The analytical treatment for a terminal cost problem of a distributed reactor with a small singular parameter is presented. The inverse of the neutron velocity is regarded as a singular parameter, and the model, adopted for simplicity, is a cylindrically symmetrical reactor. The Helmholtz mode expension is used for the application of the optimal theory for lumped parameter systems to the spatially distributed parameter system. The closed-form solution is explicitely obtained for machine calculation.

The paper discussed on the stability of cantilevered pipe conveying fluid subjected to distributed follower force. Governing equations of motion are derived by extended Hamilton's principle, and the numerical scheme using finite element method is applied to obtain the discretized equations. The critical flow velocity as a function of the distributed follower force for the various mass ratio is determined. The flutter configurations of the pipes at the critical flow velocities are drawn graphically at every twelfth period to define the order of quasi-mode of flutter configuration The critical mass ratios, at which the transference of the eigenvalue branches related to flutter take place, are definitely determined. Also, the effect of damping on the stability of the system is considered.
Theoretical analysis is performed on a multi-mode energy harvester design with focus on the first two vibration modes. Based on the analysis, a modification is proposed for designing a novel adaptive multi-mode energy harvester. The device comprises a simply supported beam with distributed mass and piezoelectric elements, and an adaptive damper that provides a 180 degree phase shift for the motions of two supports only at the second vibration mode. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulations show that the new design can efficiently scavenge energy at the first two vibration modes. The energy harvesting capability of the multi-mode energy harvester is also compared with that of a cantilever-based energy harvester for single-mode vibration. The results show that the energy harvesting capacity is affected by the damping ratios of different designs. For fixed damping ratio and design dimensions, the multi-mode design has higher energy harvesting capacity than the cantilever-based design.
With the high penetration of various sustainable energy sources, the control and protection of Microgrids has become a challenging problem considering the inherent current limitation feature of inverter-based Distributed Generators (DGs) and the bidirectional power flow in Microgrids. In this paper, a hybrid control and protection scheme is proposed, which combines the traditional inverse-time overcurrent protection with the biased differential protection for different feeders with different kinds of loads. It naturally accommodates various control strategies such as P-Q control and V-f control. The parameter settings of the protection scheme are analyzed and calculated through a fast Fourier transform algorithm, and the stability of the control strategy is discussed by building a small signal model in MATLAB. Different operation modes such as the grid-connected mode, the islanding mode, and the transitions between these two modes are ensured. A Microgrid model is established in PSCAD and the analysis results show that a Microgrid system can be effectively protected against different faults such as the single phase to ground and the three phase faults in both the grid-connected and islanded operation modes.
This paper presents a control method for reducing the current distortion in an indirect matrix converter (IMC) operating in boost mode under unbalanced input conditions. IMCs operating in boost mode are useful in distributed generation (DG) systems. They are connected with renewable energy systems (RESs) and the grid to transmit the power generated by the RES. However, under unbalanced voltage conditions of the RES, which is connected with the input stage of the IMC operating in boost mode, the input-output currents are distorted. In particular, the output current distortions cause a ripple of the power, which is transferred to the grid. This aggravates the reliability and stability of the DG system. Therefore, in this paper, a control method using positive/negative sequence voltages and currents is proposed for reducing the current distortion of both side in IMCs operating in boost mode. Simulation and experimental results have been presented to validate effectiveness of the proposed control method.

A self-pulsating multisection distributed-feedback laser diode (DFB LD) can potentially realize all-optical clock extraction. This device generally consists of three sections, two DFB sections and one waveguide section. The most important variable in this device is detuning, which is the relative spectral position between the stop bands of two DFB sections. We fabricated a novel structure in which two gratings were located one over and one under the active layers. Each grating structure was independently defined in processing so that detuning, which is the prerequisite for self-pulsation, could be easily controlled. Observing various self-pulsating phenomena in these devices under several detuning conditions, we characterized the phenomena as dispersive Q-switching, mode beating, and self-mode-locking.
As the penetration of different types of renewable energy sources (RES) and energy storage systems (ESS) increases, the importance of stability in AC microgrid is being emphasized. Especially, RES and ESS which are operated using power electronics have difference in output characteristics according to control structures. When faults like single-line-to-ground fault or islanding operation occur, this means that a fault should be interpreted in different way. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze fault characteristics in AC microgrid in case of grid-connected mode and standalone mode. In this paper, the fault analysis for AC microgrid is carried out using PSCAD/EMTDC and an overvoltage problem and the countermeasures were proposed.

Distributed generation (DG) in the future will play an important role in the electricity supply systems, in wich can provide DG capacity from a few hundred kW to tens of MW. However, it is connected to the local power grid, DG will have certain influence on the power quality of the power grid. One of the most significant effects is that they will change the configuration of the local power grid as well as affecting the operation mode of the grid. This paper presents a method of finding the optimal open loop, analyzing and selecting the appropriate mode of operation to reduce power losses of power distribution networks that includes DG.

The compensation characteristics of the distorted WDM channels compensated for by dispersion management (DM) and optical phase conjugation in the long-haul (50 fiber spans ${\times}$ 80 km) transmission link with the randomly distributed single mode fiber (SMF) length and residual dispersion per spans (RDPS) for implementing of the flexible link configuration are investigated.
A distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser and a high speed electroabsorption modulator (EAM) are integrated on the basis of the selective area growth technique. The typical threshold current is 4 to 6 mA, and the side mode suppression ratio is over 40 dB with single mode operation at 1550 nm. The DBR laser exhibits 2.5 to 3.3 mW fiber output power at a laser gain current of 100 mA, and a modulator bias voltage of 0 V. The 3 dB bandwidth is 13 GHz. A 10 Gbps non-return to zero operation with 12 dB extinction ratio is obtained. A four-channel laser array with 100 GHz wavelength spacing was fabricated and its operation at the designed wavelength was confirmed.
