A metallic bond of great strength for the same or dissimilar metals can be produced by the explosive welding. The formation of a metallic jet at the interface between the two impacting plates has been simulated using the numerical hydrocode DYNA2D. The mechanism of explosive welding for the wave formation is also analyzed by the computer simulation technique. The microscopic with the experimentally observed behaviour of the explosive welding. The computer simulations of the explosive welding process have proven especially useful for analyzing the mechanism of metallic bones.

There are about 2.4million disabled in Korea, 2009. Also, Korean society entered into an aging society. Therefore disable and elderly are getting more involved in our society. This study proposes simple ramp design for wheel chair users and welding method and condition for manufacturing. In the middle of ramp, screw jack and motor are installed so that ramp can be moved left and right side. To make the ramp moves easily, ramp was fixed by installing LM guide on both sides. Ramp production for using Nd:YAG laser certain dissimilar welding in stainless steel sheet and cold reduced carbon steel. The output was fixed by 3kW, the speed was increased to 2~7m/min, Argon was used as shielding gas and the flow rate was changed to 10~30L/min. The proper welding condition is the output 3kW and welding speed 2~5m/min.
Resistance spot welding has been widely used in the sheet metal joining processes because of low cost, high productivity and convenience. Recently, automobile and aerospace industries are trying to replace partly steel sheets with aluminum alloy sheets. But in the case of dissimilar materials, to apply resistance spot welding has been known to be very difficult owing to the effect of melting temperature. On this study, an effort was made to apply spot welding of dissimilar sheet metals, 2024 aluminum alloy and zinc coated steel sheet, evaluate the spot weld quality with tensile-shear strength test and nondestructive evaluation technique, C-scan image methodology. In this study results, as the current below 11 kA, melting of materials is not achieved well. Also as the current exceeds to 13.5 kA, the more spatters happen at welded zone and tensile-shear strength lowered. So, the feasibility of C-scan image technique proposed in the study is found to be suitable evaluation method for resistance spot weldability.
In this paper crack propagation analyses in the dissimilar metal weldment of a nozzle were performed using a finite element alternating method (FEAM). A two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element nozzle model was prepared and welding simulation including the thermal heat transfer analysis and the thermal stress analysis was performed. Initial cracks were inserted at weld and heat affected zone in the finite element model which has welding residual stress distribution obtained from the welding simulation. To calculate crack propagation trajectories of these cracks, a new fatigue crack evaluation module was developed in addition to the previous FEAM program. With the new FEAM fatigue crack evaluation module, crack propagation trajectory and crack growth time were calculated automatically and effectively.
In this study, the lap welding between austenitic stainless steel and carbon steel was carried out using arc spot welding process and weldability of welded specimens was estimated. From the tensile-shear strength test, micro Vickers harness test, and microstructure observation, specimen of $psi6.5mm$(hole of upper plate) showed the best results in terms of tensile-shear strength and nugget shape. And there was an unmix zone in fusion boundary between the carbon steel base metal and bulk weld metal. This zone had very width with the hard microstructure. The shape of weld nugget in arc spot welding of dissimilar metal melds was predicted by searching thermal history of a weld joint through a three-dimensional finite element model. From the numerical analysis, predicted the shape of weld nugget showed good agreement with the experiment.
To develop and understand dissimilar metals joining of Stainless steel and Copper, ultra-high speed laser lap welding was studied using single mode fiber laser in this study. SUS304 and Cu have large differences in materials properties, and Cu and Fe have no intermetallic compounds by typical binary phase of Cu and Fe system. In this study, ultra-high speed lap welds of SUS304 and Cu dissimilar metals using single-mode fiber laser was generated, and weldability of the weld fusion zone was evaluated using a tensile shear test. To understand the phenomenon of tensile shear load, weld fusion zone of interface weld area and fracture parts after tensile shear test were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis system. And it was confirmed that Cu was easily melting and penetrating in the grain boundaries of SUS304 because of low melting temperature. And high thermal conductivity of copper occurred dissipate heat energy rapidly. These properties cause the solidification cracking in weld zone.

Dissimilar friction stir welding of aluminum (AI) alloy 1050 and magnesium (Mg) alloy AZ31 was successfully done in the limited welding parameters. The dissimilar weld showed good quality and facility compared to conventional fusion weld. Transverse cross section perpendicular to the welding direction had no defects. The weld was divided into base material of Al alloy, an irregular shaped stir zone and base material of Mg alloy. The irregular shaped stir zone was roughly located around the initial weld center. The weld interface near plate surface shifted from initial weld centerline to the advancing side. Hardness profile of the weld was heterogeneous, and the hardness value of the stir zone was raised to about 150 Hv to 250 Hv. The mixed phase was identified to intermetallic compound $Mg_{17}$Al$_{12}$ using x-ray diffraction method, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and electron probe micro analysis (EPMA). The formation of intermetallic compound $Mg_{17}$Al$_{12}$ during FSW causes the remarkable increase in hardness value in the stir zone.one.
This study was performed to develop repair technology for J-Groove dissimilar metal weld of pressurizer heater sleeve in nuclear power plants. Pad, J-Groove automatic welding and mechanical machining equipments to develop repair technology using 'Half Nozzle Repair' were designed and manufactured. To obtain the optimum welding process parameters during Pad temperbead overlay welding, several welding experiments using Taguchi method were conducted. Weldability of Pad overlay weld specimens was estimated by PT/RT test, FE-SEM, EDS and Vickers hardness test. Also, J-Groove welding to adjust weld shape conditions requiring in ASME Code was carried out and its integrity of weld specimens was evaluated through PT/RT test and optical microscope. Consequently, it was revealed that Pad and J-Groove overlay welding for dissimilar metal weld of pressurizer heater sleeve could be possible to meet Code standard without weld defect.
Distributions of residual stress in diffusion bonding of dissimilar materials intermetallics TiAl to steel 40Cr were simulated by FEM calculation. Results showed that destructive residual stresses presented in the minute area adjacent to bond-line of the base material with smaller coefficient of thermal expansion. Reducing bonding temperature and diminishing bonding time are in favor of the mollification of interface tresses.
his paper aimed to understand the residual stress in the dissimilar metal welds of nuclear power plant. Two kinds of residual stress were considered, which caused by welding and machining. Residual stress due to mechanical machining was measured by hole-drilling technique and x-ray diffraction method for the SA508 and F316L. Weld residual stress at dissimilar metal weld between SA508 and F316L was evaluated by FEA. Residual stress profiles were obtained for the inside surface and through thickness of welds. Machining effect was also analyzed by FEA. According to the residual stress measurement, it was observed that mechanical machining can generate tensile stress on the surface of the test material. However, FEA results showed that mechanical machining did not increase the tensile stress on the surface of weld region. Further study with more elaborate measurement and numerical analysis is required to identify the effect of machining on residual stress in the dissimilar metal weld region.
