  • Recently, macroporous ceramic materials with high electrical conductivity and mechanical strength are urgently needed for semiconductor and display manufacturing devices. In this work, we obtained electro-conducting macroporous aluminosilicate ceramics having surface resistivity of 108~1,010 ohm by dispersing electro-conducting carbon in ceramic matrix. By addition of 0.5~3.0 wt% frit glass, chemical bonding between grains was strengthened, and flexural strength was enhanced up to 160 MPa as a result. We evaluated the characteristics of present ceramics as vacuum chuck module for liquid crystal display display manufacturing devices.

  • This paper describes on the fabrication of Fe-Co hydrophilic magnetic fluids from the waste pickling liquor of steel. By adding with HNO$_3$in the waste liquor oxidation is proceeded from Fe$^{3+}$ion at 6$0^{\circ}C$ with air blowing. Ultra-fine Co-ferrite particles with the mean particle size of 50 $\AA$ were produced at pH 12 after adjusting the ratio of Fe$^{3+}$Co$^{2+}$=7/3(wt%) and Fe-Co particles with the mean particle size of 94 $\AA$ were produced by reducing the Co-ferrite particle with H$_2$at the temperature of 50$0^{\circ}C$. After triple adsorption of oleic acid dodecyl benzene sulfonate(D.B.S.) and tetra methyl ammonium(T.M.A.) ions on the surface of Fe-Co particles Fe-Co hydrophilic magnetic fluid was produced by dispersing the Fe-Co particles in ethylene glycol solution. The magnetization of the Fe-Co hydrophilic magnetic fluid increased with increasing the Fe-Co concentration. The magnetic fluid containing 70% (g/cc) Fe-Co showed 73 emu/g in magnetization at the magnetic intensity of 10 kOe.kOe.e.

  • Honeycomb-patterned polyvinypyrrolidone (PVP) thin films coated with nanometer-sized silver particles were prepared using honeycomb-patterned polystyrene (PS) template films fabricated by casting a polystyrene solution under humid condition. Silver was first metallized on the patterned PS films via silver nitrate ($AgNO_3$) reduction using tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) and a small amount of PVP as the reductant and dispersing agent, respectively. The effects of $AgNO_3$, TTF, and PVP solution concentrations during the reduction process in acetonitrile were determined to obtain a uniform silver-coated honeycomb-patterned PS film. Second, the silver-metallized patterned porous PS films were filled with high PVP concentration solutions via the spincoating process. Silver-coated patterned PVP films were obtained by peeling off the PVP layer from the template PS film after drying. The results show that the honeycomb-patterned PVP films uniformly coated with silver particles are conveniently obtained using the silver-coated patterned PS template, although the direct fabrication of these films using water droplets under humid conditions was not feasible because of the water solubility of PVP.

  • This study introduces a new method of combining Imaging Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (Imaging-DOAS) data and plume dispersion formulas for power plant emissions to determine the three-dimensional structure of a dispersing pollution plume and the spatial distributions of trace gas volume mixing ratios (VMRs) under conditions of negligible water droplet and aerosol effects on radiative transfer within the plume. This novel remote-sensing method, applied to a power plant stack plume, was used to calculate the two-dimensional distributions of sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$) and nitrogen dioxide ($NO_2$) VMRs in stack emissions for the first time. High $SO_2$ VMRs were observed only near the emission source, whereas high $NO_2$ VMRs were observed at locations several hundreds of meters away from the initial emission. The results of this study demonstrate the capability of this new method as a tool for estimating plume dimensions and trace gas VMRs in power plant emissions.

  • In this research, dilute colloidal suspension alumina nanofluids were prepared by dispersing alumina nanoparticles in DI water and ethylene glycol as base fluids. Particle size analyzer and TEM test results revealed that the size of the alumina nanofluids(3wt% and 5wt%) with dispersion time 3hrs were 46nm and 60nm respectively. Thermal conductivity of these alumina nanofluids was measured by means of hot wire technique using a LAMBDA system. For water based alumina nanofluids, thermal conductivity enhancement was from 2.29% to 3.06% with 5wt% alumina at temperatures ranging from 15 to $40^{\circ}C$. Whereas in case of ethylene glycol based alumina nanofluids under the same temperature range, thermal conductivity enhancement was from 9.6% to 10% with 5wt% alumina. An enhancement of 37% average convective heat transfer was achieved with 5wt% alumina nanofluids at Re of 1,100.

  • This report describes the effectiveness of mahaenggamseog-tang(麻杏甘石湯) on the patients who suffered from atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. We administered mahaenggamseog-tang with heat-clearing and lung-dispersing(淸熱宣肺) effect to two dermatitis patients who showed sweating with panting(汗出而喘), vexation and thirst(煩渴), aversion to heat(惡熱), agitation(煩燥), swelling of the face and eyes(面目浮腫). The severity of dermatitis was evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS), pictures, SCORAD index(case 1), PASI(case 2). After the treatment, VAS/SCORAD index of case 1 changed from 9/71.5 to 0/6.1; VAS/PASI of case 2 from 8/36.8 to 1/6.8. Mahaenggamseog-tang could improved the symptoms of atopic dermatitis and psoriasis in this study. This study offers an approach to managing chronic dermatitis more effectively using Mahaenggamseog-tang which used mainly for bronchial diseases and obesity.

  • Multiple additives can help improve the performance of generally used lubricants. These additives include MoS2, cadmium, chloride, indium, sulfide, and phosphide, which are harmful to both humans and the environment. Thus, researchers in this industry have been trying to reduce the use of these additives by finding alternatives. Nanodiamonds are one of these candidates. Nanodiamond particles are very hard, chemically stable, and highly heat-conductive. This research involved uniformly dispersing nanodiamond particles in marine engine oils via a matrix synthesis method at various concentrations (0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 1.0 wt). Friction and wear tests involved constant loads on ball-on-disk specimens, where the ball was AISI 51200 steel, the disk was AISI 1020 steel, and the sliding speed was 0.217 m/s. The lowest wear occurred at a suitable concentration of nanodiamonds (0.3 wt). However, excessive amounts of nanodiamonds caused them to act as abrasive debris because of their hardness, which increased the wear amount. The friction coefficient decreased as the nanodiamond concentration increased because their octagonal, almost spherical shape caused them to act as rolling contact elements between two surfaces.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to provide biomechanical basis data for the analysis of the maximum vertical ground reaction force, the maximum plantar pressure, the average plantar pressure, and the contact area according to the type of the insole through the insole insertion type foot pressure gauge. Method: In the treadmill, the slope was set at 10%, the first type A was worn at a walking speed of 3.5 km / h, and then walking was carried out using B, C, and D types. Data from 20 boots with consistent walking were extracted and plantar pressure data were collected and analyzed. Results: Functional insole was more effective than conventional insole for maximum vertical ground reaction force, maximum plantar pressure, average plantar pressure, and contact area at 10% of treadmill ramps. Conclusion: In this study, D-type insole supports the cushion in the middle part and supports the heel cup with hardness in the hind part, so that it is the most effective insole by lowering the plantar pressure and dispersing it more widely.

  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) coatings were made using an ITO slurry and an ITO sol. This was achieved by dispersing nanosized ITO powder in a mixed solvent without any dispersant and developing an adhesive ITO sol from indium acetate and tin tetrachloride in a mixture of DMF and n-butanol. Coating was carried out in one step by spin coating an ITO slurry, which was then followed by an ITO sol over it. Here, the sol penetrates into the nano ITO particle layers to make them adhere to each other as well as to a glass substrate. This is then followed by sintering at 500$^{\circ}C$ for 1 h to produce a uniform film consisting of ITO particles of about 50 nm and 10 nm. ITO films were obtained with sheet resistances from 450 to 1500 ohm/${\Box}$ by varying spin speed and concentration. Transmittance is higher than 90% at 550 nm.

  • This paper presents the experimental investigation into a new type of steel-concrete hybrid outrigger system developed for the high-rise building structure. The steel truss is embedded into the reinforced concrete outrigger wall, and both the steel truss and concrete outrigger wall work compositely to enhance the overall structural performance of the tower structures under extreme loads. Meanwhile, metal dampers of low-yield steel material were also adopted as a 'fuse' device between the hybrid outrigger and the column. The damper is engineered to be 'scarified' and yielded first under moderate to severe earthquakes in order to protect the structural integrity of important structural components of the hybrid outrigger system. As such, not brittle failure is likely to happen due to the severe cracking in the concrete outrigger wall. A comprehensive experimental research program was conducted into the structural performance of this new type of hybrid outrigger system. Studies on both the key component and overall system tests were conducted, which reveal the detailed structural response under various levels of applied static and cyclic loads. It was demonstrated that both the steel bracing and concrete outrigger wall are able to work compositely with the low-yield steel damper and exhibits both good load carrying capacities and energy dispersing performance through the test program. It has the potential to be applied and enhance the overall structural performance of the high-rise structures over 300 m under extreme levels of loads.
