Transmission Performance Analysis for Terrestrial Digital Broadcast Systems According to Hierarchical Modulation Factor(α) (계층변조 지수(α)에 따른 지상파 디지털 방송 시스템의 전송성능 분석)

  • An analytical method for identifying terrestrial broadcasting coverages is proposed for a terrestrial broadcasting transmission system adopting a hierarchical modulation technique. Bit Error Rates(BERs) are derived for hierarchically modulated non-uniform QAM constellations based on the Q-function analysis in AWGN environments. The derived BERs depend on the hierarchical modulation factor ${\alpha}$(HMF) and could be mapped to the broadcasting coverages according to the link budget analysis based on the log-distance path loss model. Finally the broadcasting coverage ratios for high priority(HP) streams and low priority(LP) streams are calculated and presented for the determination of the HMF.

  • This study aimed to test the factor structure of the measure of student participation in distance education. The study population consisted of all teachers in public education and faculty members in higher education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by applying it to a sample of bachelor's and graduate students at the college of Education at umm al-Qura University. The (ESE) was applied to a random sample representing the study population consisting of (216) respondents. The results of the study showed that the scale consists of three main factors, with showed a high degree of construct validity through fit indices of the confirmatory factor analysis. The results have shown a gradual consistency of the measure's invariance that reaches the high level of the Measurement Invariance across the gender and study groups variables.

  • Carnegie Hubble Program II (hereafter CHP II) is a large Hubble Space Telescope (HST) observing campaign in the cycle 22 composed of a total of 184 orbits (132 primes + 52 parallels), which aims to measure H0 directly with an unprecedented accuracy. Unlike our previous efforts in CHP I which used Cepheids as a yardstick, CHP II takes the Population II (Pop II) distance indicators such as RR Lyraes and tip of the red giant branch stars (TRGBs) to set up a new calibration to Type Ia supernovae (SN Ia) distance. The Pop II distance scales have two immediate advantages over the classical Cepheid method: 1) The period-luminosity relation of the RR Lyrae has a scatter that is a factor of 2 smaller; 2) The RR Lyrae/TRGB distance scale can be applied to both elliptical and spiral galaxies. This will provide a great systematic benefit by ultimately allowing us to double the number of SN Ia distances based on geometry. By taking advantage of this Pop II route, we expect to measure H0 value to 3 % of error which will be the highest accuracy H0 measurement to date using the "Distance Ladder" method. In this talk I will present a brief background/overview on the CHP II, observations/data acquisition status, and ongoing research progress/preliminary results.

  • The purpose of this research is to demonstrate the necessity of conserving and maintaining eco-parks by estimating their economic value. Wonheung-ee Park in Sannam 3 District of Cheongju City was chosen as the subject and a quantitative estimation was conducted. The quantitative analysis utilized the hedonic price model that estimates the value of non-market goods. The summarized results of this study are follows. The subject park influenced the prices of its neighboring apartments. The most important factor was the distance between the park and the subject apartment. When the distance was longer than 400m, the impact was greatest. The quantitative assessment also showed that apartment prices and the distance between an apartment and the park had a negative relationship. When the distance increased by 1%, apartment prices decreased by 0.430%. This means that within a certain distance, the closer an apartment is to the park, the higher is the price. Demonstrating the economic value of eco-parks, this study also supports the importance of preserving eco-areas. It generally shows that when we develop a city, we should refrain destroying the ecosystem.

  • Since human listening is very sensitive to sound, a subjective index of a sound quality is required. Therefore, in the analysis for each situation, the sound evaluation is composed with sound quality factor. Many researchers spends their effort to make a more reliable and more accurate of sound in term of sound quality index for various system noise. The previous methods to evaluation of the SQ about vehicle interior noise are linear regression analysis of subjective SQ metrics by statistics and the estimation of the subjective SQ values by neural network. But these are so depended on jury test very much that they result in many difficulties. So, to reduce jury test weight, we suggested a new method using Mahalanobis distance for SQ evaluation. Threrefore, in this study Mahalanobis distance for the vehicle interior noise was derived using the objective SQ except jury test. Finnaly, the results of the SQ evaluation was analyzed discrimination between reference and abnormal group.

Face Recognition Based on Weighted Hausdorff Distance for Profile Image (가중치 하우스도르프 거리를 이용한 프로파일 얼굴인식)

  • In this paper, we present a new Practical implementation of a person verification system using the profile of 3-dimensional(3D) face images based on weighted Hausdorff distance(WHD) used depth information. The approach works on finding the nose tip have protrusion shape on the face using iterative selection method to use a fiducial feint and extract the profile image from vertical 3D data for the nose tip. Hausdorff distance(HD) is one of usually used measures for object matching. This works analyze the conventional HD and WHD, which the weighted factor is depth information. The Ll measure for comparing two feature vectors were used, because it is simple and robust. In the experimental results, the WHD method achieves recognition rate of 94.3% when the ranked threshold is 5.

Species richness related to landscape characteristics of uninhabited islands in Korea

  • The principal objective of this study was to characterize the relationships between geographical conditions (e.g., island area, distance to mainland) and landscape structures of uninhabited islands, and to evaluate the effects of islands and their landscape structures on species richness. One hundred randomly selected islands and 5,000 m buffered areas derived from the boundaries of each island were used to summarize the number of observed bird species, and landscape pattern indices, particularly patch density, edge density, shape index, and mean nearest neighboring distance. Spatial arrangements of individual patch type at the class level, which are markedly affected by the distance from an island to the mainland, have a superior ability to explain the variances in species richness, as compared to the geographical conditions and landscape pattern indices at the landscape level. The results demonstrate that the patch type landscape structure is the primary factor affecting species richness, as well as the distance to the mainland. In particular, landscape pattern indices of cropland/pasture and woody cover are statistically significant in terms of explaining species richness, which suggests that food resources and appropriate conditions in landscape structures of habitat types are assumed as important elements in attracting bird species. This study also proposes the importance of evaluation on the landscape structure of each island, in order to designate protected areas and to establish a management plan for species conservation in uninhabited islands.

Development of Accident Analysis Model in Car to Pedestrian Accident (차 대 보행자 충돌 시 사고해석 모델 개발)

  • The fatalities of pedestrian account for about 21.2% of all fatalities at 2007 year in Korea. To reconstruct exactly the accident, it is important to calculate the throw distance of pedestrian in car to pedestrian accident. The frontal shape of SUV vehicle is dissimilar to passenger car and bus, so the trajectory and throw distance of pedestrian by SUV vehicle is not the same of passenger car and bus. The influencing on it can be classified into the factors of vehicle and pedestrian, and road factor. It was analyzed by PC-CRASH for simulation, and SPSS s/w was used for regression analysis. From the simulation results, the maximum impact energy of multi-body of pedestrian was occurred to that of torso body at the same time. And the throw distance increased with the increasing of impact velocity, and decreased with the increasing of impact offset. Also it decreased with the increasing of velocity of pedestrian at accident, and the throw distance of wet road was longer than that of dry road. Finally, the regression analysis model of SUV(Nissan Pathfinder type)vehicle in car to pedestrian accident was as follows; $$disti_i=-0.87-0.11offseti_i+0.69speed_i-4.27height_i+0.004walk_i+0.63wet_i+{\epsilon}_i$$.

A Study on the Relationship between the Cutting Force and the Critical Ejecting Distance of Disk for a Mill Turret (복합공구대 디스크임계돌출거리와 절삭력과의 관계에 관한 연구)

  • Curvic coupling of mill turret should maintain disk weight and the cutting resistance which occurs the machining operation and must also have power transmission function. In order to improve machining operation range, the ejecting distance from curvic coupling to the disk must increase as much as possible. But moment is increased by the lack of capacity of the curvic coupling. Increase of moment is the cause of vibration/noise and degradation of machining performance not only stability problem. The manufacturer of mill turret has no the design information between the ejecting distance and the cutting resistance with safety of curvic coupling. Therefore this study describes a finite element analysis model of mill turret using ANSYS workbench. The structural analyses and modal analyses with varying of the ejecting distances and cutting resistances are performed. Finally the equation for relationship between the critical ejecting distance and the cutting resistance is defined under 5 of the safety factor for the maximum von-Mises stress at the curvic coupling.

Reconstruction Analysis of Vehicle-pedestrian Collision Accidents: Calculations and Uncertainties of Vehicle Speed (차량-보행자 충돌사고 재구성 해석: 차량 속도 계산과 불확실성)

  • In this paper, a planar model for mechanics of a vehicle/pedestrian collision incorporating road gradient is derived to evaluate the pre-collision speed of vehicle. It takes into account a few physical variables and parameters of popular wrap and forward projection collisions, which include horizontal distance traveled between primary and secondary impacts with the vehicle, launch angle, center-of-gravity height at launch, distance from launch to rest, pedestrian-ground drag factor, the pre-collision vehicle speed and road gradient. The model including road gradient is derived analytically for reconstruction of pedestrian collision accidents, and evaluates the vehicle speed from the pedestrian throw distance. The model coefficients have physical interpretations and are determined through direct calculation. This work shows that the road gradient has a significant effect on the evaluation of the vehicle speed and must be considered in accident cases with inclined road. In additions, foreign/domestic empirical cases and multibody dynamic simulation results are used to construct a least-squares fitted model that has the same structure of the analytical one that provides an estimate of the vehicle speed based on the pedestrian throw distance and the band within which the vehicle speed would be expected to be in 95% of cases.
