, is being developed by Korean Astronomical Data Center(KADC) of Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute(KASI). The system consists of three PCs for web server, database server, and system management server. The search program for the web environment is operated in the web server. In the management server, several utility program we developed are installed: input program for the database, program for transfer from fits to jpg files, program for data recovery and management, and programs for statistics and connect management. The collected data would be sorted out by the system manager to input into the database. The online input is possible in an observatory where the data is produced. We applied the content management system(CMS) module for the database management. On the basic of CMS module, we set up a management system for the whole life cycle of metadata from creation and collection to storage and deletion of the data. For the search function, we employed a technique to extract indices from the metadata. In addition, MySQL is adopted for DBMS. We currently display about 2,700 and 25,000 photographs for astronomical phenomena and astronomical objects on the data, respectively.

  • This research focuses on the cadastre and cartographic tradition regarding the representation of Rome that had lasted until the middle of 18th Century. Since the early period of Roman Republic until the early 18th Century, map was considered as a effective medium to record the status of urban facts and also a manifestation of changing perception of reality. These facts allow to diagnose social and conventional changes that had occurred in the field of representation techniques and methodologies derived from diverse intention and objective in elaboration of each map. Cartography also has affinity to architectural drawing as many categories of individuals are involved, clients, researchers, craftsmen, publisher and collectors. Fundamental task of documenting the contemporary physical reality was given to the map, however, as architects had practiced through the drawings, cartographers also reconstruct in subjective way specific buildings and urban aspects according to various needs and demands. As such, philology and imagination play important role as two constitute extreme poles in the evolution of the cadastre. Through analysis of paradigmatic examples in the genealogy of cartography of Rome, it was possible to understand the changing episteme that testify the mentality and custom in the field of visual representation.

  • In this paper, a study on automation method for the circuit/EM (Electro-Magnetic) simulation is carried out to analyze effectively the SI/PI (Signal Integrity/Power Integrity) issues which occur on circuits and/or PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards). For the automation of the circuit/EM simulation, algorithms performing each process of the SI/PI analysis automatically (such as ports setup, circuit definition and SI/PI evaluation) are developed; thereby automation system for the SI/PI analysis is constructed with the algorithms. The automation of the circuit/EM simulation is accomplished in the environment of the C/S (Client/Server) architecture in order to reduce resources such as high cost computers demanded for the SI/PI analysis. The automation method for the SI/PI analyses proposed in this paper reduces effort, time, and cost spent on the environment setup for simulation and the SI/PI analysis process. In addition, the proposed method includes automation of the documenting process, which organizes, records and displays the SI/PI analysis results automatically for users.

  • Purpose: By carrying out a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials that compared sorafenib or combined chemotherapy with placebo or combined chemotherapy, the effectiveness of sorafenib in hepatocellular carcinoma was evaluated in the present study, which also provided clinical practice guidelines of evidence-based-medicine. Methods: We reviewed PubMed citations concerning sorafenib treating hepatocellular carcinoma in randomized controlled trials from Jan 2000 to July 2012. All the literature was extracted by Cochrane systematic reviews and underwent meta-analysis with RewMan 5.0 software. Results: Finally, four papers documenting randomized controlled studies were included. Compared with controls, sorafenib was shown to significantly increase overall survival (OS), time to progression (TTP), and disease control rates (DCR), but not the time to symptom progression (TTSP) in hepatocellular carcinoma patients. The incidence of grade-III/IV adverse reactions, including hand-foot-skin reactions, diarrhea, hypertension and skin rash or desquamation, in sorafenib treatment group was higher than that in controls. However, there was no significant difference in the incidence of hypodynamia between the two groups. Conclusions: Sorafenib exerts significant curative effects in hepatocellular carcinoma.

  • Five plotting positions are applied to the computation of probability weighted moments (PWM) on the parameters of the generalized logistic distribution. Over a range of parameter values with some finite sample sizes, the effects of five plotting positions are investigated via Monte Carlo simulation studies. Our simulation results indicate that the Landwehr plotting position frequently tends to document smaller biases than others in the location and scale parameter estimations. On the other hand, the Weibull plotting position often tends to cause larger biases than others. The plotting position (i - 0.35)/n seems to report smaller root mean square errors (RMSE) than other plotting positions in the negative shape parameter estimation under small samples. In comparison to the maximum likelihood (ML) method under the small sample, the PWM do not seem to be better than the ML estimators in the location and scale parameter estimations documenting larger RMSE. However, the PWM outperform the ML estimators in the shape parameter estimation when its magnitude is near zero. Sensitivity of right tail quantile estimation regarding five plotting positions is also examined, but superiority or inferiority of any plotting position is not observed.

  • Background: Vstibular evoked myogenic potentials(VEMP) have been known to be useful documenting abnormality in patients with various vestibular disorders and brainstem lesions but the studies of VEMP in patients with hemispheric lesions are rare. Methods: We recorded VEMP in 21 consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke in the supratentorial lesions without evidence of brainstem or vestibular end organ lesions. All patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging and the main outcome measures of VEMP were recorded in all subjects. We interpreted each parameters of VEMP using our normal laboratory data. Results: VEMP abnormalities(prolonged latency or asymmetry of amplitude) were found in 57%(12/21) of acute infarction patients with supratentorial lesions. Bilateral VEMP abnormalities were found in six patients and unilateral abnormalities were found in another six patients with ipsilateral abnormalities in the three and controlateral abnormalities in the three patients. Conclusions: VEMP abnormalities were found in supratentorial stroke patients in our studies and this findings suggest supranuclear control may affect the generation of VEMP potentials.

  • To assure quality of safety critical software, software should be developed in accordance with software development procedures and rigorous software verification and validation should be performed. Software verification is the formal act of reviewing, testing or checking, and documenting whether software components comply with the specified requirements for a particular stage of the development phase [1]. New software verification methodology was developed and was applied to the Shutdown System No. 1 and 2(SDS1,2) for Wolsong 2, 3 and 4 nuclear power plants by Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI) and Atomic Energy of Canada Limited(AECL) in order to satisfy new regulation requirements of Atomic Energy Control Board(AECB). Software verification methodology applied to SDS1 for Wolsong 2, 3 and 4 project will be described in this paper. Some errors were found by this methodology during the software development for SDS1 and were corrected by software designer. Output from Wolsong 2, 3 and 4 project have demonstrated that the use of this methodology results in a high quality, cost-effective product.
