고속 광통신 시스템용 비대칭 분포귀환형 레이져 다이오드의 신뢰성에 관한 연구 (Reliablity of Distributed Feedback Laser Diodes for High-speed Optical Communication Systems)

  • As the demand of internet networks using backbone communication systems recently increased, the researches on the high-speed wideband optical communication systems are required. For high-speed optical communication systems, asymmetric sampled grating distributed feedback laser diodes (DFB-LDs) are developed and the reliability of DFB-LDs is examined. The reliability of DFB-LDs is performed by monitoring I-V and L-I characteristics and two degradation phenomena related to the electrical characteristics of LDs are observed during the life tests. The first degradation phenomenon by increasing the reverse current is considered as a formation of leakage current path enough to prevent lasing operation in lateral blocking layer near active region of lasers. The second degradation phenomenon by decreasing the forward current is considered as activation of non-radiative Auger recombination process by thermal energy and the second degradation phenomenon is recovered after the off-test period at room temperature Eventually, evaluating the reliability of DFB LDs can allow us to improved the manufacturability in high-volume manufacturing.

  • In this study, we investigated the thermal properties of $Zr_{66.4}Nb_{6.4}Cu_{10.5}Ni_{8.7}Al_{8.0}$ by using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and then analyzed the composition of dendrite phase by using X-ray diffraction (XRD). A series of uniaxial compression tests has been performed under the strain rates between $10^{-5}/s$ and $10^{-2}/s$ at room temperature and near SLR. This BMGC has higher high temperature strength than other Zr-based monolithic BMGs because in-situ formed crystalline phases hinder a feasible viscous flow of amorphous matrix. Warm formability is also estimated by laboratory-scale extrusion test within supercooled liquid region. It was found that BMGC has poor formability compared with nother Zr-based bulk metallic glass composite presumably due to large volume fraction of 'brittle' crystalline phases distributed within amorphous matrix.

A356.2 합금의 수축과 기공에 미치는 주조 조건의 영향 (The Effect of Casting Conditions on Shrinkage and Porosity of A356.2 Alloys)

  • In this study, volumes of shrinkage and porosity of A356.2 alloys during casting were analyzed as a function of melt temperature, pouring diameter, mold temperature, and Sr content. The temperature of the melt barely affected the shrinkage and porosity formation. The pouring diameter determined the pouring rate, and it was proportional to the shrinkage, yet no relationships with the density of porosity were observed. When the mold was heated at $400^{\circ}C$, shrinkage and porosity in the alloy increased above the one in the mold without heating. However, the mold without heating experienced interior shrinkage and the porosity was mainly distributed near interior shrinkage. The addition of Sr to the melt resulted in more shrinkage and less porosity.

  • 철광석 용융환원 공정에서 석탄의 고온열분해시 석탄중에 함유된 황화합물의 거동을 파악하기 위한 기초실험을 수행하였다. 사용된 시료는 역청탄인 호주산 Hunter및 Mt. Thorley와 남아프리카의 Ensham 석탄이며, 반응온도 800~110$0^{\circ}C$ 사이에서 황화합물의 종류와 발생량을 분석하였다. 황함유 가스화할물은 주로 H$_2$S의 형태로 배출되며, COS및 CS$_2$가 미량 배출되었다. 또한 석탄중의 황화합물이 가스 및 타르의 휘발성물질과 석탄촤로 약 50%:50% 정도로 분배되었다.

  • $SiO_2$ insulator layers on InSb have been prepared by remote PECVD system a low temperature below $200^{\circ}C$. The effects of deposition pressure, temperature, and gas flow ratio on the physical and electrical characteristics of the $SiO_2$ were studied. The InSb MIS device using $SiO_2$ was fabricated and measured its current-voltage and capacitance-voltage characteritance-voltage charateristics at 77K. The films evaluated Auger electron spectroscopy showed that composition atoms were distributed uniformaly throughout the oxide film and the outdiffusion of substrate atoms into the oxide were few. The leakage current density of the MIS device was about 6.26nA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 0.75MV/cm , and the breakdown voltage was about 1MV/cm. The interface-stage density at mid-bandgap extracted from 1MHz C-V measurement was $54\times 10^{11}\textrm{cm}^2-2V^{-1}$.

  • This paper presents a mathematical model predicting the temperature distribution in rotating GMA welding. The bead width increases with rotation frequency at the same rotation diameter because the molten droplets are deflected by centrifugal force. The numerical solution is obtained by solving the transient three-dimensional heat conduction equation considering the heat input from the welding arc, cathode heating and molten droplets. Generally in GMA welding the heat input may be assumed as a normally distributed source, but the droplet deflection causes some changes in the heat input distribution. To estimate the heat flux distribution due to the molten droplet, the contact point where the droplet is transferred on the weld pool surface is calculated from the flight trajectory of the droplets under the arc plasma velocity field obtained from the arc plasma analysis. The numerical analysis shows a tendency of broadened bead width and shallow penetration depth with the increase of rotating frequency. The simulation results are in good agreement with those obtained by the experiments under various welding conditions.

  • InGaAsP/InP ridge waveguide(RWG) distributed feedback(DFB) lasers (LD) operating at 1.55.mu.m were fabricated by a two step MOCVD process. The CW laser threshold and the slope efficiency from these lasers are 22.5mA and 0.127mW/MA perfacet at room temperature. Single longitudinal mode operation with side mode suppression of more than 30dB is obtained at 5mW. The temperature sensitivity and characteristic temperature (T$_{0}$) from DFB lasers were obtained 1.0.angs./.deg. C and 50.3K between 20.deg. C and 70.deg. C, respectively.y.

Reproductive Biology of the Temperate Soft Coral Dendronephthya suensoni (Alcyonacea: Nephtheidae)

  • The azooxanthellate soft coral Dendronephthya suensoni (Holem, 1895) is distributed mainly around Jejudo Island, Korea. This species was determined as gonochoric with a sex ratio of 2:1 (female:male). Both female and male colonies have one gametogenic cycle a year. The annual reproductive cycle of D. suensoni is dependent on the seawater temperature. In particular, reproduction of the male colony showed a higher positive correlation between seawater temperature and the mean diameter of the spermaries. Gametogenesis in females and males took 6 months and 12 months, respectively. The mean diameter of a mature oocyte was $249.29\;{\pm}\;36.24\;{\mu}m$, with a maximum size of $354.45\;{\mu}m$. Spawning could have occurred in the fall after the seawater temperature began to decrease.

  • High temperature annealing is required to synthesize graphene using CVD. When thin metal catalyst is used for the synthesis, the high temperature pre-annealing makes the thin catalyst highly agglomerated. We investigated the agglomeration effect on the shape of the synthesized graphene. It is found that high temperature annealing makes randomly distributed many hole or blister on metal catalyst, and the synthesized graphene features floral pattern around the hole. The floral patterns of graphene turned out to be multi-layers and higher D peaks in raman spectrum.

  • Interpenetrating phase composites of $TiB_2$-Cu system were produced via Spark-Plasma Sintering (SPS) oi nanocomposite powders. Under simultaneous action of pressure, temperature and electric current titanium diboride nanoparticles distributed in copper matrix move, agglomerate and form a fine-grained skeleton. Increasing SPS-temperature and he]ding time promote densification due to local melting of copper matrix When copper melting is avoided the compacts contain 17-20% porosity but titanium diboride skeleton is still formed representing the feature of SPS . High degree of densification and formation of titanium diboride network result in increased hardness of high-temperature SPS-compacts.
