마그네슘합금과 철강 이종소재의 레이저 브레이징 특성에 미치는 도금층의 영향 (Effects of the Types of Coating on the Laser Brazing Characteristics of Dissimilar Joints between Mg Alloy and Steel Sheet)

  • The dissimilar welding between magnesium alloy and steel sheet was required in automobile industry to increase the strength of the dissimilar joints. Laser brazing is one of the good joining processes for Mgsteel dissimilar joint. In this study, the effect of coating materials was evaluated on the laser brazing for the dissimilar joint between AZ31 and coated steels such as Zn, Sn and Ni. Diode direct laser was used to braze the lap-edge joint with Mg600 filler wire and Superior #21 flux. The wettability was best on Zn coated steel. The interlayer was formed at the interface between brazement and steel for all coating materials. The strengths of brazed specimen were 146.5N/mm, 204.6N/mm and 101.6N/mm for Zn, Sn and Ni coated steel respectively.

  • There is problem to reduce the car body weight for improving fuel consumption and $CO_2$ generation. As one of the solution, the multi material car body concept using aluminum alloys and high strength steels is proposed recently. Therefore, new welding processes by which these dissimilar material can be joined in high reliability and productivity are demanded. Laser spot welding was developed for joining of dissimilar metals. In the present work, Laser spot welding of zinc coated steel and aluminum alloy was investigated, and the process parameters were studied. Otherwise, the influences of process parameters on the weldability, the formation of intermetallic compound layer and the mechanical properties have been investigated. When intermetallic compound layer thickness was more than 1mm, specimen was failure in the interface.

  • Thermal and mechanical characteristics in dissimilar SS400-STS304 steel weldment have been investigated by 3D thermal elastic-plastic analysis. Moreover, the influence of welding residual stresses on the mechanical behaviour of this welded joint, by applying superimposed external load (tension load) was determined. The residual stresses obtained by numerical simulation were compared with the experimentally measured results. The FE results were in good agreement with the measured values. The mechanical test (hardness, tensile test) and metallurgical analysis was carried out to ensure the weld integrity. Hence, possibility of applying SS400-STS304 dissimilar steels in industries has been established.

  • Plunger (piston rod) materials are used in high-pressure condition. So STD11 is the essential material to build this plunger. However, it costs more to make a plunger by using only STD11 than using the welding of STD11 to SCM440 and other dissimilar material. And it has been difficult to weld this sort of dissimilar materials. They could be unstable in the quality by the conventional arc welding. And also they have a lot of technical problems in manufacturing. But, by the friction welding technique, it will be able to be made without such problems. And then, on account of such reasons, we need a new approach of study on real-time quality evaluation by acoustic emission (AE) techniques as well as a domestic development of the plunger by friction welding. So that, the purpose of this study for such developments is the development of a plunger by optimizing of friction welding with more reliability and more applicability. Then, this study aimed not only to develop the optimization of friction welding of dissimilar plunger steels of STD11 to SCM440, but also to develop the application technique of the acoustic emission to accomplish an in-process real-time quality evaluation during friction welding of the plunger materials by the AE technique.

  • In this paper, the real-time prediction of high temperature creep life was carried out for the friction welded joints of dissimilar heat resisting steels(SUH3-SUH35). Various life prediction methods such as LMP(Larson-Miller Parameter) and ISM(initial strain method) were applied : The creep behaviors of those steels and the welds under static load were examined by ISM combined with LMP at 500, 600 and $700^{\circ}C$, and the relationship between these two methods was investigated. A real-time creep life( $t_{r}$ , hr) prediction equation by initial strain($\varepsilon$$_{0}$ , %) under any creep stress ($\sigma$, MPa) at any high temperature(T, K) was developed as follows : $t_{r}$ =$\alpha$$\varepsilon$$_{0}$ $^{\beta}$$\sigma$$^{1}$ where, (equation omitted) for SUH3-SUH35 friction weld of =16mm and =20mm, respectively.

A real-time creep lie (tr, hr) prediction equation by initial strain (${\varepsilon}_0$, %) under any creep stress ($\sigma$, MPa) at any high temperature (T, K) was developed as follows: $t_r={\alpha}{\varepsilon}_0^{\beta}{\sigma}^{-1}$ where, ${\phi}=16: {\alpha}=10^{51.412-0.104T+5.375{\times}10^5T^2}$, $ {\beta}=-83.989+0.180T-9.957{\times}10^{-5}T^2,{\phi}=20:$ ${\alpha}=10^{69.910-0.146T+7.744{\times}10^{-5}T^2$, ${\beta}=-51.442+0.105T-5.595{\times}10^{-5}T^2$ for SUH3-SUH35 friction weld of =16mm and 20mm, respectively.

  • The engine exhaustive valve became essential as the important element. The dissimmilar welding method of exhaustive valve head to stem was asked for manufacturing the engine exhaustive valve, for which the electric resistance are welding has been conventionally used, resulting in poor quality of the welded joint. In this paper, not only the development of optimizing of friction welding with more reliability and more applicability but also the development of in-process real-time weld qudlity(such as strength and toughness) evaluation technique by acoustic emission for friction welding of the engine exhaustive valve(SUH3-SUH35 dissimilar steels) were perfomed. The high temperature(500, 500, 600$^{circ}$C) creep properties prediction of the friction welded joint of SUH3-SUH35 was investigated relating to the initial strain meethod(ISM) as a new approach, resulting in obtaining an experimental equation of creep life prediction.

  • Up to now, most of studies on mechanical properties in friction welded components are about tensile and bending strength. However the fatigue studies on the friction-welded components subjected to repeated stress are not available. The purposes of this study are the development of fundamental design and the development of in-process real-time weld quality evaluation technique by acoustic emission for the bar-to-bar dissimilar friction welding of hydraulic valve spool steels.

  • In this paper, the real-time prediction of high temperature creep life was carried out for the friction welded joints of dissimilar heat resistintg steels (CulCr0.5Zr-STS316L). Various life prediction methods such as LMP (Larson-Miller Parameter) and ISM (initial strain method) were applied. The creep behaviors of those steels and the welds under static load were examined by ISM combined with LMP at 300, 400 and 50$0^{\circ}C$, and the relationship between these two methods was investigated.
