  • Recently, the explosive popularity of Internet gave birth to researches on Distributed Virtual Environments(DVE). They aim at providing a shared application data environment at realtime for users participating in the same application session across Internet. As more users join the session, and as more multimedia data are shared, because of network resource limitation, it is more difficult to maintain the quality of DVE, such as users' satisfaction level. Previous works mainly tried to solve the scalability, synchronization and data transport issues at the application level, with limited success. We suggest a new network centric solution, that consists of a novel network architecture and protocols upon which any large-scale DVE application can be easily developed. The performance of the proposed scheme, called GAIA, is verified by simulation.

  • Computing infrastructures and technologies are moving into the distributed environments. Due to increase of M&A, and outsourcing processes, or increase or development of various system in an organizations, there are various problems resing such as difficulties in maintenance and repairment, repetition or inconsistency of data, and lacks of interconnection between different of difficulties in financing and selecting an adequate solutionas. This study presents a method to integrate systems adopting massage middleware as an efficient alternative for integration of applications and data between different models under distributed system environments. We expect that the integration method presented in this study, adopting massage middleware between system, will be an efficient alternative to build up interface between small system in terms of expense and efficiency.

  • In the existing naval combat system, integrated management is done based on subsystems that make up the system. The naval combat system, however, is a large-scale distributed system made up of subsystems of diverse heterogeneous environments. Although each of the subsystems can be easily managed because they are on the same platform, it is extremely difficult to integrate and manage as a single entity all subsystems that make up the naval combat system because the heterogeneous environments and distributed systems have to be taken into account. In fact, there hasn't been a technique available to integrate and manage subsystems that make up the naval combat system, until now. In this paper, the architecture of an integrated management system is designed and implemented to provide the user with various services. Furthermore, a system that can manage subsystems of the naval combat system in an integrated way is developed.

  • In this paper, we propose a homogeneous multisensor-based navigation algorithm for a mobile robot, which is intelligently searching the goal location in unknown dynamic environments with moving obstacles using multi-ultrasonic sensor. Instead of using "sensor fusion" method which generates the trajectory of a robot based upon the environment model and sensory data, "command fusion" method by fuzzy inference is used to govern the robot motions. The major factors for robot navigation are represented as a cost function. Using the data of the robot states and the environment, the weight value of each factor using fuzzy inference is determined for an optimal trajectory in dynamic environments. For the evaluation of the proposed algorithm, we performed simulations in PC as well as real experiments with mobile robot, AmigoBot. The results show that the proposed algorithm is apt to identify obstacles in unknown environments to guide the robot to the goal location safely.

  • In this research we have developed a prototype which manages a product structure and configuration of a product under distributed heterogeneous computing environments. First, the data schema for product structure and configuration which can represent options and effectivity is proposed. Second, a technique to use JAVA and CORBA is suggested for the exchange of product structure among multiple servers in CITIS environments. Functions of the prototype related to option-based product structure are described to help readers' understanding.

  • A practical method to investigate the sharing architecture of FMS, for small and medium enterprises, on distributed heterogeneous environmental conditions is investigated. Because the industrial FMS model requires a reasonable size for actual work-site flexible operation, the initial facility expense is very heavy. The support for flexible cooperation of FMS, with some external different FMS, can reduce expenditures and provide greater functionality. While most FMS provide their operation process using an adequate mechanism, when used in isolation, such as island of automation, there is increasing demand for FMS that can cooperate. By exchanging intermediate products and information with other external FMS, products can be produced that cannot be produced alone, such as those that require various processes. This study first considers the sharing architecture of FMS for small and medium enterprises, and investigates the effects of the general sharing architecture of FMS on distributed heterogeneous environments, by using transducer approach to agentification. In this study, set-up station or in-out station takes charge of the gateway of intermediate products, and routes them among distributed heterogeneous FMS plants. The transducer approach is applied to web agent and set-up agent established interfaces, with system controller and setup controller. In this study, the FMS-established sharing architecture is able to obtain not only the internal flexibility, but also the external flexibility.

  • Development of network and computer technology results in many studies to use physically distributed computers as a single resource. Generally, these studies have focused on developing environments based on message passing. These environments are mainly used to solve problems for scientific computation and process in parallel suing inside parallelism of the given problems. Therefore, these environments provide high parallelism generally, while it is difficult to program and use as well as it is required to have user accounts in the distributed computers. If a given problem is divided into completely independent subproblems, more efficient environment can be provided. We can find these problems in bio-informatics, 3D animatin, graphics, and etc., so the development of new environment for these problems can be considered to be very important. Therefore, we suggest new environment called InterCom based on a proxy computing, which can solve these problems efficiently, and explain the implementation of this environment. This environment consists of agent, server, and client. Merits of this environment are easy programing, no need of user accounts in the distributed computers, and easiness by compiling distributed code automatically.

  • Advances in networking infrastructure have led to the development of a new type of "computational grid" infrastructure that provides predictable, consistent and uniform access to geographically distributed resources such as computers, data repositories, scientific instruments, and advanced display devices Such Grid environments are being used to construct sophisticated, performance-sensitive applications in such areas as dynamic, distributed real-time applications. In this paper, we propose a toolset for designing distributed real-time systems based on computational grid. The toolset is based on a new methodology and integrates the models that methodology Proposed for designing real-time systems.

  • The recent requirement for faster and more frequent solutions has encouraged the consideration of parallel implementations using decentralized processors. Distributed multi-processor environments can potentially greatly increase the available computational capacity and decrease the communication burden, allowing for faster Optimal Power Flow (OPF) solutions. This paper presents a mathematical approach to implementing distributed OPF using the alternating direction method (ADM) to parallelize the OPF. Several IEEE Reliability Test Systems were adopted to demonstrate the proposed algorithm.

  • Enterprise integration and virtual enterprise are practical visions of industrial information implementations in the information society. In these environments, the distributed and heterogeneous data sources should be exchanged and shared in effective and integrated way. However, the distributed and heterogeneous data sources are managed by independent and heterogeneous computer systems, thus system users and developers are faced difficulties in implementing enterprise integration environments, In this study, we designed and developed a database broker system utilizing a routing broker method to provide transparent location access mechanisms for the distributed and heterogeneous data sources. The proposed mechanism is designed to act as a middle tier between clients and multiple servers, and adopts Java, CORBA, and JDBC as its state-of-the-art techniques.
