  • The Weibull variate is commonly used as a lifetime distribution in reliability applications. Estimation of parameters is revisited in the two-parameter Weibull distribution. The method of product spacings, the method of quantile estimates and the method of least squares are applied to this distribution. A comparative study between a simple minded estimate, the maximum likelihood estimate, the product spacings estimate, the quantile estimate, the least squares estimate, and the adjusted least squares estimate is presented.

  • Let {$X_n,\;n{\geq}1}$ be a sequence of independent identically distributed(i.i.d.) sequence of positive random variables with common absolutely continuous distribution function(cdf) F(x) and probability density function(pdf) f(x) and $E(X^2)<{\infty}$. The random variables $\frac{X_i{\cdot}X_j}{(\Sigma^n_{k=1}X_k)^{2}}$ and $\Sigma^n_{k=1}X_k$ are independent for $1{\leq}i if and only if {$X_n,\;n{\geq}1}$ have gamma distribution.

  • The expansion of a distribution of $K^r_M^r(R)$ in terms of regular orthogonal wavelets is considered. The expansion of a distribution of $K^r_M^r(R)$ is shown to converge pointwise to the value of the distribution where is exists.

  • The new Laplace autoregressive model of order 2-NLAR92) studied by Dewald and Lewis (1985) is extended to the p-th order model-NLAR(p). A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of an innovation sequence and a stationary ergodic NLAR(p) model is obtained. It is shown that the distribution of the innovation sequence is given by the probabilistic mixture of independent Laplace distributions and a degenrate distribution.

  • We consider an extended version of a logarithmic series distribution and discuss the estimation of its parameters by the method of moments and the method of maximum likelihood. Test procedures are suggested to test the significance of the additional parameter of this distribution and all procedures are illustrated with the help of real life data sets. In addition, a simulation study is conducted to assess the performance of the estimators.

  • For multiply Type-II censored samples from two-parameter Rayleigh distribution, we derive some approximate maximum likelihood estimators of parameter in the Rayleigh distribution when the other parameter is known. We also compare the proposed estimators in the sense of the mean squared error for various censored samples.

  • The well-known mode-mean-median inequality for the unimodal population distribution does not always hold for the frequency distribution. But many elementary statistics text books just mention that the relative location of the mean and median can be used to determine whether a distribution is positively or negatively skewed. In this paper we introduce the method generating data that is positively skewed but mean

  • A Gauss map of m-dimensional distribution on a Riemannian manifold M is called a harmonic Gauss map if it is a harmonic map from the manifold into its Grassmann bundle $G_m$(TM) of m-dimensional tangent subspace. We calculate the tension field of the Gauss map of m-dimensional distribution and especially show that the Hopf fibrations on $S^{4n+3}$ are the harmonic Gauss map of 3-dimensional distribution.

  • We present characterizations of the Weibull distribution by the independent property of record values that F(x) has a Weibull distribution if and only if $\frac{X_{U(m)}}{X_{U(n)}}$ and $X_{U(n)}$ or $\frac{X_{U(n)}}{X_{U(n)}{\pm}X_{U(m)}}$ and $X_{U(n)}$ are independent for $1{\leq}m.

  • As the power density and switching frequency increase, thermal analysis of power electronics system becomes imperative. The analysis provides valuable information on the semiconductor rating, long-term reliability. In this paper, thermal distribution of the Non Punchthroug(NPT) Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor with heatsink areas has been studied. For analysis of thermal distribution, we obtained results by using finite element simulator, ANSYS and compared with experimental data by thermocam.
