  • The nuclear power Plant onsite AC electrical power sources are required to supply power to the engineering safety facility buses if the offsite power source is lost. Typically, Diesel Generators are used as the onsite power source. The 125 VAC buses are part of the onsite Class 1E AC and DC electrical power distribution system. The DC power distribution system ensure the availability of DC electrical power for system required to shutdown the reactor and maintain it in a safety condition after an anticipated operational occurrence or a postulated Design Base Accident. Recently, onsite DC power supply system trip occurs the loss of system function. To obtain the performance such as reliability and availability, we analyzed the cause of battery charger trip and described the improvement of DC power supply system reliability. Finally, we provide reliability performance criteria of charger in order to ensure the probabilistic goals for the safety of the nuclear power plants.

  • As the result of the study shows, Round Robin Algorithm allows servers to ensure definite traffic distribution, unless incoming data loads differ much. Although error levels are high in some cases, they were eventually alleviated by repeated tests for a long period of time. The study uses two software packages (Packet Capture and Round Robin Test Package) to check packet volume from Virtual Network Structure (data generator, virtual server, Server 1, 2, 3), and finds out traffic distribution toward Server 1, 2, and 3. The functions of implemented Round Robin Load Balancing Monitoring System include round robin testing, system monitoring, and graphical indication of data transmission and packet volume.

  • For the Change-point problem in a sequence of binomial variables we consider the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of unknown change-point. Its asymptotic distribution is quite limited in the case of binomial variables with different numver of trials at each time point. Hinkley and Hinkley (1970) gives an asymptotic distribution of the MLE for a sequence of Bernoulli random variables. To find the asymptotic distribution a numerical method such as bootstrap can be used. Another concern of our interest in the inference on the change-point and we derive confidence sets based on the liklihood ratio test(LRT). We find approximate confidence sets from the bootstrap distribution and compare the two results through an example.

  • The generalized linear mixed model(GLMM) is widely used in fitting categorical responses of clustered data. In the numerical approximation of likelihood function the normality is assumed for the random effects distribution; subsequently, the commercial statistical packages also routinely fit GLMM under this normality assumption. We may also encounter departures from the distributional assumption on the response variable. It would be interesting to investigate the impact on the estimates of parameters under misspecification of distributions; however, there has been limited researche on these topics. We study the sensitivity or robustness of the maximum likelihood estimators(MLEs) of GLMM for counts data when the true underlying distribution is normal, gamma, exponential, and a mixture of two normal distributions. We also consider the effects on the MLEs when we fit Poisson-normal GLMM whereas the outcomes are generated from the negative binomial distribution with overdispersion. Through a small scale Monte Carlo study we check the empirical coverage probabilities of parameters and biases of MLEs of GLMM.

  • is a service providing the story synopses that match user's query. This paper analyzes the user log of which is the answers to the queries to find stories from database, and shows the tendency distribution of user creation. Specially, we analyze a joint distribution of the genres and actions of stories to get better understanding of the tendencies that cannot be found in the analysis of independent distribution. Furthermore, we define a correlation factor between genre and action, and investigate what combinations of the genres and actions are highly, less, and negatively correlated. Finally, we investigate how the tendencies of characters are related to genres and actions, and propose a visualization method to show the tendencies.

  • We derive a factorization theorem for the jet mass distribution with a given $p^J_T$ for the inclusive production, where $p^J_T$ is a large jet transverse momentum. Considering the small jet radius limit ($R{\ll}1$), we factorize the scattering cross section into a partonic cross section, the fragmentation function to a jet, and the jet mass distribution function. The decoupled jet mass distributions for quark and gluon jets are well-normalized and scale invariant, and they can be extracted from the ratio of two scattering cross sections such as $d{\sigma}/(dp^J_TdM^2_J)$ and $d{\sigma}/dp^J_T $. When $M_J{\sim}p^J_TR$, the perturbative series expansion for the jet mass distributions works well. As the jet mass becomes small, large logarithms of $M_J/(p^J_TR)$ appear, and they can be systematically resummed through a more refined factorization theorem for the jet mass distribution.

  • Estimation of distribution algorithm (EDA) is a popular stochastic metaheuristic algorithm. EDA has been widely utilized in various optimization problems. However, it has been shown that the diversity of the population gradually decreases during the iterations, which makes EDA easily lead to premature convergence. This article introduces a hybrid estimation of distribution algorithm (EDA) with differential evolution (DE) based on self-adaptive strategy, namely HEDADE-SA. Firstly, an alternative probability model is used in sampling to improve population diversity. Secondly, the proposed algorithm is combined with DE, and a self-adaptive strategy is adopted to improve the convergence speed of the algorithm. Finally, twenty-five benchmark problems are conducted to verify the performance of HEDADE-SA. Experimental results indicate that HEDADE-SA is a feasible and effective algorithm.

  • Droplet size and distribution are important parameters determining venturi scrubber performance. In this paper, we proposed physical models for a maximum stable droplet size prediction and upper limit log-normal (ULLN) distribution parameters. For the proposed maximum stable droplet size prediction model, a Eulerian-Lagrangian framework and a Reitz-Diwakar breakup model are solved simultaneously using CFD calculations to reflect the effect of multistage breakup and droplet acceleration. Then, two ULLN distribution parameters are suggested through best fitting the previously published experimental data. Results show that the proposed approach provides better predictions of maximum stable droplet diameter and Sauter mean diameter compared to existing simple empirical correlations including Boll, Nukiyama and Tanasawa. For more practical purpose, we developed the simple, one dimensional (1-D) calculation of Sauter mean diameter.

  • We explore the latitudinal distribution of sunspots and pursue to establish a correlation between the statistical parameters of the latitudinal distribution of sunspots and characteristics of solar activity. For this purpose, we have statistically analyzed the daily sunspot areas and latitudes observed from May in 1874 to September in 2016. As results, we confirm that the maximum of the monthly averaged International Sunspot Number (ISN) strongly correlates with the mean number of sunspots per day, while the maximum ISN strongly anti-correlates with the number of spotless days. We find that both the maximum ISN and the mean number of sunspots per day strongly correlate with the the average latitude, the standard deviation, the skewness of the the latitudinal distribution of sunspots, while they appears to marginally correlate with the kurtosis. It is also found that the northern and southern hemispheres seem to show a correlated behavior in a different way when sunspots appearing in the northern and southern hemispheres are examined separately.

  • A dual-phase structure refers to a material with two different phases of components or crystal structures. In this study, we analyze the stress distributions for harmonic and composite structured materials which are a kind of dual-phase structure materials. The finite element method (FEM) was used to progress compression test to analyze the strain distribution, and rather than constituted of a fully dense material, a dual-phase structure was designed to make a lightweight structure that has different shapes and volumes of vacancy in each case. As a result of each case, the dual-phase structured materials showed different stress distribution patterns and based on this, the cause was identified through the research.
