PBL을 활용한 <드레이핑> 교과 수업사례 및 학습효과 연구 (A case study of problem-based learning (PBL) in classes)

  • Universities have recently introduced problem-based learning (PBL) to various subjects to enhance problem-solving skills (including self-directed learning and small-group learning) required in industry. The PBL module was applied to the personal production process in a draping class. A study was based on a questionnaire after conducting two PBL modules with a group of students. Each PBL module included 'design analysis', 'presentation of flat sketch and draping plan', 'discussion of the plan', 'evaluation of the draping result and correcting the problem', and 'final evaluation of the completed project'. Results showed that satisfaction with the PBL method and its activities was higher than satisfaction with existing teaching methods. In particular, among the various components, the 'design analysis' and 'the presentation step of flat sketch and draping plan' stages were more helpful to students compared to small-group discussion. Moreover, the effects of PBL were observed through student reflection essays, in which students suggested that PBL was very effective in enhancing problem-solving through self-directed and small-group learning. Despite the overall satisfaction with PBL, students expressed some minor difficulties associated with awkwardness with a novel learning method, lack of diverse perspectives among each group, and poor communication skills. Therefore, the study shows that PBL is highly likely to be useful to students when they are solving pattern drafting problems and making samples through self-directed learning and small-group learning.

논증강화교육이 의학과 학생의 문제바탕학습 경험에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Argumentation Instruction on Medical Student Experiences with Problem-Based Learning)

  • When participating in problem-based learning (PBL), it is important for medical students to generate claims and provide justifications for their claims in small group discussions. This study aimed to investigate the effect of argumentation instruction on medical student learning experiences with PBL. A total of one hundred first-year preclinical students from Inje University College of Medicine, who had attended argumentation instruction, participated in this study. All of the participants completed a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire regarding their learning experiences with PBL, before and after the argumentation instruction. The questionnaire comprised 22 items with eight subcategories: argumentation activity, reflection, integration of basic and clinical science, identification of lack of knowledge, logical thinking, self-directed study, communication, and attitude toward discussion. The collected data were analyzed through a paired-sample t-test. The results of this study found that the argumentation instruction promoted the preclinical students' experiences with argumentation activities, reflection, an integration of basic and clinical science, the identification of their lack of knowledge, logical thinking, and self-directed study, and it increased positive attitudes toward group discussion. The findings suggest argumentation instruction can enhance medical student group discussions and help students achieve the objectives of PBL, including acquisition of basic and clinical science knowledge and development of clinical reasoning and self-directed learning abilities, which can highlight the meaningful learning experiences students have with PBL.

공과대학의 고체역학 교과목에 플립러닝의 적용사례 (A Case Study on the Application of Flipped Learning to Solid Mechanics in College of Engineering)

  • This study dealt with a case study on the application of flipped learning to solid mechanics in college of engineering and analyzed the results of Pre-class survey, In-class activities, and Post-class survey to examine the effects of flipped learning. Total sample size of the analysis was 32 students who applied for solid mechanics in mechanical engineering department, consisting of 23 students in sophomore, five in junior and four in senior. The class was operated in three stages: Pre-class, In-class, and Post-class. The response of the students was observed at each stage of the class. According to the results, flipped learning was effective in learning knowledge of major subjects in engineering, and students actively participated in class activities and conducted smooth discussions with team members. Flipped learning has also improved students' class concentration and academic ability. Most of the students have expressed their intention to take classes or actively recommend other students when the classes are held. Effective classes will require systematic discussion guidance because flipped learning is closely related to discussion activities.

치과위생사 역할중심의 문제중심학습 패키지 개발 (Development of PBL Package - focusing on dental hygienist roles -)

  • The purpose of this study was to introduce PBL to dental hygienist education in an effort to raise a question about the inauthentic and inappropriate curriculum. PBL is one of learning methods to enhance the problem-solving ability of learners, and it's attempted to develop a PBL package focusing on dental hygienist roles to lay the foundation for producing competent and expert dental hygienists with a good problem- solving ability. The literature concerned was reviewed from November 2002 through January 2003 to determine whether or not PBL was applicable to dental-hygienist course, and that turned out to be effective for dental hygienist education. And then a PBL package was developed to train students to be knowledgeable and have a knowhow and excellent problem-solving skills. The characteristics of the PBL package could be described as follows: First, that focused on dental hygienist roles to serve the purpose of this study to remedy the current unrealistic and improper curriculum and improve the problem-solving skills of learners. Second, time factor was taken into account. In this four-week course for two credits, there are four classes a week, and it's required to take six or eight weeks to apply the PBL package, which is expected to demotivate students. Therefore, it's planned to conduct more weekly classes to make a proper progress. Third, a wide variety of teaching aids were put to use, and learner would be encouraged to be more interactive and utilize teaching aids properly, and eventually, they could have an opportunity to better express themselves. Fourth, online real-time learner discussion would be attended by this researcher. Learners would have a discussion in real time in the Internet cafe chat room, and different discussion time would be allocated to each team. This researcher would take part in each team's discussion once or more. Fifth, learners would prepare one or more journal(s) about four-hour Internet cafe learning. They have to make it twice a week at least, and it would be a good opportunity for learners to look back on themselves and their teams, and their learning effect would be greater. Specific rules were presented to help them make a successful self-examination. Sixth, there are some spaces in the lower part of objective test sheets to have students describe why they make a particular answer choice. They would be asked to depict the reason of their prior evaluation and lecture assessment especially because their responses would be important for more successful discussion and feedback. Seventh, problem-solving approach was designed to attain learning objectives, stimulate the creative thinking of learners and help them share a more systematic discussion. That would serve as a secondhand guide not to make them digress when they discuss by using information they acquire from a scenario presented in class.

트위터(Twitter)를 활용한 토론학습에서 과제가치, 트위터효능감과 사회적 실재감이 학습만족도에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Task Value, Twitter Self-efficacy, and Social Presence on Learning Satisfaction on Twitter Discussion)

  • 본 연구는 트위터를 활용한 토론학습에서 고려해야 할 지침을 얻고자, 과제가치, 트위터효능감, 사회적 실재감이 학습만족도에 미치는 영향과 사회적 실재감의 매개효과를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 2010학년도 2학기에 서울에 소재한 A대학교에 한 강좌를 수강한 학습자 46명을 대상으로 약 3주 동안 트위터에서 토론수업을 진행하여, 과제가치, 트위터효능감, 사회적 실재감, 토론학습만족도 자료를 수집하였다. 자료분석 방법으로는 상관분석, 회귀분석과 매개분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 과제가치, 트위터효능감, 사회적 실재감은 학습만족도에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 요인으로 확인되었으며, 사회적 실재감은 과제가치와 트위터효능감이 학습만족도를 예측하는 데 있어 매개역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 트위터를 활용한 토론학습에서 학습만족도를 높이기 위해서는 과제가치와 트위터효능감 향상을 위한 학습과정 설계 전략이 필요하며, 이와 더불어 사회적 실재감을 촉진시켜줄 수 있는 학습환경 설계가 필요함을 시사한다. 또한, 트위터 학습 관련 연구는 아직 초기단계로, 향후 트위터를 활용한 학습환경에서 만족도나 성취도 등의 학습성과를 높이는 변인을 규명하는 연구가 지속적으로 수행되어야겠다.

전자매체를 통한 정보공유와 공동학습 (Information Sharing and Group Learing Using Electronic Communication Media)

  • 최근 들어 인터넷 기반 교육, 사이버 교육 등 다양한 교육프로그램 및 방식이 교육현장에 도입됨에 따라 기존의 전통적인 교육과 달리 전자매체에 의존하는 교육내용전달에 대한 관심과 요구가 증가하고 있다. 본 연구의 준비단계로 실시한 사전연구에서 공동학습을 위해 형성되었던 온라인 학습집단의 약 절반정도가 가상공간에서의 공동학습을 효율적인 것으로 답한 반면, 나머지 절반정도는 학습집단의 형성과 학습의 진행에 어려움을 경험했다. 이 연구는 대학 학부생들로 구성된 온라인 학습집단들로 하여금 전자우편과 토론게시판의 두 가지 전자매체를 통해서 주어진 토론과제를 수행하도록 하고, 각 전자매체의 특성과 온라인 공동학습집단의 정보공유 패턴 및 학습의 효율성과의 연관성을 조사하였다. 연구의 결과 전자우편의 경우는 학습자 간의 상호작용에 있어서 좀 더 개별적이고 친숙한 느낌으로 정보를 전달하는 장점을 지닌 반면. 비효율적이고 일방적인 정보전달로 인한 의견교류의 어려움을 나타냈다. 토론게시판을 이용한 경우는 여러 학습자와의 자료 공유 및 전체공지가 용이하며 조원 간의 적극적인 참여가 가능하다는 긍정적인 답변과 더불어 정확한 의사전달의 어려움. 게시물의 중복 등이 문제점으로 제기되었다. 따라서 매체별 특성에 따라 학습자 간의 이용의도 및 경험에 차이가 나타남을 알 수 있었다.

대학교양에서 토의식 수업이 대학생의 의사소통능력, 문제해결력, 지도력에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Discussion on College Students' Communication Capability, Problem-solving Capability and Leadership in a General Education Course)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of small-group discussion and panel discussion as teaching and learning methods on college students' competencies of communication, problem-solving and leadership in a general education course. Participants were 52 college students, and they participated in the 13-session lessons. The data from questionnaires collected before and/or after the experiment were analyzed using a paired t-test and percent. The results were as follows. First, each 'total' competency in communication, problem-solving and leadership was increased statistically significant after the experiment. Second, in subdomains of each key competency, 'directed communication' and 'understanding the perspective of others' in communication, and 'divergent thinking', 'decision-making' and 'assessment' subdomains in problem-solving, and all subdomains in leadership were increased statistically significant after the experiment. Based on the results and students' opinions about discussions, the education implications for small-group discussion and panel discussion were discussed.

과학 모의 수업에 대한 반성 저널 쓰기와 토론을 통한 초등 예비교사의 생산적 반성 증진 (Facilitating Productive Reflection of Pre-service Elementary Teachers through Reflective Journal Writing and Discussion about Science Peer Teaching Practice)

  • In this study, the researcher aimed to increase productive reflection of pre-service elementary teachers through reflective journal writing and discussion after science peer teaching practice. 'Productive reflection' involves consideration and analysis of interrelationships among aspects of teaching including learners and learning, subject matter knowledge, assessment, and instruction. During 8 week efforts, productive reflection has increased gradually in both individual journal and class discussion. However half of individual journals didn't show productive reflection even in the final stage. This implicated that development of reflective thinking is an achievable but progressive change. By describing the progress in discussion and participants' responses on journal writing and discussion activity, this study shed light on practical ways of enhancing reflective teacher education.

기술수용모형을 이용한 소셜 네트워킹 기반 토의 학습의 효과 분석 (Analyzing the Effectiveness of Discussion Learning using the Technology Acceptance Model on Social Networking Service)

  • 본 연구에서는 소셜 네트워크 서비스의 대표적인 도구인 트위터를 활용한 토의 수업의 교육전략을 제안하고, 이를 적용한 실험을 실시하였다. 초등학생들의 일부가 패널토의에 참여하고 나머지는 방청객이 되어 트위터를 사용하여 토의에 참여하였다. 기술수용모형을 적용하여 효과성을 분석하고 설문조사로 만족도 및 협력학습의 효과성을 검증하였다. 실험 결과 용이성이 유용성에 영향을 미치며, 유용성이 태도에, 태도가 사용의도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 트위터를 사용한 토의학습에 대한 만족도 및 협력학습의 효과면에도 매우 긍정적인 반응을 보였고, 회귀분석 결과 협력에 대한 인식이 유용성에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 본 연구에서 제안한 트위터를 활용한 토의학습 전략이 효과적이었음을 알 수 있다.

사이버대학 e-러닝환경에서 학업성취도에 영향을 미치는 학습 참여 변인 규명 (The Examination of the Variables related to the Students' e-learning Participation that Have an Effect on Learning Achievement in e-learning Environment of Cyber University)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 사이버대학 e-러닝 환경에서 학업성취도에 영향을 미치는 학습 참여 변인을 규명하는 것이다. 이에 사이버대학 e-러닝 수업에 참여한 학습자를 대상으로, e-러닝 학습 참여 변인과 학업성취도와의 상관관계를 분석하고, 어떤 학습 참여 변인이 학업성취도에 영향을 미치는 지, 학습자 배경(성별, 연령별, 학년별)에 따라 학업성취도에 영향을 미치는 학습 참여 변인은 무엇인지를 다중회귀분석을 통해 규명한다. 연구 결과, 학습 참여 변인 중 출석률과 토론게시판 게시 횟수가 학업 성취도와 높은 상관관계에 있었으나, 누적학습시간은 상대적으로 낮은 상관관계를 보였다. 학업성취도에 영향을 미치는 학습 참여 변인으로는 출석률, 토론 게시판 게시 횟수, 강의실 접속 순으로 규명되었다. 학습자 배경별로는 학업성취도에 영향을 미치는 학습참여 변인간의 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 사이버대학 e-러닝 환경에서 학습자의 학업성취도를 제고하기 위해 학습 참여 변인과 관련하여 고려해야 할 사항을 제언한다.
