  • In this paper, a mathematical formulation of protection ratio and its calculation method are suggested for a radio relay system with diversity techniques. The analysis of protection ratio and its physical meaning have been performed for the space or frequency diversity system, and in particular protection ratios are reviewed in terms of the parameters of diversity improvement factor, which comprises antenna gain, separation distance between antennas, frequency and its difference between carriers, and distance. As one of simulated results, the co-channel protection ratio of 60 dB is obtained for the space diversity system regarding 6.2 GHz, 60 km, 64-QAM, and 25 m between antennas, which gives 15 dB less than the co-channel protection ratio of the non-space diversity system. In addition, the co-channel protection ratio for the frequency diversity system gives 64 dB in case of frequency offset of 0.5 GHz under the same conditions as the space diversity system, which brings about 11 dB less than the co-channel protection ratio of non-frequency diversity system. In consequency, it is interesting to note that the space diversity system is less sensitive to interference in comparison to the frequency diversity system and provides better quality of service for a given interference.

  • Purpose : The accurate dosimetry of independent collimator equipped for 6MV and 15MV X-ray beam was investigated to search for the optimal correction factor. Materials and Methods : The field size factors, beam quality and dose distribution were measured by using 6MV, 15MV X-ray Field size factors were measured from $3{\times}3cm^2$ to $35{\times}35cm^2$ by using 0.6cc ion chamber (NE 2571) at Dmax. Beam qualities were measured at different field sizes, off-axis distances and depths. Isodose distributions at different off-axis distance using $10\times10cm^2$ field were also investigated and compared with symmetric field. Result: 1) Relative field size factors was different along lateral distance with maximum changes in $3.1\%$ for 6MV and $5\%$ for 15MV. But the field size factors of asymmetric fields were identical to the modified central-axis values in symmetric field, which corrected by off-axis ratio at Dmax. 2) The HVL and PDD was decreased by increasing off-axis distance. PDD was also decreased by increasing depth For field size more than $5{\times}cm^2$ and depth less than 15cm, PDD of asymmetric field differs from that of symmetric one ($0.5\~2\%$ for 6MV and $0.4\~1.4\%$ for 15MV). 3) The measured isodose curves demonstrate divergence effects and reduced doses adjacent to the edge close to the flattening filter center was also observed. Conclusion . When asymmetric collimator is used, calculation of MU must be corrected with off-axis and PDD with a caution of underdose in central axis.

  • Recently, the HSDI (High Speed Direct Injection) diesel engine has been spotlighted as a next generation engine because it has a good potential for high thermal efficiency and fuel economy. This study was carried out to investigate the in-cylinder flow characteristics generated in a HSDI diesel engine with a 4-valve type cylinder head. The four kinds of cylinder head were manufactured to elucidate the effect of intake port geometry on the in-cylinder flow characteristics. The steady flow characteristics such as coefficient of flow rate $(C_{f})$, swirl ratio (Rs), and mass flow rate (m,) were measured by the steady flow test rig and the unsteady flow velocity within a cylinder was measured by PIV. In addition, the in-cylinder flow patterns were visualized by the visualization experiment and these results were compared with simulation results calculated by the commercial CFD code. The steady flow test results indicated that the mass flow rate of the cylinder head with a short distance between the two intake ports is $13\%$ more than that of the other head. However, the non-dimensional swirl ratio is decreased by approximately $15\%$. As a result of in-cylinder flow characteristics obtained by PIV and CFD calculation, we found that the swirl center was eccentric from the cylinder center and the position of swirl center was changed with crank angle. As the piston moves to near the TDC, the swirl center corresponded to the cylinder center and the velocity distribution became uniform. In addition, the results of the calculation are in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • Purpose: This study aims to develop a multi-purpose electron beam irradiation device for preclinical research and material testing using the research electron linear accelerator installed at the Dongnam Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences. Methods: The fabricated irradiation device comprises a dual scattering foil and collimator. The correct scattering foil thickness, in terms of the energy loss and beam profile uniformity, was determined using Monte Carlo calculations. The ion-chamber and radiochromic films were used to determine the reference dose-rate (Gy/s) and beam profiles as functions of the source to surface distance (SSD) and pulse frequency. Results: The dose-rates for the electron beams were evaluated for the range from 59.16 Gy/s to 5.22 cGy/s at SSDs of 40-120 cm, by controlling the pulse frequency. Furthermore, uniform dose distributions in the electron fields were achieved up to approximately 10 cm in diameter. An empirical formula for the systematic dose-rate calculation for the irradiation system was established using the measured data. Conclusions: A wide dose-rate range electron beam irradiation device was successfully developed in this study. The pre-clinical studies relating to FLASH radiotherapy to the conventional level were made available. Additionally, material studies were made available using a quantified irradiation system. Future studies are required to improve the energy, dose-rate, and field uniformity of the irradiation system.

  • The present work is determine to the dose distribution reduced by the insertion of a shielded into a vaginal cylinder around a $\^$60/CO source in brachytherapy, and to the source calibration. It was investigated by measuring the relative dose around a 2.5cm diameter shielded vaginal cylinder in a polystyrene phantom by use of a ionization chamber. Measurements were made with the cylinder unshielded and 0.55cm thick 90$^{\circ}C$ lead shields inserted. Also, the dose distribution compared measurement value with calculation value according to the device manufacturer and the multiple-divided dose tables. A reduction in dose was observed on the unshielded side of the cylinder which increased with distance from the source and it does 4.4% within 1cm from the surface of the cylinder. On the shielded side of the cylinder, the dose at the surface is reduced to about 20.4% of its value without the shield. The effective attenuation factor entered for the 90$^{\circ}C$ lead shielded cylinder was average 0.2 in a $\^$60/CO moving source. In comparision with the dose calculation mathods, the multiple-divided dose tables are difference less than ${\pm}$4.1% with measured data in a $\^$60/Co source.

  • In this study, a model of two-stage Weis-Fogh type water turbine model is proposed, the hydrodynamic characteristics of this water turbine model are calculated by the advanced vortex method. The basic conditions and the motion of each wing are the same as that of the single-stage model previously proposed by the same author. The two wings (NACA0010 airfoils) and both channel walls are approximated by source and vortex panels, and free vortices are introduced from the body surfaces. The distance between the front wing axis and the rear wing axis, and the phase difference between the motion of the two wings, which is in phase and out of phase are set as the calculation parameters. For each case, the unsteady flow fields, pressure fields, force coefficients, and efficiency of the two wings are calculated, and the hydrodynamic characteristics of the proposed water turbine model are discussed.

  • Educating foreigners in Korean language is attracting increasing attention with the growing number of foreigners who want to learn Korean or want to reside in Korea. Existing spell checkers mostly focus on native Korean speakers, so they are inappropriate for foreigners. In this paper, we propose a correction method for the Korean language that reflects the contextual characteristics of Korean and writing characteristics of foreigners. Our method can extract frequently used expressions by Koreans by constructing syllable reverse-index for eojeol bi-gram extracted from corpus as correction candidates, and generate ranked Korean corrections for foreigners with upgraded edit distance calculation. Our system provides a user interface based on keyboard hooking, so a user can easily use the correction system along with other applications. Our system improves the detection rate for foreign language users by about 45% compared to other systems in foreign language writing environments. This will help foreign users to judge and correct their own writing errors.

  • In this paper, the sensitivity compensation method for three-dimensional acoustic intensity probe in the higher frequency range has been studied. The measurement error in the higher frequency range is generated from the phase mismatch between microphone's signals of the probe. If the wavelength of sound signal measured is less than those of the distance between microphones of the probe, that is, the higher frequency of the sound signal, the bigger measurement error is generated. In this study, we proposed the compensation methods for one-dimensional acoustic intensity probe with two-microphones, and the efficiency of those methods were investigated by numerical calculation of computer. It was most effective method to compensate the phase mismatch between microphone for the acoustic intensity probe was investigated for the sound estimated. and the efficiency of this method in a three-dimensional probe was investigated for the sound wave travelling in the arbitrary direction by numerical calculation of computer. In this result, the efficiency was proved that, for the measurement error of 1dB or less with the three-dimensional probe of 60mm space, the frequency should be less than 1.2kHz without the error compensation method, but the frequency increased up to 2.8kHz with the error compensation method.

  • This study proposed a more stable robust recognition algorithm which detects faces reliably even in cases where there are changes in lighting and angle of view, as well it satisfies efficiency in calculation and detection performance. The algorithm proposed detects the face area alone after normalization through pre-processing and obtains a feature vector using (PCA). Also, by applying the feature vector obtained for SVM, face areas can be tested. After the testing, the feature vector is applied to LDA and using Euclidean distance in the 2nd dimension, the final analysis and matching is performed. The algorithm proposed in this study could increase the stability and accuracy of recognition rates and as a large amount of calculation was not necessary due to the use of two dimensions, real-time recognition was possible.

  • A numerical analysis of reactive flow in a liftoff flame is accomplished to elucidate the characteristics of liftoff flame. To verify reliance of numerical calculation, the liftoff heights of liftoff flame for various fuel exit velocities are compared between the existing experimental research results and the present calculation results. The flame propagation velocity is conducted at the flow redirection point which is on a stoichiometric line ahead of flame front. This point was selected constant distance from triple point regardless of fuel exit velocity at the previous research. This causes considerable errors for the flame propagation velocity and scalar dissipation rate. The main issue of the present research is to establish the resonable method to select the redirection point and so that to clarify the relationship between flame propagation velocity and scalar dissipation rate, which is the core properties in a triple flame stability.
