  • This paper presents the model that integrates an SDL system and a CORBA system using mapping rules between method and signal for developing embedded systems connected with internet. In order to support communication between the two different systems (SDL and CORBA), it is essential to secure the conversion interface between SDL communication protocol and CORBA communication protocol. In this paper, IDL is adopted for the communication interface and the conversion of the communication protocol between the two systems, and the IDL compiler automatically generates the interface for protocol interoperability. The proposed model adopts middleware on the subpart of the SDL based legacy system, and hence, supports the service on the distributed system, regardless of the environment and location of the server system.

  • Recently, various industrial embedded systems including vehicles controlled electronically are evolving to distributed multi-micro controller system. Accordingly, there is a need for standard CAN(Controller Area Network) protocol that ensures high stability and reliability of communication and is simple to construct object-oriented system with high control efficiency. CAN communication interface used general-purpose processor doesn't have many limitations in various application development because of fixed hardware architecture. This paper design and implement a CAN communication interface system based on FPGA. It is verified function and performance of system through monitoring communication with existing AT90CAN128 controller. Implemented CAN communication interface can be reused in development of application systems based on FPGA. And it provides low-cost, small-size and low-power design advantages.

Performance evaluation of soil-embedded plastic optical fiber sensors for geotechnical monitoring

  • Based on the distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS) technique, plastic optical fibers (POFs) are attractive candidates to measure deformations of geotechnical structures because they can withstand large strains before rupture. Understanding the mechanical interaction between an embedded POF and the surrounding soil or rock is a necessary step towards establishing an effective POF-based sensing system for geotechnical monitoring. This paper describes a first attempt to evaluate the feasibility of POF-based soil deformation monitoring considering the POF-soil interfacial properties. A series of pullout tests were performed under various confining pressures (CPs) on a jacketed polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) POF embedded in soil specimens. The test results were interpreted using a fiber-soil interaction model, and were compared with previous test data of silica optical fibers (SOFs). The results showed that the range of CP in this study did not induce plastic deformation of the POF; therefore, the POF-soil and the SOF-soil interfaces had similar behavior. CP was found to play an important role in controlling the fiber-soil interfacial bond and the fiber measurement range. Moreover, an expression was formulated to determine whether a POF would undergo plastic deformation when measuring soil deformation. The plasticity of POF may influence the reliability of measurements, especially for monitored geo-structures whose deformation would alternately increase and decrease. Taken together, these results indicate that in terms of the interfacial parameters studied here the POF is feasible for monitoring soil deformation as long as the plastic deformation issue is carefully addressed.

UCI Embedder: A Real-time Broadcast-Content-Identifier Watermarking System for Broadcast Content Distribution Services (방송콘텐츠 유통서비스를 위한 실시간 콘텐츠식별자 은닉삽입 시스템)

  • We introduce the standard content identifier Universal Content Identifier (UCI) and a watermarking system that embeds UCI for the broadcast content distribution services. Our proposed UCI embedder is designed in consideration of integrating with the previously established broadcast system and protecting the illegal distribution of broadcast contents. Our goal is that when broadcast content is transmitted, 28 byte UCI is embedded imperceptibly in the content itself in real-time and the embedded UCI is successfully extracted not only in the typical format used in the broadcast content distribution service but also in the illegally distributed broadcast contents. Usually the illegally distributed contents are modified from the original by changing resolutions, frame rates, or adjusting colors. In this paper, we present a watermarking scheme that embeds 28 byte UCI in broadcast content in real-time while keeping the visual quality high and the embedded watermark robust enough to survive through the various modification. The experimental results show that the embedded UCI remains in the various modified versions of content and that the visual degradation by embedding is not noticeable.

Multimedia Room Bridge Adapter for Seamless Interoperability between Heterogeneous Home Network Devices

  • A home network is a typical ubiquitous computing network that consists of various consumer devices and service environments. Home networks are requiring increasingly more complicated services, such as multimedia home theater and the monitoring and controlling of heterogeneous devices. Accordingly, a mutually connecting mechanism is needed among heterogeneous devices and services redundant. The current paper presents a Multimedia Room Bridge Adapter (MRBA) system that is designed to manage heterogeneous devices and support various services. In addition, a hardware and software prototype is implemented based on the proposed architecture.

  • Cyber-Physical Systems(CPS) that mostly provides safety-critical and mission-critical services requires high reliability, so that system testing is an essential and important process. Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation(HILS) is one of the extensively used techniques for testing hardware systems. However, most conventional HILS has problems that it is difficult to support a distributed operating environment and to reuse a HILS platform. In this paper, we introduce EcoHILS(ETRI CPS Open Human-Interactive hardware-in-the-Loop Simulator) in order to test CPS effectively. Moreover, feasibility tests and performance tests of EcoHILS are performed to confirm its effectiveness.

  • 본 논문에서는 CAN 기반의 분산 제어 시스템을 위한 환경에 특화된 CORBA인 CAN-CORBA의 설계와 구현에 대하여 기술한다. CAN-CORBA는 예약 구독 기반의 그룹 통신과 CORBA의 전통적인 연결 기반 점대점 통신을 모두 지원한다. 또한 내장형 ORB간 통신 프로토콜인 EIOP를 사용하여 메시지 전송량을 획기적으로 줄였다. CAN-CORBA는 서울대학교에서 개발한 실시간 운영체제 mArx에 완전히 구현되었다. 다양한 경험과 실험 결과는 CAN-CORBA가 극심한 자원 제약 한계를 갖는 분산 내장형 제어 시스템을 개발하는데 적합함을 보여주었다.

  • 복잡하고 특수한 기능을 수행하고 기존의 여러 다른 시스템과 연동해야 하는 내장형 시스템을 저비용 고효율적으로 개발하고 시험 및 평가하기 위해서는 분산 실시간 시뮬레이션 환경이 효과적이다. 또한, 특정한 목적으로 개발된 기존의 이질적인 시뮬레이션 모델들간의 상호호환과 재사용이 요구된다. 이러한 요구 사항을 만족시키고, 내장형 시스템과 시뮬레이션 환경의 연동 및 상호운용의 문제점을 해결하기 위해 HLA(High Level Architecture)기반으로 새로운 시뮬레이션 환경구조, 동작과정 및 운영절차를 제안하고 고찰한다.

  • Unmanned autonomous forklifts have a great potential to enhance the productivity of material handling in various applications because these forklifts can pick up and deliver loads without an operator and any fixed guide. Especially, automation of pallet loading and unloading technique is useful for enhancing performance of logistics and reducing cost for automation system. There are, however, many technical difficulties in developing such forklifts including localization, map building, sensor fusion, control, and so on. This is because the system requires numerous sensors, actuators, and controllers that need to be connected with each other, and the number of connections grows very rapidly as the number of devices grows. This paper presents a vision sensorbased autonomous loading and unloading for network-based unmanned forklift where system components are connected to a shared CAN network. Functions such as image processing and control algorithm are divided into small tasks that are distributed over a number of microcontrollers with a limited computing capacity. And the experimental results show that proposed architecture can be an appropriate choice for autonomous loading in the unmanned forklift.

  • Traditional Malware Detection is susceptible for detecting malware which is modified by polymorphism or obfuscation technology. By learning patterns that are embedded in malware code, machine learning algorithms can detect similar behaviors and replace the current detection methods. Data must collected continuously in order to learn malicious code patterns that change over time. However, the process of storing and processing a large amount of malware files is accompanied by high space and time complexity. In this paper, an HDFS-based distributed processing system is designed to reduce space complexity and accelerate feature extraction time. Using a distributed processing system, we extract two API features based on filtering basis, 2-gram feature and APICFG feature and the generalization performance of ensemble learning models is compared. In experiments, the time complexity of the feature extraction was improved about 3.75 times faster than the processing time of a single computer, and the space complexity was about 5 times more efficient. The 2-gram feature was the best when comparing the classification performance by feature, but the learning time was long due to high dimensionality.
