The ultra-drawing process of an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) gel film was examined by incorporating linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and $BaTiO_3$ nanoparticles. The effects of LLDPE and the draw ratios on the morphological development and mechanical properties of the nanocomposite membrane systems were investigated. By incorporating $BaTiO_3$ nanoparticles in the UHMWPE/LLDPE blend systems, the ultra-drawing process provided a highly extended, fibril structure of UHMWPE chains to form highly porous, composite membranes with well-dispersed nanoparticles. The ultra-drawing process of UHMWPE/LLDPE dry-gel films desirably dispersed the highly loaded $BaTiO_3$ nanoparticles in the porous membrane, which could be used to form multi-layered structures for electronic applications in various embedded, printed circuit board (PCB) systems.
As a second part of the comparison study, microscopic features of an air-assisted fuel injector(AAFI) and a high-pressure swirl injector (HPSI) were characterized. They consist of the internal spray structure in terms of fuel mass and drop diameter, the overall atomization performance with respect to operating parameters and the drop size distribution. Large droplets are concentrated in around the head part of a spray field of the HPSI, while in the case of the AAFI, they were distributed in the tail part. Although the AAFI showed the better atomization performance, the feasible ranges of operating parameters such as injection and ambient pressure were found to be wider in the HPSI. Drop size distribution of the AAFI sprays was more dispersed than that of the HPSI. Drop size distribution of the AAFI sprays was more dispersed than that of the HPSI. However, at the well-atomized condition, it appeared to be very uniform.

In this study, $Ni-W-Si_3N_4$ alloy composite coatings were prepared by pulse electrodeposition method using nickel sulfate bath with different contents of tungsten source, $Na_2WO_4.2H_2O$, and dispersed $Si_3N_4$ nano particles. The structure and microstructure ofcoatings was separately analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results indicated that nano $Si_3N_4$ and W content in alloy had remarkable effect on microstructure, microhardness and scratch resistant properties. Tungsten content in Ni-W and $Ni-W-Si_3N_4$ alloy ranged from 7 to 14 at.%. Scratch test results suggest that as compared to Ni-W only, $Ni-W-Si_3N_4$ prepared from Ni/W molar ratio of 1:1.5 dispersed with 20 g/L $Si_3N_4$ has shown the best result among different samples.
For high performance aerospace structures, the properties of highest priority are low density, high strength, and high stiffness(modulus of elasticity). Addition of beryllium decrease the density of the aluminum alloy and increase the strength and the stiffness of the alloy. However it is very difficult to produce the Al-Be alloy having useful engineering properties by conventional ingot casting, because of the extremely limited solid solubility of beryllium in aluminum. So, rapid solidification processing is necessary to obtain extended solid solubility. In this study, rapidly solidified Al-6 at% Be alloy were prepared by twin roll melt spinning process and single roll melt spinning process. Twin roll melt spun ribbons were extruded at $450^{\circ}C$ with reduction in area of 25 : 1 after vacuum hot pressing at $550^{\circ}C and 375^{\circ}C$. The microstructure of melt spun ribbon exhibited a refined cellular microstructure with dispersed Be particles. As advance velocity of liquid/solid interface increase, the morphology of Be particle vary from rod-like type to spherical type and the crystal structure of Be particle from HCP to BCC. These microstructural characteristics of rapidly solidified Al-6at.%Be alloy were described on the basis of metastable phase diagram proposed by Perepezko and Boettinger. The extruded ribbon consisted of recrystallized grains dispersed with Be particles and exhibited improved tensile property compared with that of extruded ingot.
Nano-Sized TiO$_2$ particles with diameter between 2 and 5 nm are synthesized in Water/Triton X-100/n-Hexane microemulsion. Particles show the amorphous structure and partially hydroxide form. The optical absorbance of particles appears at 250nm and band edge at 340nm. Gold metal is deposited on the surface of TiO$_2$ particles by reduction reaction of Au(III) ion with sodium hypophosphite. The size of gold-deposited particles is 20nm, and the optical absorbance appears at 270nm and at 550nm. So particles show the red color. The dense precipitation is formed by aggregation in the TiO$_2$ nano-sized particles of about 5nm size. But the bulky precipitation is formed by agglomeration phenomena in the gold-deposited particles of 20nm size. And also gold-deposited particles is easily dispersed by being re-dispersed in PEG/Water solution. This study has compared those things measuring the SPF characteristics of the cosmetics made of the synthesized particles. If the particle size is controlled appropriately, then the SPF value will be higher, or more colorless cosmetics will be made.
A conductive additive is prepared by dispersing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on Cu powder by mechanical milling and is distributed in epoxy to enhance its electrical conductivity. During milling, the MWCNTs are dispersed and partially embedded on the surface of the Cu powder to provide electrically conductive pathways within the epoxy-based composite. The degree of dispersion of the MWCNTs is controlled by varying the milling medium and the milling time. The MWCNTs are found to be more homogeneously dispersed when solvents (particularly, non-polar solvent, i.e., NMP) are used. MWCNTs gradually disperse on the surface of Cu powder because of the plastic deformation of the ductile Cu powder. However, long-time milling is found to destroy the molecular structure of MWCNTs, instead of effectively dispersing the MWCNTs more uniformly. Thus, the epoxy composite film fabricated in this study exhibits a higher electrical conductivity than 1.1 S/cm.
The carbon nanotube / poly-vinylidene fluoride (CNT/PVDF) composite films for the nano-generator devices were fabricated by spray coating method using the CNT/PVDF solution, which was prepared by adding PVDF pellets into the CNT dispersed N-Methyl-2-pyrroli-done (NMP) solution. The flexible CNT/PVDF composite films were investigated by the scanning electron microscopy, which revealed that the CNTs were uniformly dispersed in the PVDF matrix and thickness of the films was approximately $20{\mu}m$. Fourier transform infra-red spectra were used to investigate crystal structure of the as-spray-coated CNT/PVDF films, and we found that they revealed extremely large portion of the ${\beta}$ phase PVDF. The capacitance of the CNT/PVDF films increased by adding CNTs into the PVDF matrix, and finally saturated. However, the resistance didn't show any saturation effect in the CNT concentration range of 0~4 wt%. Finally, the resulting nano-generator devices revealed reasonable current output after given mechanical stress.
The interfacial area transport equation dynamically models the changes in interfacial structures along the flow field by mechanistically modeling the creation and destruction of dispersed phase. Hence, when employed in the numerical thermal-hydraulic system analysis codes, it eliminates artificial bifurcations stemming from the use of the static flow regime transition criteria. Accounting for the substantial differences in the transport mechanism for various sizes of bubbles, the transport equation is formulated for two characteristic groups of bubbles. The group 1 equation describes the transport of small-dispersed bubbles, whereas the group 2 equation describes the transport of large cap, slug or chum-turbulent bubbles. To evaluate the feasibility and reliability of interfacial area transport equation available at present, it is benchmarked by an extensive database established in various two-phase flow configurations spanning from bubbly to chum-turbulent flow regimes. The geometrical effect in interfacial area transport is examined by the data acquired in vertical fir-water two-phase flow through round pipes of various sizes and a confined flow duct, and by those acquired In vertical co-current downward air-water two-phase flow through round pipes of two different sizes.
Vertically-aligned silicon nanostructure arrays (SNAs) have been drawing much attention due to their useful electrical properties, large surface area, and quantum confinement effect. SNAs are typically fabricated by chemical vapor deposition, reactive ion etching, or wet chemical etching. Recently, metal-assisted chemical etching process, which is relatively simple and cost-effective, in combination with nanosphere lithography was recently demonstrated for vertical SNA fabrication with controlled SNA diameters, lengths, and densities. However, this method exhibits limitations in terms of large-area preparation of unperiodic nanostructures and SNA geometry tuning independent of inter-structure separation. In this work, we introduced the layerby- layer deposition of polyelectrolytes for holding uniformly dispersed polystyrene beads as mask and demonstrated the fabrication of well-dispersed vertical SNAs with controlled geometric parameters on large substrates. Additionally, we present a new means of building in vitro neuronal networks using vertical nanowire arrays. Primary culture of rat hippocampal neurons were deposited on the bare and conducting polymer-coated SNAs and maintained for several weeks while their viability remains for several weeks. Combined with the recently-developed transfection method via nanowire internalization, the patterned vertical nanostructures will contribute to understanding how synaptic connectivity and site-specific perturbation will affect global neuronal network function in an extant in vitro neuronal circuit.
In this study, a double-solvent radiation method is proposed to prepare silver nanoparticles in the pores of metal-organic framework MIL-101(Cr). The results reveal that well-dispersed silver nanoparticles with a diameter of about 2 nm were successfully fabricated in the cages of monodisperse octahedral MIL-101(Cr) with a particle size of about 400 nm. The structure of MIL-101(Cr) was not destroyed during the chemical treatment and irradiation. The resulting Ag/MIL-101 exhibits excellent catalytic performance for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol. This method can be extended to prepare other single or bimetallic components inside porous materials.
