The plasma tube array display is expected to realize the wall size display with very high luminous efficacy. The cell design for high luminous efficacy was investigated. Also discharging in plasma tube was observed to investigate the structure for high luminous efficacy. As the result, high luminous efficacy of 5.4 lm/W was achieved.

Satellite ground track display computer program is designed and implemented for the KOMPSAT-2 mission operations. Digitized world map and detailed Korean map is realized with zoom and pan capability. The program supports real-time ground trace and off-line satellite image planning on the world map. Satellite mission timeline is also displayed with the satellite ground track for the visualized mission operations. In this paper, the satellite ground track display is described in the aspect of the functional requirements, design, and implementation.

In this paper, a general performance of the PSS-LCD or Polarization Shielded Smectic Liquid Crystal Display is discussed. This smectic base LCD does not use any spontaneous polarization, but uses induced polarization just sa me with current nematic base LCDs. Specific initial molecular alignment as well as specific cell design realizes ext remely fast optical response speed with native wide viewing angle. Moreover, this performance is provided by full compatible electronics for current conventional LCDs. A general performance of the PSS-LCD is introduced herein.

Although the picture quality of today's displays is very good already, a continuous improvement is desirable as the new larger display sizes increase the visibility of artifacts. A contributing factor for picture quality enhancement through smart video processing and algorithm design is the information gathered from video statistics. Interesting parameters gathered from video statistics are e.g. the image- and display load, the usage of the color gamut, the estimated power consumption and the occurrence of static image parts. Examples of applications that can benefit from video statistics are power calculations, color gamut mapping algorithms, dynamic backlight control for LCD panels and LED backlights for LCD panels.

Polymerization induced diffusion has been successfully applied to create new display components. Based on this principle a new technique to produce polymer covered liquid crystal layers on a single substrate, called photo-enforced stratification, allows cost-effective production of ultra-thin LCDs. The two-step photopolymerization-induced phase separation of a liquid crystal and a polymer precursor can be performed on a variety of substrates and provides freedom in display design.

For the evaluation of the plasma display panel (PDP)'s noise, vibration and sound characteristics of fanless PDP are measured and investigated. PDP is a type of two-electrode vacuum tube which operatres on the same principle as a household fluorescent light. An inert gas such as argon or neon is injected between two glass plates on which transparent electrodes have been formed, and the glass is illuminated by generating discharge. (omitted)

This paper describes the development of the 3DDAC mk.4 system, which is a brand new implementation on the research program. The 3DDAC is a fatigue-less stereoscopic display system that is provided with a compensating function of accommodation for binocular disparity 3D image representation. The mk.4 system also features a light-weight HMD style.

To find the optimal expansion of the color gamut of a display, we investigated various 4-primary display systems based on DLP. Via comparing the volume of the color gamut in a 3-D uniform color space CIELUV, the best 4-primary system on the premise of keeping the existing three primaries is brought forward.

반사형 STN-LCD (supertwisted nematic liquid crystal display) 는 많은 display에서 사용되고 있는 LCD mode 중의 하나이다. 그러나 현재 많이 사용되는 반사형 STN-LCD는 그림 1과 같이 한 장의 polarizer와 두장의 retardation film을 사용하는 구조이므로 각각의 component에 대한 parameter들에 의해 display의 표시 성능이 좌우된다. 먼저 Reflective STN-LCD의 보상에 필요한 parameter를 살펴보면, 그림 1과 같이 5개 ( $\alpha$, ø$_1$, ø$_2$, 각 retarder의 retardation : Δnd$_1$, Δnd$_2$)의 parameter의 결정이 필요하다. In this paper we proposed a new electrode design to get an enhanced luminous efficiency in AC PDP. The width and shape of the TTO electrode were varied, and the electro-optical properties such as luminance, power consumption, luminous efficiency were estimated with the variation of frequency, duty ratio and applied voltage. The discharge characteristics were investigated to explain the effect of the new electrode structure on the electro-optical properties.
