  • We define a multivariate Cauchy distribution using a probability density function; subsequently, a Ferguson's definition of a multivariate Cauchy distribution can be viewed as a characterization theorem using the characteristic function approach. To clarify this characterization theorem, we construct two dependent Cauchy random variables, but their sum is not Cauchy distributed. In doing so the proofs depend on the characteristic function, but we use the cumulative distribution function to obtain the exact density of their sum. The derivation methods are relatively straightforward and appropriate for graduate level statistics theory courses.

  • Kullback-Leibler (KL) information is a measure of discrepancy between two probability density functions. However, several nonparametric density function estimators have been considered in estimating KL information because KL information is not well-defined on the empirical distribution function. In this paper, we consider the KL information of the equilibrium distribution function, which is well defined on the empirical distribution function (EDF), and propose an EDF-based goodness of fit test statistic. We evaluate the performance of the proposed test statistic for an exponential distribution with Monte Carlo simulation. We also extend the discussion to the censored case.

  • In this paper, we have made a proposal concerning the beam shaping mask(BSM) using random-array slits to control intensity distribution profile of laser beam and demonstrated its proprieties experimentally. When a lot of slits are set out irregularly, diffraction patterns of light does not appear but granularity patterns as a bundle of fibers appear. Intensity distribution profile is controlled by densities distribution of circular slits arrayed randomly because the number of slits and its area means amount of light energy through BSM. Namely as the number of slits in high intensity area is increased and that in low intensity area decreased, amount of light energy is same over all local parts. So gaussian intensity distribution could be changed to flat-top.

  • Dispersed Generation (DG) units significantly effect the existing distribution protection practices. Therefore, new protection practices of the distribution system interconnected with DG units should be reevaluated and developed. In this paper, a new inter-tie protection scheme of DG units for distribution automatic reclosing is proposed. The impact of DG units on existing radial-sectionaliser coordination is analyzed. And the effects of the distribution reclosing type (radial and passive reclosing) on DG dynamics are analyzed and classified. From the results of the DG dynamic responses by the reclosing type, i.e. radial and passive reclosing, the inter-tie protection schemes of DG are introduced to improve the reliability and availability of utility interactive DG. The proposed schemes are proved and evaluated by a case study using PSCAD/EMTDC simulation.

  • The uneven distribution of rolling friction coefficient may lead to great uncertainty in the structural seismic isolation performance. This paper attempts to improve the isolation performance of a spring-damper-rolling isolation system by artificially making the uneven friction distribution to be concave. The rolling friction coefficient gradually increases when the isolator rolls away from the original position during an earthquake. After the spring-damper-rolling isolation system under different ground motions was calculated by a numerical analysis method, the system obtained more regular results than that of random uneven friction distributions. Results shows that the concave friction distribution can not only dissipate the earthquake energy, but also change the structural natural period. These functions improve the seismic isolation efficiency of the spring-damper-rolling isolation system in comparison with the random uneven distribution of rolling friction coefficient, and always lead to a relatively acceptable isolation state even if the actual earthquake significantly differs from the design earthquake.

  • In the existing distribution automation system, the database is managed by each distribution office. But there is a high possibility to happened a problem during a fault processing because the representation of the connection switches between distribution offices are complicated. In addition, if a distribution office will be going to collapse due to disaster, for example, a big fire or earthquake, its own database may be lost. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to have a structure of an integrated database management from an integration center to under the distribution office. To do this, the integration center must store and manage it as the database using the own office code.

  • Electroforming is the highly specialized use of electrodeposition for the manufacture of metal parts and basically a specialized form of electroplating. So, we can apply electrochemical system analysis for electroforming process. Electrochemical systems are concerned with the interplay between electricity and chemistry, namely the measurements of electrical quantities, such as current density, potential, and charge, and their relationship to chemical parameters. This paper based on the basic equations of electrics and electrochemical kinetics, was employed for a theoretical explanation of the current density distribution on electroforming process. We calculated current density distribution and potential distribution on cathode. Also, calculated current density distribution of vertical direction. It was shown that current density is related with distance of between anode and cathode and mass transfer process.

  • This paper presents a reliability analysis of S-bonds for AF track circuits, which detect train movement and transmit a speed control signal to the train. Field survey shows that S-bonds are exposed to very large vibrations transferred from rail, and suffer from frequent failures when they were installed on ballasted track. We collected the time-to-failure data of S-bonds from the maintenance field of Seoul metro line 2, and made a parametric approach to estimate the statistical distribution that fits the time-to-failure data. The analysis shows that S-bonds have time-to-failure characteristics described by Weibull distribution. The estimated shape parameter of Weibull distribution is 1.1, which means the distribution has constant failure rate characteristics like exponential distribution. The reliability function, hazard function, percentiles and mean lifetime are derived for maintenance support.

  • The analysis method on air gap permeance distribution, air gap MMF distribution, air gap flux density distribution, cogging torque and BEMF about the skewed stator slots or the skewed rotor magnet segments for BLDCM, respectively, is studied as a function of the skew ratio. The proposed method describes the differences between the skewed stator slots and teh skewed rotor magnet segments for the air gap permeance distribution, air gap MMF distribution and air gap flux density distribution. The reliability of the method is also confirmed by the waveform of the cogging torque and BEMF through experiments. And the result shows that the effects on the cogging torque and BEMF due to the skewed stator slots or the skewed rotor magnet segments are the same. In case of the skewed stator slots, the effects of the variations of the winding resistance and inductance are also studied.

  • Electric power distribution feeders are susceptible to faults caused by a variety of situations such as adverse weather conditions, tree contacts, equipment failure, accidents, etc. Distribution circuit faults result in a number of problems related to the reliability of service and customer power quality. In the distribution line, the permanent interruption of customer service resulting from a blown fuse or a recloser lockout was the only factor which was used to determine service reliability. On underground distribution line, the serving of cables by earth-moving equipment is a prevalent cause of faults and the most cable faults quickly develop into bolted current. we introduce th multi-circuit breaker coordination methods in the Underground Distribution Line.
