PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of metal primers on the bonding of dental alloys and veneer resin. Polyvinylpyrrolidone solution's tarnish effect on bonding strength was also investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Disk-shape metal specimens (diameter 8 mm, thickness 1.5 mm) were made from 3 kinds of alloy (Co-Cr, Ti and Au-Ag-Pd alloy) and divided into 4 groups per each alloy. Half specimens (n=12 per group) in tarnished group were immersed into polyvinylpyrrolidone solution for 24 hours. In Co-Cr and Ti-alloy, Alloy Primer (MDP + VBATDT) and MAC-Bond II (MAC-10) were applied, while Alloy Primer and V-Primer (VBATDT) were applied to Au-Ag-Pd alloys. After surface treatment, veneering composite resin were applied and shear bond strength test were conducted. RESULTS. Alloy Primer showed higher shear bond strength than MAC-Bond II in Co-Cr alloys and Au-Ag-Pd alloy (P<.05). However, in Ti alloy, there was no significant difference between Alloy Primer and MAC-Bond II. Tarnished Co-Cr and Au-Ag-Pd alloy surfaces presented significantly decreased shear bond strength. CONCLUSION. Combined use of MDP and VBATDT were effective in bonding of the resin to Co-Cr and Au-Ag-Pd alloy. Tarnish using polyvinylpyrrolidone solution negatively affected on the bonding of veneer resin to Co-Cr and Au-Ag-Pd alloys.

We have investigated the contribution of the scattered x rays to the signal imaging in the radiographs acquired with anti-scatter grids of several grid ratios by separating the line spread functions (LSFs) derived from the signal edge image into the primary and the scatter components. By using a 1.0-mm lead plate in the scattering material, the blurred signal edge images were acquired by use of an imaging plate at a tube voltage of 80 kV with the anti-scatter grids of grid ratios for 5:1, 6:1, 8:1, 10:1 and 12:1. The edge profiles of the signal images were scanned and those in relative exposure were differentiated to obtain the LSFs. To investigate the contribution of the scattered x rays to the signal imaging, we proposed a method for separating the LSFs derived from the signal images into the primary and the scatter components, where the scatter component was approximated with exponential function. Our basic approach is to separate the area of the LSFs by ratios of the scattered x-ray exposure to the primary x-ray exposure, which were obtained for the grid ratios by use of a lead disk method. The LSFs and the two components were Fourier transformed to obtain the modulation transfer functions (MTFs) and their two components. As the result, we found that, by using the anti-scatter grids, the scattered x rays were reduced, but the shape of the LSFs of the scatter component hardly changed. The contributions of the scatter component to the MTFs were not negligible (more than 10 %) for spatial frequencies lower than about 1.0 mm$\^$-l/ and that was greater as the grid ratio decreasing. On the other hand, for higher frequencies, the primary component was dominant compared with the scatter component.
It is seldom possible that geotechnical materials like rocks and concretes found without joints, cracks, or discontinuities. Thereby, the impact of micro-cracks on the mechanical properties of them is to be considered. In the present study, the effect of micro-crack on the failure mechanism of rock specimens under uniaxial compression was investigated experimentally. For this purpose, thermal stress was used to induce micro-cracks in the specimens. Several cylindrical and disk shape specimens were drilled from granite collected from Zanjan granite mine, Iran. Some of the prepared specimens were kept in room temperature and the others were heated by a laboratory furnace to different temperature levels (200, 400, 600, 800 and 1000 degree Celsius). During the experimental tests, Acoustic Emission (AE) sensors were used to monitor specimen failure at the different loading sequences. Also, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) was used to distinguish the induced micro-crack by heating in the specimens. The fractographic analysis revealed that the thin sections heated to $800^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$ contain some induced micro-fractures, but in the thin sections heated to $200^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$ have not been observed any micro-fracture. In the next, a comprehensive experimental investigation was made to evaluate mechanical properties of heated and unheated specimens. Results of experimental tests showed that induced micro-cracks significantly influence on the failure mode of specimens. The specimens kept at room temperature failed in the splitting mode, while the failure mode of specimens heated to $800^{\circ}C$ are shearing and the specimens heated to $1000^{\circ}C$ failed in the spalling mode. On the basis of AE monitoring, it is found that with increasing of the micro-crack density, the ratio of the number of shear cracks to the number of tensile cracks increases, under loading sequences.

In this paper, we propose a novel small antenna for direction finding applications. The proposed antenna employs a skirt type disk to eliminate the radiation null on the broad-side direction in the high frequency range. Additionally, the multi-section matching stub is used for impedance matching in the low frequency range, The size of the proposed antenna is reduced as a half of the 60cm dipole which has a same resonance frequency of 200MHz. The antenna maintains a donut shape radiation pattern with a broad beam width for a wide range of frequency while the 60cm dipole shows radiation nulls on the broad-side direction and the high side-lobe level from 700MHz to 1,300MHz.
In this work, carbon nanotube and nano-size alumina particle are exploited as additive for lubrication experiment. We used pin-on-disk type tribometer to investigate the tribological characteristics of lubricants with respect to additives and rotational speed. We conducted more than 15 trials of tribotests for two hours for each specimen to obtain stable and accurate frictional force and to create measurable wear track on the substrate. We conducted tests at the boundary/mixed lubrication regime to evaluate the influence of additives on the tribological characteristics. We found that the friction coefficient decreased as the rotational speed increased and as additives were added. In particular, the reduction of friction by adding additives was more significant at low rotational speed than at high rotational speed. We speculate that the additives helped to separate and protect the two contacting surfaces at low speed, while the influence of additives was not significant at high speed since sufficiently thick lubricant film was formed. The wear of the substrate was also reduced by adding additives to the lubricant. However, in contrast to friction, the amount of wear at high rotational speed was less when alumina particles were added to the lubricant than the amount of wear at low speed. We speculate that the increased wear at low rotational speed is as a result of the intermittent abrasive wear caused by alumina particles with uneven shape, while the reduced wear at high speed is as a result of sufficient film thickness which prevented the abrasive wear.

As the demand for slim laptops requires ion'-height optical disc drives, vibration problems of optical disc drives are of great concern. Additionally, with the decrease of a track width and a depth of focus in high density drives, studies on vibration resonance between mechanical parts become more important. From the vibration point of view, the performance of optical disc drives is closely related with the relative displacement between a disc and an objective lens which is controlled by servo mechanism. In other words, to read and write data properly, the relative displacement between an optical disc and an objective lens should be within a certain limit. The relative displacement is dependent on not only an anti-vibration mechanism design but also servo control capability. Good servo controls can make compensation for poor mechanisms, and vice versa. In a usual development process, robustness of the anti-vibration mechanism is always verified with the servo control of an objective lens. Engineers partially modify servo gain margin in case of a data reading error. This modification cannot correct the data reading error occasionally and the mechanism should be redesigned more robustly. Therefore it is necessary to verify a mechanism with respect to the possible servo gain plot. In this study we propose the experimental verification method far anti-vibration mechanism with respect to the existing servo gain plot. This method verifies axial vibration characteristics of optical disc drives on the basis of transmissibility. Using this method, we verified our mechanism and modified the mechanism for better anti-vibration characteristics.

Recently, almost all data has stored and managed in the shape of digital as development of IT infrastructure. Digital data is able to store the huge data in very small space. but if the disk should be stolen or lost, it would have many secure problems such as data leakage. Currently, digital data is protected by encryption method to prevent data leakage. However, the encryption method is not enough to protect data because the performance of attack system is higher and the attack methods is various. Therefore, there is a need for a new advanced data protection method. To solve secure problems, many research has been progressed like Cloud Shredder, which distributes data and then store. In this paper, We found out the problem of the Cloud Shredder and proposed an advanced method of digital data protection to solve those problem.
The determination of the conformal maps from the unit disk onto a Jordan region has been completed by solving the Theodorsen equation which is an nonlinear equation for the boundary correspondence function. Wegmann's method has been well known for the efficient mothed among the many suggestions for the Theodorsen equation. We proposed an improved method for convergence by applying a low-frequency pass filter to the Wegmann's method and theoretically proved convergence of improved iteration[1, 2]. And we proposed an effective method which makes it possible to estimate an error even if the real value is nut acquired[3]. In this paper, we propose an automatic algorithm for numerical conformal mapping bared on this error analysis in our early study. By this algorithm numerical conformal mapping is determined automatically according to the given domain of problem and the required accuracy. The discrete numbers and parameters of the low-frequency filter were acquired only by experience. This algorithm, however, is able to determine the discrete numbers and parameters of the low-frequency filter automatically in accordance with the given region This results from analyzing the function, which may decide the shape of the given domain under the assumption that the degree of the problem depends of the transformation of a given domain, as seen in the Fourier Transform. This proposed algorithm is also ploved by numerical experience.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM. Qualitative and semi-quantitative methods have been developed for TMJ sound classification, but the criteria presented are completely inhomogeneous. Thus, to develop more objective criteria for defining TMJ sounds, electroacoustical systems have been developed. We used Joint vibration analysis in the BioPAK system(Bioresearch Inc., Milwaukee, USA) as the electrovibratography. PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to examine the TMJ sounds with repect to frequency spectra patterns and the integral > 300 Hz /< 300 Hz ratios via six-months follow-up. MATERIAL AND METHODS. This study was done before and after the six-months recordings with 20 dental school students showed anterior disk displacement with reduction. Joint vibrations were analyzed using a mathematical technique known as the Fast Fourier Transform. RESULTS. In this study Group I and Group II showed varied integral > 300 /< 300 ratios before and after the six-months recordings. Also, by the comparative study between the integral > 300 /< 300 ratios and the frequency spectrums, it was conceivable that the frequency spectrums showed similar patterns at the same location that the joint sound occurred before and after the six-months recordings. while the frequency spectrums showed varied patterns at the different locations that the joint sound occurred before and after six-month recordings, it would possibly be due to the differences in the degree of internal derangement and/or in the shape of the disc. CONCLUSIONS. It is suggested that clinicians consider the integral > 300 /< 300 ratios as well as the frequency spectrums to decide the starting-point of the treatment for TMJ sounds.
Feature-based similarity retrieval has become an important research issue in multimedia database systems. The features of multimedia data are useful for discriminating between multimedia objects (e 'g', documents, images, video, music score, etc.). For example, images are represented by their color histograms, texture vectors, and shape descriptors, and are usually high-dimensional data. The performance of conventional multidimensional data structures(e'g', R- Tree family, K-D-B tree, grid file, TV-tree) tends to deteriorate as the number of dimensions of feature vectors increases. The R*-tree is the most successful variant of the R-tree. In this paper, we propose a SOM-based R*-tree as a new indexing method for high-dimensional feature vectors. The SOM-based R*-tree combines SOM and R*-tree to achieve search performance more scalable to high dimensionalities. Self-Organizing Maps (SOMs) provide mapping from high-dimensional feature vectors onto a two dimensional space. The mapping preserves the topology of the feature vectors. The map is called a topological of the feature map, and preserves the mutual relationship (similarity) in the feature spaces of input data, clustering mutually similar feature vectors in neighboring nodes. Each node of the topological feature map holds a codebook vector. A best-matching-image-list. (BMIL) holds similar images that are closest to each codebook vector. In a topological feature map, there are empty nodes in which no image is classified. When we build an R*-tree, we use codebook vectors of topological feature map which eliminates the empty nodes that cause unnecessary disk access and degrade retrieval performance. We experimentally compare the retrieval time cost of a SOM-based R*-tree with that of an SOM and an R*-tree using color feature vectors extracted from 40, 000 images. The result show that the SOM-based R*-tree outperforms both the SOM and R*-tree due to the reduction of the number of nodes required to build R*-tree and retrieval time cost.
