A distribution systems loss minimum reconfiguration method by simulated annealing is proposed. The problem is a complex mixed integer programming problem and is very difficult to solve by a mathematical programming approach. Simulated annealing generates feasible solutions randomly and moves among these solutions using a strategy leading to a global minimum with high probabilities. The solution algorithm has been implemented in developed software package and tested on 32-bus system.
Severe natural disasters and man-made attacks such as terrorism are causing unprecedented disruptions in power systems. Due to rapid climate change and the aging of energy infrastructure, both the frequency of failure and the level of damage are expected to increase. Resilience is a concept proposed to respond to extreme disaster events that have a low probability of occurrence but cause enormous damage and is defined as the ability of a system to recover to its original function after a disaster. Resilience is a comprehensive indicator that can include system performance before and after a disaster and focuses on preparing for all possible disaster scenarios and having quick and efficient recovery actions after an incident. Various studies have been conducted to evaluate resilience, but studies on economic damage considering the duration of a power outage are scarce. In this study, we propose an optimal algorithm that can identify failures after an extreme disaster and restore the load on the distribution system through emergency distributed power generation input and system reconfiguration. After that, the cost of power outage damage is analyzed by applying VoLL and CDF according to each restoration strategy.
In this paper, we applied a chaos search method for feeder reconfiguration problem in unbalanced distribution system. Chaos method, in optimization problem, searches the global optimal solution on the regularity of chaotic motions and more easily escapes from local or near optimal solution than stochastic optimization algorithms. The chaos search method applied to the IEEE 13 unbalanced test feeder systems, and the test results indicate that it is able to determine appropriate switching options for global optimum configuration.
The optimal operation in distribution system is to select tie switches considering important elements(Load balance, Loss minimization, Voltage drop, Restoration index..) in distribution system. Optimal Tie Switches Selection is very important in operation of distribution system because that is closely related with efficiency and reliability. In this paper, a new algorithm considering important elements is proposed to find optimal location of tie switches. In the case study, the proposed algorithm has been testified using real distribution network of KEPCO for verifying algorithm and complex network for applying future distribution network.

A fully-integrated penta-band reconfigurable power amplifier (PA) is developed for handset Tx applications. The output structure of the proposed PA is composed of the fixed output matching network, power and frequency reconfigurable networks, and post-PA distribution switches. In this work, a new reconfiguration technique is proposed for a specific band requiring power and frequency reconfiguration simultaneously. The design parameters for the proposed reconfiguration are newly derived and applied to the PA. To reduce the module size, the switches of reconfigurable output networks and post-PA switches are integrated into a single IC using a $0.18{\mu}m$ silicon-on-insulator CMOS process, and a compact size of $5mm{\times}5mm$ is thus achieved. The fabricated W-CDMA PA module shows adjacent channel leakage ratios better than -39 dBc up to the rated linear power and power-added efficiencies of higher than around 38% at the maximum linear output power over all the bands. Efficiency degradation is limited to 2.5% to 3% compared to the single-band reference PA.
This paper presents an application of a newly designed Adaptive Genetic Algorithm (AGA) to solve the Optimal Feeder Routing (OFR) problem for distribution system planning. The main objective of the OFR problem usually is to minimize the total cost that is the sum of investment costs and system operation costs. We propose a properly designed AGA, in this paper, which can handle the horizon-year expansion planning problem of power distribution network in which the location of substation candidates, the location and amount of forecasted demands are given. In the proposed AGA, we applied adaptive operators using specially designed adaptive probabilities. we also a Simplified Load Flow (SLF) technique for radial networks to improve a searching efficiency of AGA. The proposed algorithm has been evaluated with the practical 32, 69 bus test system to show favorable performance. It is also shown that the proposed method for the OFR can also be used for the network reconfiguration problem in distribution system.
Distribution system is a critical link between customer and utility. The control of power loss is the main factor which decides the performance of the distribution system. There are two methods such as (i) distribution system reconfiguration and (ii) inclusion of capacitor banks, used for controlling the real power loss. Considering the improvement in voltage profile with the power loss reduction, later method produces better performance than former method. This paper presents an advanced evolutionary algorithm for capacitor inclusion for loss reduction. The conventional sensitivity analysis is used to find the optimal location for the capacitors. In order to achieve a better approximation for the current candidate solution, Opposition based Differential Evolution (ODE) is introduced. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is validated through 10, 33, 34 and85-bus radial distribution systems.

This paper presents the various application programs for the Distribution Automation System (DAS) of the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO)'s distribution system. These programs are developed to allow for optimal operation in the areas of feeder automation, relay coordination, loss minimization and so on. They are single line diagram auto creation programs for the feeder, service restoration program, protection coordination program, data error detection program, and optimal network reconfiguration program. The details of these programs are presented for validity and effectiveness.
In this paper, we focused on the loop distribution system to solve the international issues of energy depletion and global warming. The conventional method of reconfiguration of distribution system was moving open points of switches from an actual switch position to another, while an appropriate switch must be opened to preserve the radial structure and this procedure is continued til there is no further loss reduction. However, the loop distribution system is the best optimization method to minimize loss than the other methods which is preserving radial structure. So we analyzed 3 types of loop distribution system upgraded from radial distribution system by changing normally open switch to normally closed switch. The simple 3 types of model system for simulation were composed, and each types of loop system were simulated in accordance with varying parameters. As a result of simulations, the loss reduction was different for each types of loop distribution system and each loop types have constraints for composing loop distribution system. The algorithms propose the method how to construct loop distribution system regarding constraints. Type I that needs least requirements get least loss reduction and Type III that needs most requirements get maximum loss reduction. On the other hand, Type I was most feasible distribution system to be realized.
This paper presents an efficient algorithm for the loss minimization of distribution system by automatic sectionalizing switch operation in large scale distribution systems. Simulated annealing is particularly well suited for large combinational optimization problem, but the use of this algorithm is also responsible for an excessive computation time requirement. Tabu search attempts to determine a better solution in the manner of a greatest-descent algorithm, but it can not give any guarantee for the convergence property. The hybrid algorithm of two methods with two tabu lists and the proposed perturbation mechanism is applied to improve the computation time and convergence property Numerical examples demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed methodology using a KEPCO's distribution system.
