  • In this paper, we propose a method for the postprocessing of cursive script recognition in Wine Label Images. The proposed method mainly consists of three steps: combination matrix generation, character combination filtering, string matching. Firstly, the combination matrix generation step detects all possible combinations from a recognition result for each of the pieces. Secondly, the unnecessary information in the combination matrix is removed by comparing with bigram of word in the lexicon. Finally, string matching step decides the identity of result as a best matched word in the lexicon based on the levenshtein distance. An experimental result shows that the recognition accuracy is 85.8%.

  • An iterative modal analysis approach is developed to determine the effect of transverse open cracks on the dynamic behavior of simply supported Euler-Bernoulli beams with the moving masses. The influences of the velocities of moving masses, the distance between the moving masses and a crack have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a simply supported beam system by numerical method. The Presence of crack results In large deflection of beam. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments i.e. the crack is modelled as a rotational spring. This flexibility matrix defines the relationship between the displacements and forces across the crack section and is derived by applying fundamental fracture mechanics theory. Totally, as the velocity of the moving masses and the distance between the moving masses are increased, the mid-span deflection of simply supported beam with the crack is decreased.

  • Light intensity variation is one of the key factors which affect the accuracy of vehicle face re-identification, so in order to improve the robustness of vehicle face features to light intensity variation, a Nonnegative Matrix Factorization model with the constraint of image acquisition time difference is proposed. First, the original features vectors of all pairs of positive samples which are used for training are placed in two original feature matrices respectively, where the same columns of the two matrices represent the same vehicle; Then, the new features obtained after decomposition are divided into stable and variable features proportionally, where the constraints of intra-class similarity and inter-class difference are imposed on the stable feature, and the constraint of image acquisition time difference is imposed on the variable feature; At last, vehicle face matching is achieved through calculating the cosine distance of stable features. Experimental results show that the average False Reject Rate and the average False Accept Rate of the proposed algorithm can be reduced to 0.14 and 0.11 respectively on five different datasets, and even sometimes under the large difference of light intensities, the vehicle face image can be still recognized accurately, which verifies that the extracted features have good robustness to light variation.

  • A general linearly constrained narrowband adaptive array is examined in the eigenvector space. The optimum weight vector in the eigenvector space is shown to have the same performance as in the standard coordinate system, except that the input signal correlation matrix and look direction steering vector are replaced with the eigenvalue matrix and transformed steering vector. It is observed that the variation in gain factor results in the variation in the distance between the constraint plane and the origin in the translated weight vector space such that the increase in gain factor decreased the distance from the constraint plane to the origin, thus affecting the nulling performance. Simulation results showed that the general linearly constrained adaptive array performed better at an optimal gain factor compared with the conventional linearly constrained adaptive array in a coherent signal environment and the former showed similar performance as the latter in a noncoherent signal environment.

  • This paper presents a multi-robot localization based on multidimensional scaling (MDS) in spite of the existence of incomplete and noisy data. While the traditional algorithms for MDS work on the full-rank distance matrix, there might be many missing data in the real world due to occlusions. Moreover, it has no considerations to dealing with the uncertainty due to noisy observations. We propose a robust MDS to handle both the incomplete and noisy data, which is applied to solve the multi-robot localization problem. To deal with the incomplete data, we use the Nystr$\ddot{o}$m approximation which approximates the full distance matrix. To deal with the uncertainty, we formulate a Bayesian framework for MDS which finds the posterior of coordinates of objects by means of statistical inference. We not only verify the performance of MDS-based multi-robot localization by computer simulations, but also implement a real world localization of multi-robot team. Using extensive empirical results, we show that the accuracy of the proposed method is almost similar to that of Monte Carlo Localization(MCL).

  • In this paper, we experimented with speaker change detection that uses a statistical method for NOD (News On Demand) service. A specified speaker's change can find out content of each data in speech if analysed because it means change of data contents in news data. Speaker change detection acts as preprocessor that divide input speech by speaker. This is an important preprocessor phase for speaker tracking. We detected speaker change using GLR(generalized likelihood ratio) distance base division and BIC (Bayesian information criterion) base division among matrix method. An experiment verified speaker change point using BIC base division after divide by speaker unit using GLR distance base method first. In the experimental result, FAR (False Alarm Rate) was 63.29 in high noise environment and FAR was 54.28 in low noise environment in MDR (Missed Detection Rate) 15% neighborhood.

  • There has been many studies representing intellectual structures with multidimensional scaling(MDS) However MDS configuration is limited in representing local details and explicit structures. In this paper, we identified two components of MDS mapping approach; one is MDS algorithm and the other is preparation of data matrix. Various combinations of the two components of MDS mapping are compared through some measures of fit. It is revealed that the conventional approach composed of ALSCAL algorithm and Euclidean distance matrix calculated from Pearson's correlation matrix is the worst of the compared MDS mapping approaches. Otherwise the best approach to make MDS map is composed of PROXSCAL algorithm and z-scored Euclidean distance matrix calculated from Pearson's correlation matrix. These results suggest that we could obtain more detailed and explicit map of a knowledge domain through careful considerations on the process of MDS mapping.
