  • In manufacturing a micro die with half spherical cavity by MEDM, it is necessary to prepare an electrode with the same shape. This paper suggests a simple method to manufacture a half spherical electrode based on tool wear. The tool wears more rapidly at the edge of a cylindrical electrode. In order to make a half spherical micro electrode, cylindrical electrode was fed into the workpiece by the distance of its radius. The d/R(depth/Radius) value varied with respect to capacitance and electrode diameter. The smaller the size of electrode was, the closer the electrode tip geometry approached to a half sphere.

  • In this study, bolted joint made of Glass-Mat Reinforced Thermoplastics (GMT) specimen was under tensile loading to investigate the relation between joint strength and glass-fiber weight fraction of the flat plate specimen. The effect of molding conditions such as the initial size of a GMT charge and molding temperatures was investigated under plane strain condition. In consideration of the specimen geometry, minimum end distance and width of the specimen to induce the bearing fracture mode of the bolted joint were determined. And finally, the effect of the outer diameter of washer and clamping pressure on joint strength was also investigated. Since joint strength is dependent on the local glass-fiber weight fraction, experimentally measured strength was modified, considering its irregular values of the specimen molded under various processing conditions in order to obtain a reasonable correlation between the two.

  • The geometric parameters between wheel and rail change wheel/rail contact geometry characteristics, and this influence dynamic behavior of rolling stock. So, the selections of optimum geometric parameters between wheel and rail is important for planning of railway system. In this study, we have analyzed the influence of geometric parameters like wheel flange-back distance, gage, and rail inclination on the equivalent conicity relating to dynamic behavior. The analyses show the following results. The widening of wheel flange-back distanc, the decrement of gage increase the equivalent conicity and the increment of rail inclination show the sharp change of the equivalent conicity.

  • The modular self-wiping co-rotating twin screw extruder (SWCOR) has become the most important of twin screw machines. Screw design is one of the most important factors in determining performance of screw extruder. The screw flight and screw channel geometry of SWCOR is determined by the screw diameter, centerline distance, helix angle, and flights number. The maximum allowable throughput rate on a twin screw extruder is determined by a combination of free volume and available specific torque. In this paper we designed geometrical parameters of extruder screw and presented optimal specific torque value in K=1.55, and then developed screw design program for the screw cutting by the use of JAVA API in the twin screw extruder.

  • A parametric study on a fluidic oscillator was performed numerically in this work. Three-dimensional unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations were solved to analyze the flow in the fluidic oscillator. As turbulence closure, $k-{\varepsilon}$ model was employed. Validation of the numerical results was performed by comparing numerical results with experimental data for frequency of the oscillation. The parametric study was performed using five geometric parameters. Performance of the fluidic oscillator was evaluated in terms of velocity ratio and pressure drop. The results show that the inlet channel width and the distance between splitters are important factors in determining the performance of the fludic oscillator.

  • In the present work, a numerical study of fluid flow and heat transfer on the concave surface with impinging jet has been performed by solving three-dimensional Reynods-averaged Naver-Stokes(RANS) equations. The constant temperature condition was applied to the concave impingement surface. The inclination angle of jet nozzle and the distance between jet nozzles are chosen as design variables under equivalent mass flow rate of working fluid into cooling channel, and area averaged Nusselt number on concave impingement surface is set as the objective function. Thirteen training points are obtained by Latin Hypercube sampling method, and the PEA model is constructed by using the objective function values at the trainging points. And, the sequential quadratic programming is used to search for the optimal paint from the PBA model. Through the optimization, the optimal shape shows improved heat transfer rate as compared to the reference geometry.

  • This paper proposes a roughing path generation method fer machining impeller with 5-axis machining center. Traditional researches are focus on finishing for machining impeller. To achieve efficient machining, roughing method must be studied. The proposed method consists two steps : One is to select optimal tool size and tool attitude by dividing cutting area into two regions to reduce cutting time. The regions are automatically divided by character point on the geometry of impeller blade. After dividing, the tool of the optimal size is selected for each divided region. The other is avoidance of tool interference. Tool interference in cutting areas is avoided by checking the distance between tool axis vector and ruling line on blade surface or approximated plan between ruling line. Using this method, the cutting time is reduced efficiently.

  • An autonomous pipeline inspection gauge system has been developed for determining position, orientation, curvature, and deformations such as dents and wrinkles of operating pipelines by Korea Gas Company and Seoul National University. The most important part of several subsystems is the Strapdown Inertial Measurement Unit (SIMU), which is integrated with velocity and distance sensors, weld detection system, and digital recording device. The Geometry Pipeline Inspection Gauge (GeoPIG) is designed to operate continuously and autonomously for a week or longer in operating gas pipelines. In this paper, the design concepts, system integration, and data processing/analysis method for the PIG will be presented. Results from the recent experiment for a 58 kilometer gas pipeline will be discussed.

  • A parametric study on anti-vortex holes for turbine blade cooling was investigated numerically. Three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations and shear stress transport turbulence model were used for analysis of anti-vortex film cooling. Validation of numerical results was carried out comparing with experimental data. The cooling performance of anti-vortex holes was assessed by two geometric variables, the ratio of diameters of holes and the lateral distances between the primary hole and anti-vortex hole at blowing ratios of 0.5 and 1.0. The results showed that the spatially-averaged film-cooling effectiveness increases as the ratio of the diameters increases and the distance between the primary hole and anti-vortex hole decreases.

  • In this study, we proposed three analysis methods to calculate the flatness of torque-angle sensors (TAS). We introduced two statistical and one geometrical methods in evaluating the precision of the flat plane in the axis direction for TAS. To verified the results, we fabricated TAS and a reference sample using a injection molding machine, mold, polyester as a raw material. We measured ($x_i$, $y_i$) position using 3D contact automated system and applied three analysis methods developed for TAS and a reference sample to see the feasibility. While each analysis method has its own pros and cons, the analysis using the shortest optimal distance was the most precise technique for the flatness evaluation of TAS components.
