Patients with hemiplegia usually show different body weight distribution as compared with normal subjects. Asymmetrical posture during static stance has been identified as a common problem in patients with hemiplegia. The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of vision and visual feedback on body weight distribution while standing under three conditions: eyes-closed, eyes-open and visual feedback condition. Fourteen patients with hemiplegia participated in the study. Their body weight distribution during standing for 20 seconds was measured by Limloader. The data were analysed by repeated measure of one-way ANOVA. The weight bearing on the paretic limb in the eyes-open condition was significantly higher than that of the eyes-closed condition. The weight bearing on the parietic limb in the visual feedback condition was significantly higher than that of the eyes-open condition. These results suggest that patients with hemiplegia can improve their symmetrical stance ability using visual feedback.

To take advantage of electric propulsion, several large vessel kinds, namely, cruise vessels, icebreakers, drill ships, and warships, have been generally designed with Integrated Power System (IPS). Although most of these vessels have adopted AC distribution IPS, DC distribution IPS ships have recently emerged as a new promising technology thanks to the availability of the products related to the DC distribution system, in which the system's major advantages over AC distribution are reduced weight and fuel consumption. This paper presents the comparison results of a 10-t class fishing boat for the AC distribution and DC distribution cases. By replacing AC distribution system with DC distribution, 31-41% reduction in the weight of the electrical equipment weight and 20-25% reduction in the fuel consumption are expected.
The patients with hemiplegia show different body weight distribution as compared to normal subjects. These patients load their body weight more on sound leg than affected leg. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of foot placement under three conditions: forward, intermediate, and backward placement, on body weight distribution and time needed to rise while assuming sit-to-stand. Fourteen patients with hemiplegia participated in the study. Their body weight distributions during sit-to-stand under the three different conditions were measured by a limb loader and time needed to rise was measured by a stopwatch. The data were analysed by the repeated measure of one-way ANOVA. Statistical Analysis demonstrated that body weight distribution was less asymmetric in backward foot placement. The difference of body weight bearing rate between sound leg and affected leg was significantly decreased as foot placement moved from forward to backward. These results show that backward foot placement during sit-to-stand make patient with henuplegia distribute their body weight more evenly on the lower extremity.

In this paper, we investigate and analyze weight distribution of feed forward two-layer neural networks with a hidden layer in order to understand and improve time-consuming training process of neural networks. Generally, when a new problem is presented, neural networks have to be trained again without any benefit from the previous training process. In order to address this problem, training process is viewed as finding a solution point in the weight space and the distribution of solution points is analyzed. Then we propose to initialize neural networks using the information of the distribution of the solution points. Experimental results show that the proposed initialization using the weight distribution provides a better performance than the conventional one.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of visual conditions on the static balance of stable and unstable surfaces. Thirty healthy adults participated in this study (13 men, 17 women). Visual conditions were set as vertical, horizontal, and diagonal. It was performed on the pad to measure the balance on the unstable support surface. Using the balance measuring instrument, the General Stability Index, Weight Distribution Index, and Weight Distribution was measured. Paired t-tests were used for ground-based comparisons and one-way ANOVAs were used for comparisons within the same ground. The general stability index showed a significant difference according to the horizontal and vertical line directions on the stable support surface(p<.05). According to the comparison between the grounds, the weight distribution index on the unstable support surface showed a significant difference(p<.05). Weight distribution showed significant differences between the left and right eyes on the support surface with the stable and the unstable horizontal visual condition(p<.05). In static balance training, vertical and diagonal visual direction conditions are predicted to be helpful for training.
Fibrous cellulose triacetate prepared from purified cotton under various temperatures was dissolved in the solution of 70%, monochloroacetic acid and it was fractionated using water as a precipitant. Eight fractions were obtained through the stepwise precipitation. Degree of polymerization and molecular weight of each fraction were measured viscometrically. Integral and differential molecular weight distribution curve were drawn for each sample prepared under various temperatures and were carefully observed. On this experimental study, following conclusions were obtained: Fractional precipitation can be carried out for fibrous cellulose triacetate in the solution of 70% monochloroacetic acid using water as a precipitant. The differences on the shapes of molecular weight distribution curve were occured on account of the various acetylation temperatures. At the relatively higher acetylation temperatures, the cellulose was randomly degraded and the portion of low degree of polymerization was increased. Commercial acetate, therefore, may not be prepared at above 40$^{\circ}C$ according to the molecular weight distribution curve regardless of higher viscosity and average degree of polymerization. It was concluded that the optimum acetylation temperature for commercial acetate was approximately 30$^{\circ}C$.
Distribution of tracer particles in carrier conform to Poisson distribution and the effect of Poisson distribution on mixing uniformity can be reduced by increasing the tracer particle number per unit weight. In this paper, above-mentioned theory has been demonstrated by using three kinds of rotor whose pitches are different.

PURPOSE: This study intended to verify whether there was actual correlation between weight-bearing asymmetry and a limitation in hip joint rotation range in patients with low back pain. METHODS: Thirty five low back pain patients voluntarily participated this study. For each participant, hip joint medial rotation symmetry rate and the weight-bearing symmetry rate were calculated. The correlation between the two variables was investigated. RESULTS: A decrease in the left hip joint medial rotation range of motion (ROM) was observed more often than a reduction in the right hip joint medial rotation ROM. However, similar number between right and left side was observed in ground reaction force more weighted. The coefficient between the passive hip joint medial rotation symmetry rate and the weight loading symmetry ratio was -0.19 (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The present study demonstrated a weak correlation between the hip joint medial rotation ROM and the weight distribution of both feet. Such result suggests that careful evaluation by separating each element is needed in treating patients with low back pain. Future research should take into account asymmetric alignment and abnormal movement in different joints of the body as well as asymmetry in the bilateral hip joint rotation and the unilateral weight supporting posture.
The effects of fibron solubilization conditions on molecular weight distribution of enzymatically-hydrolyzed silk peptides were investigated. The weight-averaged molecular weights of silk proteins prepared by solubilization with calcium chloride, ethylenediamine and sulfuric acid were 41600, 3308, and 1268 dalton, respectively. Silk peptides in the average molecular weight range of 600-1200 dalton were obtained by protease treatment from solubilized silk fibroin. After the acid hydrolysis of silk protein using hydrochloric acid for 24 hr, silk protein was hydrolyzed to peptides whose average molecular weight and free amino acid content were 145 dalton and 80%, respectively. It was possible to control molecular weight distribution of silk peptides by the combination of solubilization and hydrolysis methods. Among the various treatment methods, acid solubilization followed by protease treatment had an advantage of molecular weight control for the peptide production.
Collagen, which accounts for one-third of human protein, is reduced due to human aging, and much attention is focused on making collagen into food to prevent such aging. Gel permeation chromatography with Reflective Index (RI) detection (GPC/RI) was chosen as the most suitable instrument to confirm molecular weight distribution, and we explored the use of this technique for analysis of collagen peptide molecular sizes and distributions. Data reliability was verified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization coupled to time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometric analysis. The data were considered meaningful for comparative analysis of molecular weight distribution patterns.
