Analysis of Ginseng Saponins by HPLC with Photoreduction Fluorescence Detection

  • A new high performance liquid chromatographic procedure is described for the analysis of ginseng saponins. Ginseng saponins were separated on Lichrosorb $NH_2$ column and anthraquinone-2, 6-disulfonate (AQDS) solution was added to the column effluent. The effluent was passed through 1.5m-PTFE capillary coiled around 10 W-UV lamp to reduce AQDS to highly fluorescent 9. 10-dihydroxyanthracene-2, 6-disulfonate which was detected by fluorescence detector. The detection limit for the ginsenoside $Rg_1$ by this method was found to be about 350 ng, the dynamic linear range was $10^2$ and the correlation coefficient of the calibration curve was 0.9999.

Preferential Intercalation of Organic Anions into Layered Double Hydroxide

  • Intercalation compounds of organic anions into layered double hydroxides (LDH) are synthesized by the coprecipitation route. X-ray diffraction data reveal that the intercalated terephthalate (TP), naphthalene-2,6-disulfonate (NA26), and anthraquinone-2,6-disulfonate (AQ26) are arranged with their molecular planes perpendicular to the hydroxide layer. HPLC data show that 26.2% of TP and 73.8% of AQ26 are cointercalated, whereas NA26 is not intercalated into the Zn/Al-LDH. These results indicate the possibility of a molecular recognition ability of Zn/Al-LDH. The molecular recognition ability of intercalation into Zn/Al-LDH is in the order AQ26 > TP >> NA26.

Inhibitory Effect of Nitrate on Fe(III) and Humic acid reduction in Shewanella putrefaciens DK-1

  • The inhibitory effects of nitrate on Fe(III) and humic acid reduction were examined in Shewanella putrefaciens DK-1. Therer is no difference in Fe(III) reduction until 25 hours between cultures using Fe(III) production was decreased drastically when Fe(III) and nitrate were used as electron acceptors. The production of AHQDS(2,6-anthrahydroquinon disulfonate) showed similar patterns when AQDS alone and both AQDS and Fe(III) were used as electron acceptors. When AQDS(2,6-anthraquinon disulfonate) and nitrate were used as electron acceptors, the production of AHQDS was completely inhibited.

Synthesis, Characterization and Magnetic Properties of a Novel Disulfonate-pillared Copper Hydroxide Cu2(OH)3(DS4)1/2, DS4 = 1,4-Butanedisulfonate

  • We report the preparation, structure and magnetic properties of a new pillared complex, copper(II) hydroxy-1,4-butanedisulfonate, $Cu_2(OH)_3(O_3SC_4H_8SO_3)_{1/2}$. The titled compound was obtained by anion exchange, using copper hydroxyl nitrate $(Cu_2(OH)_3NO_3)$ as the starting material. According to the XRD data, this compound exhibits a pillared layered structure with organic layers tilted between the copper hydroxide layers with a tilt angle of $21.8^{\circ}$. FTIR spectroscopy confirms total exchange of nitrate by the sulfonate and indicates that the sulfonate functions are linked to the copper(II) ions with each aliphatic chain bridging the adjacent hydroxide layers. According to the dc and ac magnetic measurements, the title compound is a metamagnet consisting of spin-canted antiferromagnetic layers, with a Neel temperature of 11.8 K.

Synthesis and Performance Evaluation of Linear Polycarboxylate Dispersant of Glacial Acrylic Acid - Maleic Acid- Sodium Methallyl Disulfonate for Ceramics

  • Using aqueous solution free radical polymerization with glacial acrylic acid (GAA), maleic anhydride (MA) and sodium methallyl disulfonate (SMADS), a novel linear polycarboxylate dispersant was synthesized for ceramics. Dispersant linear structural characterization was done by FTIR, $^1H$ NMR, HPLC and GPC, and the ratio of monomers was determined using an orthogonal experiment. This research is focused on the effects of polymerization temperature, monomer mole ratios and dosage of initiator on ceramic slurry viscosity with linear polycarboxylate dispersant for ceramic dosage rate of 0.30% (based on dry slurry), all of which were investigated by single factor test. The best polymerization conditions for linear GAA-MA-SMADS are when n(AA) : n(MA) : n(SMADS) equals 3.0 : 1.0 : 0.5, the molecular weight of the polymer is 4600 daltons, the initiator sodium persulfate accounts for 7% of the total mass of polymerized monomers, the polymerization temperature is $90^{\circ}C$ and the reaction time is 2 h. The ceramic body slurry viscosity drops from $820mPa{\cdot}s$ to $46mPa{\cdot}s$ when the concentration of the polycarboxylate dispersant is 0.30%.

G2NDS 호스트의 선택적 내포 현상을 이용한 Dibromobenzene 이성질체의 분자분리 (Molecular Separation of Dibromobenzene Isomers by using Selective Guest Inclusion of G2NDS Host Framework)

  • 본 연구에서는 $G_2$[naphthalene disulfonate] 숙주 분자(host molecule)의 선택적 내포현상을 이용하여 구조적 이성질체인 1,2-dibromobenzene과 1,3-dibromobenzene을 분리하였다. 혼합 이성질체 용액에서 $X_{1,3-DBB}=0.3$ 이상 일 때, 숙주 분자는 1,3-dibromobenzene 손님 분자(guest molecule)에 대해 내포 선택도가 높았으나, $X_{1,3-DBB}=0.2$ 이하의 용액에서는 1,2-dibromobenzene 손님 분자에 대한 내포 선택도가 높았다. 이것은 용액의 조성에 따라 특정 이성질체가 숙주 분자 구조의 주형 역할을 하여 해당 분자에 대한 손님 분자로서의 내포 선택도를 결정하기 때문이다. 이러한 숙주 분자 구조에 대한 손님 분자의 주형 역할은 순수 이성질체 용액 및 혼합 이성질체 용액에서 생성된 내포 화합물의 X-ray 회절 분석 결과로부터 확인할 수 있었다. 한편, 열시차분석(DSC)에서 (1,3-dibromobenzene)-내포 화합물이(1,2-dibromobenzene)-내포 화합물 보다 안정하여 손님 분자를 숙주 분자로부터 유리시키는 더 많은 에너지를 요구하였다. 이러한 열적 안정성은 $G_2$[naphthalene disulfonate] 숙주 분자가 더 넓은 농도 범위에서 1,3- dibromobenzene에 대해 선택도를 갖는 것과 부합하는 결과이다. 본 연구에서는 숙주 분자의 선택도와 내포 화합물의 열적 안정성과의 관련성을 도출해 냈으며, 열적 안정도 평가가 숙주분자의 선택적 내포 현상을 예측할 수 있는 수단으로 적용될 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.

Effects of Extracellular Electron Shuttles on Microbial Iron Reduction and Heavy Metals Release from Contaminated Soils

  • To test the potential effects of extracellular electron shuttles (EES) on the rate and extent of heavy metal release from contaminated soils during microbial iron reduction, we created anaerobic batch systems with anthraquinone-2,6-disulfonate (AQDS) as a surrogate of EES, and with contaminated soils as mixed iron (hydr)oxides and microbial sources. Two types of soils were tested: Zn-contaminated soil A and As/Pb-contaminated soil B. In soil A, the rate of iron reduction was fastest in the presence of AQDS and > 3500 mg/L of total Fe(II) was produced within 2 d. This suggests that indigenous microorganisms can utilize AQDS as EES to stimulate iron reduction. In the incubations with soil B, the rate and extent of iron reduction did not increase in the presence of AQDS likely because of the low pH (< 5.5). In addition, less than 2000 mg/L of total Fe(II) was produced in soil B within 52 d suggesting that iron reduction by subsurface microorganisms in soil B was not as effective as that in soil A. Relatively high amount of As (~500 mg/L) was released to the aqueous phase during microbial iron reduction in soil B. The release of As might be due to the reduction of As-associated iron (hydr)oxides and/or direct enzymatic reduction of As(V) to As(III) by As-reducing microorganisms. However, given that Pb in liquid phase was < 0.3 mg/L for the entire experiment, the microbial reduction As(V) to As(III) by As-reducing microorganisms has most likely occurred in this system. This study suggests that heavy metal release from contaminated soils can be strongly controlled by subsurface microorganisms, soil pH, presence of EES, and/or nature of heavy metals.

The Synthesis and Properties of Asymmetrically Substituted 4,4'-Bis(1,3,5-triazine-6-yl)diaminostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic Acid Derivatives as Fluorescent Brighteners [II]

  • In this work, the key intermediate, 4-amino-4'-(2-amino-4-anilino-1,3,5-triazine-6-yl)-aminostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid, was prepared from 4-(2-amino-4-anilino-1,3,5-triazine-6-yl)amino-4'-nitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonate by using Tin(II) chloride as the reducing agent. Using this intermediate, nineteen new asymmetrically substituted bistriazinylstilbene fluorescent brightening agents were synthesized. Chemical structures of the obtained compounds 5a-s were analyzed by proton NMR spectrum. The physical properties of the new compounds 5a-s were characterized by fastness test and whiteness measurement test and the obtained data were compared to measurements obtained from CI 86.

  • $^1H$$^{13}C$ 핵자기(核磁氣) 공오(共嗚) 분광기(分光器), 적외선(赤外線) 흡광(吸光) 분광기(分光器)와 질량분석기(質量分析器)를 이용(利用)하여 설폰화(化) 반응(反應)의 한 반응물(反應物)이 단리(單離)되어 구조적(構造的)으로 규명(糾明)되었다. 그 화합물(化合物)은 에탄올 및 에탄올 수용액(水溶液)을 용매(容媒)로 사용(使用)하여 Sephadex LH-20상(上)에서의 반복적(反復的)인 컬럼 크로마토그래피로 단리 및 정제(精製)되었다. 규명된 화합물은 이전에 보고(報告)된 바 없는 새로운 구조의 disodium epicatechin-(4${\beta}$, 5')-disulfonate였다. 이 화합물은 온화(溫和)한 설폰화(化) 조건하(條件下)에서 최초(最初)의 친전자(親電子) 치환(置換)의 예(例)로서 catechol B 환구조(環構造)가 quinone methide 중간물(中間物)을 생성(生成)하는 한 반응기구(反應機構)가 제시(提示)되었다.

계면활성제가 수리전도도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Sodium Oxide Disulfonate Surfactant on Hydraulic Conductivity in a Soil)

  • 계면활성제를 이용하여 토양에 존재하는 유기 오염물질을 제거하는데 있어서, 계면활성제가 토양과의 상호작용시 투수계수를 상당히 ($10^2$ 이상) 감소시키면 이 복원방법은 실용성이 없다 그러므로 본 연구의 목적은 선택된 계면활성제와 투수계수 사이의 상관 관계를 고찰하는데 있다. 본 연구 결과 계면활성제(DOSL) 사용 후 증류수와의 상대적 비교치로써 투수계수는 21~35 % 감소하였다. 이 감소 수치의 의미는 선택된 계면활성제(DOSL)는 토양 복원 연구에 사용될 수 있음을 보여준다.
