  • This paper presents our study of throughput enhancement achieved by selection diversity in a multiuser system, called multiuser diversity (MUDiv), using a new asymptotic approach. The MUDiv gain is evaluated by deriving an asymptotic formula for the throughput enhancement from the MUDiv gain as a simple closed form introducing a Puiseux series. The formula shows that the MUDiv gain is independent of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). This concept can be extended to analysis applicable to scheduling algorithms, such as Max C/I and proportional fair scheduling. The MUDiv gain throughput analysis is verified using Monte-Carlo simulations.

  • The transmit diversity as well as beamforming can increase the performance of wireless communication systems. It is well known that the requirement for the spacing between the neighboring antennas in transmit diversity and beamforming is contradictive to each other. Therefore it is necessary to find the optimum configuration of multiple antennas for getting the maximum performance under the condition that the total number of antennas at transmitter site and the total power of transmitter are fixed. In this paper, the procedure for finding the optimum configuration of multiple antennas was derived through searching the maximum capacity and BER in the combined system with the transmit diversity (Tx diversity) and beamforming.

  • Diversity antenna system against multi-fading environment is strongly required for WiBro service of vehicle. In general, high isolation performance between antennas leads to good diversity gain. In this paper, a polarization diversity antenna is presented, which has orthogonal polarizations and good isolation characteristic. In addition, by simulation and measurement, it is certified that HWLLA (Half Wave Length Loaded Antenna) improves polarization purity on common ground. In isolation between two antennas, HWLLA can provide better isolation over 12dB than conventional PIFA (Planar Inverted F Antenna).

  • Diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) is an efficient tool to measure the performance of multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) systems and cooperative systems. Recently, cooperative multicast system with wireless network coding stretched tremendous interesting due to that it can drastically enhance the throughput of the wireless networks. It is desirable to apply DMT to the performance analysis on the multicast system with wireless network coding. In this paper, DMT is performed at the three proposed wireless network coding protocols, i.e., non-regenerative network coding (NRNC), regenerative complex field network coding (RCNC) and regenerative Galois field network coding (RGNC). The DMT analysis shows that under the same system performance, i.e., the same diversity gain, all the three network coding protocols outperform the traditional transmission scheme without network coding in terms of multiplexing gain. Our DMT analysis also exhibits the trends of the three network coding protocols' performance when multiplexing gain is changing from the lower region to the higher region. Monte-Carlo simulations verify the prediction of DMT.

  • In this paper, we propose a new joint precoder and postcoder design strategy to support multiple streams per user in multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. We propose two step precoding strategies using equal channel gain decomposition and block diagonalization at the transmitter. With the proposed precoder, the multiuser MIMO channel can be decomposed into multiple parallel channels with equal channel gain per user. After applying receive postcoder which is generated and sent by the transmitter, we can use ML based decoder per stream to achieve full receive diversity. Achievable sum rate bound and diversity performance of the proposed algorithm are presented with feedback signaling design and quantitative complexity analysis. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm asymptotically approaches to the sum rate capacity of the MIMO broadcast channel while maintaining full diversity order.

  • We investigate BER (Bit Error Ratio) performance according to the gain of spatial and frequency diversities in uplink SC-FDMA of SIMO (Single Input Multiple Output) systems. The main results of the analysis in this paper are as follows. First, we prove that performance of integrated system for considering spatial and frequency diversity combining in parallel is equivalent with the performance of sequential system for performing diversity combining in sequence. By signal modeling, it is demonstrated that the performances of both systems are the same when the frequency diversity combining technique of the sequential system is equal to diversity combining technique of the integrated system, and spatial diversity combining technique of the sequential system is performed as MRC in advance of frequency diversity combining. Secondly, it is found that effect on the BER performance is different according to the gain of spatial and frequency diversities, respectively. The frequency diversity gain increases by increasing the number of subcarrier. It might affect the performance improvement of high SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) while it maintains gap between performances of ZF(Zero Forcing) and MMSE(Minimum Mean Square Error) in frequency diversity combining schemes. Also, spatial diversity gain increases as the number of receiving antennas increases. It means that it can reduce performance gap between ZF and MMSE in frequency diversity combining schemes by increasing the number of receiving antennas. In addition, it might affect the performance improvement of the whole SNR. Finally, through the analysis of performance according to the spatial diversity gain, the performance of ZF in frequency diversity combining is equal to the MMSE if the number of receiving antennas is 6 or more.

  • In this paper, we derive the gain of network coding when it is utilized for retransmission in wireless networks. To the end, we derive the outage probability of the network-coded transmission and express the diversity order as a function of the number of nodes and the node's listening probability. From the outage probability, we formulate the ${\epsilon}$-outage capacity. The network-coding gain is the ratio of the ${\epsilon}$-outage capacities between network-coded and non-coded transmissions. Under our system model, we find that the network-coding gain is a function of the diversity order. Moreover, when there are infinitely many nodes, we show that the network coding gain approaches $0.25{\epsilon}^{-1}$.

  • Two-way relaying scheme based on relay selection can not only achieve higher rate but also get the selection diversity gain according to the number of relays. However the scheme can not achieve combining gain because it does not consider the direct link between users. In this paper, we propose, with multiple relays, opportunistic cooperative two-way relaying scheme and incremental cooperative two-way relaying scheme which can achieve both selection diversity gain and combining gain. Simulation results show that proposed scheme outperform the conventional scheme by achieving both combining gain and selection diversity gain according to the number of relays.

  • Reception performance in land mobile satellite is decreased by obstacle. It is compensated with Diversity technique. In this paper, performances are analyzed with two type of method Equal Gain Combining(EGC) and Selcetive Combining(SC). To analyze, measured data using On-The-Move(OTM) terminal are used. In conclusion, SC method can increase performance. However, EGC method can improve perforamance only in rural region, but performance are decreased in urban region.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the DS/CDMA System with Hybrid SC/MRC diversity, as a method to achieve a good performance by reducing the complexity of system, when PLL gain value was revised a phase gulf among branches to make perfect coherent receive signal. The channel is a multipath Nakagami-m fading channel, we consider user(K), processor gain(N), number of paths(Lp) in DS/CDMA system with hybrid SC/MRC diversity. We found that PLL gain values exist to make perfect coherent receive signal. We verified that DS/CDMA system with Hybrid SC/MRC diversity can improve performance when the proper PLL gain values is used in the system. As a result, we verified that the upper limit of PLL gain value is 5dB to make perfect coherent receive signal in the DS/CDMA system with hybrid SC/MRC diversity.
