In this paper, an inverse approach based on uniform load surface (ULS) is presented for structural damage localization and quantification. The ULS is excellent approximation for deformed configuration of a structure under distributed unit force applied on all degrees of freedom. The ULS make use of natural frequencies and mode shapes of structure and in mathematical point of view is a weighted average of mode shapes. An objective function presented to damage detection is discrepancy between the ULS of monitored structure and numerical model of structure. Solving this objective function to find minimum value yields damage's parameters detection. The teaching-learning based optimization algorithm has been employed to solve inverse problem. The efficiency of present damage detection method is demonstrated through three numerical examples. By comparison between proposed objective function and another objective function which make use of natural frequencies and mode shapes, it is revealed present objective function have faster convergence and is more sensitive to damage. The method has good robustness against measurement noise and could detect damage by using the first few mode shapes. The results indicate that the proposed method is reliable technique to damage detection in structures.

This paper proposes a simulation method of the internal winding fault to calculate the short-circuit current, electromagnetic force and vibration mode in a distribution power transformer by using FEM program(FLUX2D) and analytic algorithm. A usage of the Transfer matrix method is also presented for the vibration mode analysis of the cable-type winding of power transformer. The equations of the winding are approximated by the series expansions of the distributed mass mode and Timoshenko's beam theory. The simulation examples are provided for the cable type winding of the transformer(22.9[kV]/220[V], 1,000[kVA]) to verify the method. The proposed Transfer Matrix Method is also verified by the ANSYS program for the vibration mode of the transformer winding. The method presented may serve as one of the useful tools in the electromagnetic force and vibration analysis of the transformer winding under the short circuit condition.
This study was designed to investigate the stress intensity and distribution produced by 1mm activation of retraction archwire with $0^{\circ},\;7^{\circ},\;14^{\circ}$ torque and application of high polk J-hook headgear during retraction of four maxillary incisors using the photoelastic stress analysis. The photoelastic model was made with a PL-3 type epoxy resin which was substituted by alveolar bone portion. Each retraction archwire was fabricated from .020' X .025' stainless steel wire which had vertical loops in 7mm height and hooks for high pull J-hook headgear between central and lateral incisors. The high pull J-hook headgear was applied 35 degree backward and upward to occlusal plane with 200gm pet each side The findings of this study were as follows: 1. In case of $0^{\circ}$ torque, the stress was distributed from cervical 1/8 to apex of roots of central and lateral incisors which were the forms of arc mode. When the high pull J-hook headgear was applied, the stress distributed by arc mode was presented from cervical 1/2 to apex of roots of central and lateral incisors. And the stress distributed by following the root surface was presented from alveolar crest to cervical 1/2 of roots of central and lateral incisors. The stress between apecies of central and Lateral incisors was presented also. 2. In case of $7^{\circ}$ torque, the stress distributed by arc mode was presented from cervical 1/2 to apex of roots of central and lateral incisors. And the stress distributed by following the root surface was presented from alveolar crest to cervical 1/2 of roots of central and lateral incisors. When the high pull J-hook headgear was applied, the stress distributed by following the root surface was presented mote apically than without headgear. The stress between apecies of central and lateral incisors was presented also. 3. In case of $14^{\circ}$ torque, the stress distributed by following the root surface was Presented from alveolar crest to apex of roots of central and lateral incisors. When the high pull J-hook headgear was applied, the stress distributed by following the root surface was presented stronger than without headgear The stress between apecies of central and lateral incisors was presented also.
In this study, the feasibility of using telecommunication single-mode optical fiber (SMF) as a distributed fiber optic strain and crack sensor was evaluated in concrete pavement monitoring. Tensile tests on various sensors indicated that the $SMF-28e^+$ fiber revealed linear elastic behavior to rupture at approximately 26 N load and 2.6% strain. Six full-scale concrete panels were prepared and tested under truck and three-point loads to quantify the performance of sensors with pulse pre-pump Brillouin optical time domain analysis (PPP-BOTDA). The sensors were protected by precast mortar from brutal action during concrete casting. Once air-cured for 2 hours after initial setting, half a mortar cylinder of 12 mm in diameter ensured that the protected sensors remained functional during and after concrete casting. The strains measured from PPP-BOTDA with a sensitivity coefficient of $5.43{\times}10^{-5}GHz/{\mu}{\varepsilon}$ were validated locally by commercial fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. Unlike the point FBG sensors, the distributed PPP-BOTDA sensors can be utilized to effectively locate multiple cracks. Depending on their layout, the distributed sensors can provide one- or two-dimensional strain fields in pavement panels. The width of both micro and major cracks can be linearly related to the peak strain directly measured with the distributed fiber optic sensor.

Size distribution of particulate water-soluble ion components was measured at Gosan, Korea using a micro-orifice uniform deposit impactor (MOUDI). Sulfate, ammonium, and nitrate showed peaks in three size ranges; Sulfate and ammonium were of dominant species measured in the fine mode ($D_{p} < 1.8 {\mu}m$). One peak was observed in the condensation mode ($0.218\sim0.532{\mu}m$), and the other peak was obtained in the droplet mode ($0.532\sim1.8{\mu}m$). Considering the fact that the equivalent ratios of ammonium to sulfate ranged from 0.5 to 1.0 in these size ranges, it is inferred that they formed sufficiently neutralized compounds such as ($NH_{4})_{2}SO_{4} and (NH_{4})_{3}H(SO_{4})_{2}$ during the long-range transport of anthropogenic pollutants. On the other hand, nitrate was distributed mainly in the coarse mode ($3.1\sim6.2{\mu}m$) combined with soil and sea salt. Two sets of MOUDI samples were collected in each season. One sample was collected when the concentrations of criteria air pollutants were relatively high, but the other represented relatively clean air quality. The concentrations of sulfate and ammonium particles in droplet mode were the highest in winter and the lowest in summer. When the air quality was bad, the increase of nitrate was observed in the condensation mode ($0.218\sim0.282{\mu}m$). It thus suggests that the nitrate particles were produced through gas phase reaction of nitric acid with ammonia. Chloride depletion was remarkably high in summer due to the high temperature and relative humidity.

Ramjet mode combustion test was performed for a dual-mode ramjet engine model. The engine model consists of an air intake, a combustor and a nozzle. The combustor in the model has a large backward-facing step, designed to be used as a part of a rocket-based combined cycle engine. The test was performed at the flight speed of Mach 5 and the altitude of 24 km. Strong combustion was established only when the fuel was injected from both of the bottom-side and cowl-side wall. When the total fuel stoichiometric ratio was 1.0, distributed as 0.5 on the cowl side and 0.5 on the bottom side, the flow became subsonic at some portion in the combustor by thermal choking, i.e., ramjet mode was established for this condition.

EMD is a fully data-driven signal processing method without using any predetermined basis function and requiring any user parameters setting. However EMD experiences a problem of mode mixing which interferes with decomposing the signal into similar oscillations within a mode. To overcome the problem, EEMD method was introduced. The algorithm performs the EMD method over an ensemble of the signal added independent identically distributed white noise of the same standard deviation. Even so EEMD created problems when the decomposition is complete. The ensemble of different signal with added noise may produce different number of modes and the reconstructed signal includes residual noise. This paper propose an modified EEMD method to overcome mode mixing of EMD, to provide an exact reconstruction of the original signal, and to separate modes with lower cost than EEMD's. The experimental results show that the proposed method provides a better separation of the modes with less number of sifting iterations, costs 20.87% for a complete decomposition of the signal and demonstrates superior performance in the signal reconstruction, compared with EEMD.
Microgrids (MGs) are typically comprised of distributed generators (DGs) including renewable energy sources (RESs), storage devices and controllable loads, which can operate in either interconnected or isolated mode from the main distribution grid. This paper introduces a novel dynamic programming (DP) approach to MG optimization which takes into consideration the coordination of energy supply in terms of heat and electricity. The DP method has been applied successfully to several cases in power system operations. In this paper, a special emphasis is placed on the uncontrollability of RESs, the constraints of DGs, and the application of demand response (DR) programs such as directed load control (DLC), interruptible/curtaillable (I/C) service, and/or demand-side bidding (DSB) in the deregulated market. Finally, in order to illustrate the optimization results, this approach is applied to a couple of examples of MGs in a certain configuration. The results also show the maximum profit that can be achieved.

This paper compared to the operation performance and efficiency of an interleaved active clap ZVS forward converter and an interleaved ZVS half-bridge converter in distributed power system. The design for the current-mode control circuit of an interleaved active clamp ZVS forward converter is presented. To simplify the gate drive circuits, N-P MOSFETs coupled active clamp method is proposed. An efficiency about 90% for the 50∼100% load range is achieved.
In this study, interaction of several interface cracks located between a functionally graded material (FGM) layer and an elastic layer under anti-plane deformation based on the distributed dislocation technique (DDT) is analyzed. The variation of the shear modulus of the functionally graded coating is modeled by an exponential and linear function along the thickness of the layer. The complex Fourier transform is applied to governing equation to derive a system of singular integral equations with Cauchy type kernel. These equations are solved by a numerical method to obtain the stress intensity factors (SIFs) at the crack tips. The effects of non-homogeneity parameters for exponentially and linearly form of shear modulus, the thickness of the layers and the length of crack on the SIFs for several interface cracks are investigated. The results reveal that the magnitude of SIFs decrease with increasing of FG parameter and thickness of FGM layer. The values of SIFs for FGM layer with exponential form is less than the linear form.
