  • In case of an embedded system with computing resource restrictions such as system power and cpu, the overhead due to displaying data on the computer screen may have a significant influence on the system performance. This paper describes an initialization method for LCD-driving components such as an ARM Core, an LCD controller, and an SPI(serial peripheral interface). It also introduces a pixel display function and a panel display method using virtual screen for reducing the display overhead for an LN2440SBC system with an ARM9-based S3C2440A microprocessor. A virtual screen is a large space of computer memories allocated much larger than those needed for one-time display of an image. Displaying a specific region of a virtual screen is done by assigning it as a view-port region. Such a display is useful in an embedded system when concurrently running tasks produce and display their respective results on the screen; it is especially so when the execution result of each task is partially modified, instead of being totally modified, on its turn and displayed. If the tasks running on such a system divide and make efficient use of the region of the virtual screen, the display overhead can be minimized. For the performance comparison with and without using the virtual screen, two different images are displayed in turn and the amount of time consumed for their display is measured. The result shows that the display time of the former is about 5 times faster than that of the latter.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the immediate effects of posture correction and real-time visual feedback using a video display on muscle activity and change of head position during overhead arm lift test in individuals with forward head posture. Methods: Fifteen subjects with forward head posture and fifteen normal subjects who volunteered were included in this study. During both groups performed the overhead arm lift test, the muscle activity of the upper trapezius, serratus anterior, sternocleidomastoid, and lower trapezius muscle were measured using electromyography, and head position change was measured using photographs. Then, forward head posture group was asked to perform overhead arm lift test again after posture correction and real-time visual feedback using a video display respectively. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze four conditions: pre-test, posture correction, real-time visual feedback, and the control group. Results: The upper trapezius and lower trapezius muscle activity significantly decreased posture correction, real-time visual feedback, and control group than pre-test of forward head posture group (p<0.05). The sternocleidomastoid muscle significantly decreased real-time visual feedback and control group than pre-test of forward head posture group. Head position change significantly decreased three conditions than pre-test of forward head posture group and real-time visual feedback and control group significantly decreased than posture correction. Conclusion: This study recommend for maintaining cervical stability during the overhead arm lift test, postural control using real-time visual feedback is more effective in subjects with forward head posture.

  • SRAM cell array and peripheral circuits on display panel are designed using LTPS process. To overcome low yield of SOP, high speed parallel fault detection circuitry for memory cells is designed at local I/O lines with minimal overhead for efficient memory cell redundancy replacement. Normal read/write and parallel test read/write are simulated and verified.

  • With increasing interest in the reduction of cost for operation and maintenance of overhead catenary system, various methods of condition monitoring have been developed and used in with high-speed analysis and advanced image processing techniques. This study utilizes a high-speed camera as inspecting system to measure the wear, stagger, hight and arc extinguishing test of overhead catenary system. All measuring image were captured by a high speed CMOS camera with PCI express output, which can acquire up to 1000 frames per second with the resolution 1024 × 1280 pixels. Line type laser source with a power equal to 300 mW and the National Instrument LabVIEW (8.0) based on vision acquisition software have been used in application programming interface for image acquisition, display, and storage. The proposed high-speed camera system is finally applied to measure the overhead catenary system showing promising on-field applications

  • In this paper, a simple but effective Dataline Redundancy Circuit (DRC) is proposed for a dual-port 1T-SRAM embedded in Display ICs. The DRC designed in the dual-port $320{\times}120{\times}18$-bit 1T-SRAM is verified in a 0.18-um CMOS 1T-SRAM process. In the DRC, because its control logic circuit can be implemented by a simple Shift Logic Circuit (SLC) with only an inverter and a NAND that is much simpler than the conventional, it can be placed in a pitch as narrow as a bit line pair. Moreover, an improved version of the SLC is also proposed to reduce its worst-case delay from 12.3ns to 5.9ns by 52%. By doing so, the timing overhead of the DRC can be hidden under the row cycle time because switching of the datalines can be done between the times of the word line setup and the sense amplifier setup. The area overhead of the DRC is estimated about 7.6% in this paper.

  • We propose an optical-based measuring instrument of catenary system in electric railway. This system was made to utilize line scan camera as inspecting system to measure the stagger and height of overhead contact wire in railway and composed with optical type source and FPGA-based image acquisition system with PCI slot. Vision acquisition software has been used for the application to programming interface for image acquisition, display, and storage with a frequency of sampling. To check the validity of our approach for the intended application, we monitored height and stagger in the overhead wire of a high-speed catenary system in Korea. The proposed optical-based measuring instrument to measure the contact wire geometry such as the hight and stagger shows promising on-field applications for online condition motoring. We expect that a new generation of real-time instruments with demanding various conditions motoring requirement in railway can be easily integrated into optical-based measuring instrument system.

  • In this paper, we propose a method that can compensate the geometric distortions of image caused from an arbitrary nonflat display surface(or wall) under the environment of portable overhead projector without a flat screen. In the proposed method, we first project a grid pattern to an arbitrary nonflat display surface and then derive an equation of straight line that represents the geometry relationship between the distorted grid pattern and the original grid pattern. Next, after determining the proper size of the original grid pattern according to the form of the display surface, we generate a compensation pattern from the derived equation of straight line, which can symmetrically compensate for the distorted image. Finally, we compensate for the geometric distortions of the projected image by segmenting the real image to be projected from portable overhead projector and prewarping it according to the compensation pattern. To evaluate the proposed method, we performed experiments of image compensation on inclined surface, bent surface and curved surface that are frequently occurred in the environment of portable overhead projector without a flat screen. From the experimental results, we found that the proposed method could be very effective in compensating for the general types of the geometric distortions of the projected images.
