  • The purpose of this study is provide a basic data for the prevention and management of musculoskeletal symptoms in Korea seamen. 569 seamen's questionnaire had been acquired at Korea Marine Training and Research Institute from February 24 to March 31 in 1997, The results of this study were as follows; Prevalence in musculoskeletal symptom within recent 12 months was 68.5% . It was 3% in seamen who had graduated from colleges or universities and 56.0% in seamen who had graduated from elementary school(p<0.01). The more working hours(p<0.01), servies on the vessel(p<0.01), and the less job satisfaction(p<0.05), the higher prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms were. The distribution of musculoskeletal symptoms by the part of the body was turned out as Back ; 43.6%, knee : 23.9%, shoulder : 19.3%. The officers had more frequency of symptom around the neck than the ratings(p<0.01) and the seamen who work at the engine room were more frequent in elbow than those at deck department(p<0.05). In the duration of pain, 55.4% were less than one week, 20.6% less than 30 days, and 24.0% 30 days and more. the cause of symptom was turned out as 34.5% by excessive hard work and 30.1% was unknown. for the treatment of the musculoskeletal symptoms, 40.3% with symptomes did not have any medical treatment, 27.6% was self-treated and 22.7% was treated at hospital. This study shows that musculoskeletal disorders are seamen's important health problem and they can not properly take medical service due to the out of home for a long period as characteristics of occupation.

  • For decades, many traffic flow studies on the analysis and determination of level of service (LOS) for the weaving sections have been made to Provide several regression equations. Weaving and non-weaving speeds were dependent variables for the equations, with independent variables being weaving length, number of lanes, and weaving ratios. One of the difficulties in developing the equations was that the weaving areas were rare in Korea, so the statistical analyses for calibrating the equation parameter could not be performed in a desirable manner. In this regard, a new and stochastic methodology for predicting the weaving and non-weaving speeds within the weaving sections was required. In this study the following design variables were developed; influence area of the weaving section. headway distribution within the weaving section, maximum weaving volume of the weaving section, length of the ideal weaving section, and speed estimations for the weaving and non-weaving flows. The evaluation of the new model was made comparing the delay in the weaving section with the one in the freeway basic section.

  • This research is the development of a flexible tactile sensor array for service robots using PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) film for the detection of a contact state in real time. The prototype of the tactile sensor which has 8${\times}$8 array using PVDF film was fabricated. In the fabrication procedure, the electrode patterns and the common electrode of the thin conductive tape were attached to both sides of the 281$\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness PVDF film using conductive adhesive. The sensor was covered with polyester film for insulation and attached to the rubber base for a stable structure. The proposed fabrication method is simple and easy to make the sensor. The sensor has the advantages in the implementing for practical applications because its structure is flexible and the shape of the each tactile element can be designed arbitrarily. The signals of a contact force to the tactile sensor were sensed and processed in the DSP system in which the signals are digitized and filtered. Finally, the signals were integrated for taking the force profile. The processed signals of the output of the sensor were visualized in a personal computer, and the shape and force distribution of the contact object were obtained. The reasonable performance for the detection of the contact state was verified through the sensing examples.

  • Since the demand for new military vehicle to fulfill the necessary conditions such as multi-purpose, high-mobility, and survivability has raised continuously from the army, the prototype of a Korean light tactical vehicle was developed to meet these requirements using our own technology. In particular, the new tactical vehicle was equipped with a double wishbone independent suspension to improve ride and handling and maximize off-road driving performance. In this paper, a comprehensive virtual durability process to evaluate the service life of the prototype is presented. A reliability of the trimmed body model based on CATIA data was verified by comparison result between mode analysis and modal test. The dynamic model was constructed using ADAMS/Car, and then the weight distribution and lateral slope driving performance of it were compared with the results of static weight and lateral slope tests. The validity of the VTL(Virtual Test Lab) was checked with test results from the 3-inch spaced impact road. The durability performances of trimmed body and suspension components were evaluated through MSM(Modal Superposition Method) fatigue analysis. It is shown that the virtual durability process could be a helpful tool to find out the weak areas and improve their structures in developing new military vehicle.

  • CA mortar layer disengagement will give rise to the overall structural changes of the track and variation in the vibration form of the ballastless track. By establishing a vehicle-track-viaduct coupling analysis and calculation model, it is possible to analyze the CRTS-I type track structure vibration response while the track slab is disengaging with the power flow evaluation method, to compare the two disengaging types, namely partial contact loss at one edge beneath track slab and partial contact loss at midpoint beneath track slab. It can also study how the length of disengaging influences the track structures vibration power. It is showed that when the partial contact loss beneath track slab, and the relative vibration energy level between the rail and the track slab increases significantly within [10, 200]Hz with the same disengaging length, the partial contact loss at one edge beneath track slab has more prominent influence on the vibration power than the partial contact loss at midpoint beneath track slab. With the increase of disengaging length, the relative vibration energy level of the track slab grows sharply, but it will change significantly when it reaches 1.56 m. Little effect will be caused by the relative vibration energy level of the viaduct. The partial contact loss beneath the track slab will cause more power distribution and transmission between the trail and track slab, and will then affect the service life of the rail and track slab.

  • Cold-air drainage and pooling occur in most mountain valleys at night. Local climates with cold-air pooling could affect phenology and distribution of crop plants. A high resolution infrared imaging radiometer was used to visualize the cold-air drainage and thermal belt formation over a small mountainous watershed (ca. $10{\times}5{\times}1$ km for the maximum length${\times}$width${\times}$depth). Thermal images on $640{\times}480$ pixels were scanned across the Akyang valley (south of Mt. Jiri National Park) by the radiometer installed at a local peak ('Hyongjebong', 1,117 m a.s.l.) at dawn of 17 May 2011, when the synoptic condition was favorable for the surface cooling and cold-air drainage. Major findings are: (1) Cold-air drainage and accumulation was clearly identified by the lowest brightness temperature mainly at the valley bottom. (2) So-called 'thermal belt' with higher brightness temperature was found partway up the valley sidewalls and showed up to $5^{\circ}C$ departure from the valley bottom temperature. (3) Digital thermography showed feasibility for validation of the high definition geospatial temperature models currently in use for the plot-specific agrometeorological service.
