  • We studied the basic properties and fabrication of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) prepared using eco-friendly reduction agents in the graphene solution process. Hydrazine is generally used to reduce graphene oxide (GO), which results in polluting emissions as well as fixed nitrogen functional groups on different defects in the graphene sheets. To replace hydrazine, we developed eco-friendly reduction agents with similar or better reducing properties, and selected of them for further analysis. In this study, GO layers were produced from graphite flakes using a modified Hummer's method, and rGO layers were reduced using hydrazine hydrate, L-ascorbic acid, and gluconic acid. We measured the particle sizes and the dispersion stabilities in the rGO dispersed solvents for the three agents and analyzed the structural, electrical, and optical properties of the rGO films. The results showed that the degree of reduction was in the order L-ascorbic acid ${\geq}$ hydrazine > glucose. GO reduced using L-ascorbic acid had a sheet resistance of $121k{\Omega}/sq$, while that reduced using gluconic acid showed worse electrical properties than the other two reduction agents. Therefore, L-ascorbic acid is the most suitable eco-friendly reduction agent that can be substituted for hydrazine.

  • The water-based ink has lately attracted considerable attention because of problems of energy and population. Carbon blacks have been widely utilized in water-based systems to provide pigmentation. One of the most important factors in the successful formulation of an aqueous system containing carbon black is the dispersion and the selection and proper utilization of the dispersing agent. This is similar to water-based ink. This paper discusses dispersion of carbon black with the factors affecting the dispersing agent requirement (DAR) and describes a laboratory method for determining it. Variables that affect the dispersion, such as structure, surface area, and oxidation level of the carbon black are examined through test data. Anionic and nonionic dispersing agents are evaluated using the DAR method. From this study, the increased surface area, the increased DAR is indicated. DAR is indicated to depend on HLB(Hydrophilic Lipophilic Balance) of dispersing agent and pH of dispersing system.

  • It has been used that fluorinated compounds could be applied to cosmetic products. It is that fluorinated conpounds are hydrophobicity and lipophobicity. These fluorinated compounds are reported to form a highly protective and effective film against most aggressive chemical and physical agents. PerfluropolymethyoisopropylEther has homophobicity and are colorless, odorless, tasteless and non-greasy. In this we made a success to formulate the new type of hand care cream using PFPE. PFPE are suitable thickness and chemical inertness to skin. The reason that we select PFPE for this investigation. We developed the new type hand care cream by adsorption and dispersion of PFPE. There are very stable dispersion and highly moisture diffusion control. And these characteristics were verified by actual consumer test.

  • Magnesium hydroxide as a non-halogen flame retardant has increasing attention due to its non-toxicity, high decomposition temperature and smoke suppressant ability during combustion. For the application of magnesium hydroxide retardant to the textile by soaking and coating method, the prerequisite for the coating is a small particle size, stable dispersion, and adhesion to the textile. The dispersion of $Mg(OH)_2$ particles and stability of the coating was checked by monitoring the change of transmittance and backscattering by varying the types of dispersion agents, binder, solvent, and $Mg(OH)_2$ source, and their compositions in the coating. The $Mg(OH)_2$ dispersion coating was applied to PET(poly(ethylene terephthalate)) non-woven textile. The physical properties are characterized by surface morphology, amount of coating, particle dispersion, and adhesion test. The flame retardant $Mg(OH)_2$ coated textile has been compared by limited oxygen index(LOI) and thermal gravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry(TG-DSC). It was found that phosphorous additive may give synergistic effect on $Mg(OH)_2$ flame retardant coating to make the flame retardant PET non-woven textile.

  • The phenomenon of decrease in sizing efficiency when the stock temperature is increased is well recognized as summer sizing, and this is believed to be caused by uneven distribution of sizing agents on paper surface most often incurred by coagulation of sizing agents. When unevenly sized paper is used as coating base stock, nonuniform consolidation of the coating layer may result, which, in turn, causes uneven distribution of binder on coating surface. This causes nonuniform ink absorption to produce print mottle. In this study the effects of simple or polymeric electrolytes, storage temperature and time on the coagulation of cationic dispersed rosin size were investigated using a turbidity measurement method which was verified to correlate well with the particle size of rosin emulsion or its coagulates. Handsheets sized with rosin dispersions coagulated under various conditions were prepared and their sizing degree and coated paper properties including gloss and ink density were examined. The relationship between the sizing nonuniformity of coated papers and its ink absorption property was evaluated. Turbidity of rosin emulsion increased as the storage temperature and time were increased. Addition of simple or polymeric electrolytes caused reduction in $zeta$ -potential of the rosin dispersion and accelerated the coagulation tendency substantially. Reversion of the $zeta$ -potential of rosin dispersion, however, did not occur when coagulation was induced with simple electrolytes. On the other hand, addition of an anionic polyelectrolyte reversed the $zeta$ -potential of the flocculated rosin dispersion. This indicated that electrical double layer compaction and bridging flocculation were coagulation mechanisms for simple and polymeric electrolytes, respectively. Sizing degree decreased as coagulation of rosin was increased. Paper gloss, ink gloss and ink density were increased when sizing degree of base stock was increased most probably due to prevention of base paper swelling and increased binder migration to coating surface. This suggested that uneven printing ink density occurred when uneven sizing development was induced by coagulation of rosin particles.

  • Polyurethane(PU) prepolymers were prepared from polyol and diisocyanate. Unionized PU prepolymers were synthesized from poly(propylene glycol)(PPG, MW: 1000), 2,2-bis (hydroxymethyl) propionic acid(DMPA), and isophorone diisocyanate(IPDI) by prepolymer syhthesizing process. After PU prepolymers were dispersed into water, the physical properties were investigated by changing the molar ratio of polyol and diisocyanate. The results showed a stable state with the best physical properties when the prepolymer was composed of PPG/DMPA with hard segment=40%, NCO%=3.43%, [NCO]: [OH]=1.5: 1.0 in molar ratio, and was dispersed into water with 30% solid content. PU prepolymers also were synthesized with various molar ratio of PPG and DMPA. Upon higher molar ratio of DMPA, particle size of polyurethane dispersion(PUD) gradually decreased. PU-prepolymers prepared from the various blocking agents represented characteristic initial deblocking temperatures that depended on the blocking agents, and the beginning of deblocking occured within 30 mins on all the blocking agents used.

  • In this study, zinc oxide (ZnO) nano powder, well known as an UV absorbing material, was synthesized with three synthetic conditions by the hydrothermal method. After ZnO nano powder was surface-modified with various silane coupling agents to improve dispersion property, a dispersion sol was prepared with dispersant for 72 h by the ball-milling of surface-modified ZnO nano powder. The dispersion sol, prepared by modifying the surface of the ZnO nano powder with an average size of about 30 nm using 3-chloropropyl trimethoxy silane, showed an excellent dispersion stability with a high UV-shielding and visible trnasparency.

  • In order to develop an intelligent delivery system for cosmetic active agents (e.g., arbutin, ascorbic acid, and adenosine), pH-responsive P(MAA-co-PEGMA) hydrogel particles having an average size of approx. $2{\mu}m$ and spherical shape were synthesized via dispersion photopolymerization. There was a drastic change in the swelling ratio of P (MAA-co-PEGMA) hydro gels at a pH 5, which is the $pK_a$ of the hydrogel. To determine the factors that have an effect on the loading of cosmetic active agents into the hydrogel, the loading efficiency of the active agents was investigated at various MAA and EG compositions of the hydrogel and the loading pH conditions. When the MAA contents in the hydrogel decreased, the loading efficiency of the active agents increased. In loading experiments with different pH conditions, the active agents showed higher loading efficiency into the hydrogel at the pH where the hydrogel was at the swollen state than at the pH where the electrostatic repulsion was minimized.

  • Acyclovir (ACV) is one of the most effective and selective agents against viruses of the herpes group. Because of low solubility, bioavailability of ACV has shown below 30% with oral dosage form. In our previous study, we reported that the fabrication of solid dispersion of ACV was possible and the solid dispersion of ACV and PVP was the most useful in all samples. In this study, we examined the effect of mixture ratio of polymers (PEG and PVP) to ACV. Solubility of ACV was dramatically increased up to 25 mg/ml in $80^{\circ}C$ distilled water. So water was used as a solvent to eliminate problem of residual solvent. Spray drying method was used for the solid dispersion of ACV as solvent extraction. Different scanning calorimeter was used to check degradation of drug. Polymer carriers were PEG 6,000 and PVP. In summary, ACV-PVP (1:3) showed the best solubility in distilled water.

  • The purpose of this study was to improve the properties of epoxy resin using titanium oxide nanoparticles. The effects of particle weight fraction, dispersion agent, and curing agents with different molecular weights on the thermal and mechanical properties of titanium-oxide-reinforced epoxy resin were investigated. In addition, the effect of the particle dispersion condition on the mechanical properties of nanocomposites was studied. As a result, it was found that the glass transition temperature of film-shaped nanocomposites decreased with an in-crease in the nanoparticle content. Because nanoparticles interrupted the cross linkage between the epoxy resin and the amine curing agent, the cross-link density of the epoxy became lower and led to a decrease in $T_g$ in the nanocompo-sites. The tensile strength and modulus in film-shaped nanocomposites also increased with the particles content. But in the case of dog-bone-shaped nanocomposites, the values were not similar to the trend for the film-shaped nanocompo-sites. This was probably a result of the different nanoparticles dispersions in the epoxy resins resulting from the respective-thicknesses of the film and dog-bone-shaped samples.
