Optimal Life-Cycle Cost Design of Steel Box Girders (강박스 거더의 생애주기비용 최적설계)

  • This paper presents a design method to minimize Life Cycle Cost (LCC) of steel box girders. The LCC considered in this paper includes initial cost, expected life-cycle maintenance cost and repair cost. A load carrying capacity curve is derived from a condition grade curve of steel girders and load tarrying capacity that is measured in safety diagnostic test. And then, optimal design of steel box girders is performed on the basis of load carrying capacity curve. In this paper time and number of times for repair of steel girders are determined based on the calculated load carrying capacity curve. Also, annual costs considering real discount rate are compared and analyzed in various cases. It is concluded that the optimal design of steel box gilders considering LCC by the presented method will lead to more economical and safer girders than conventional design.

The Potential Cost-Benefit Analysis on the Disability Discrimination Act in Korea (장애인차별금지법의 잠재적 비용-편익 분석: 고용영역을 중심으로)

  • This study was attempted to give aids in making 'the Disability Discrimination Act' by estimating the potential Cost-Benefit in case that the discrimination on the disabled is removed. The potential benefits from this Disability Discrimination Act are calculated considering the income increase of the people with disabilities from additional employment for them and the decrease of employment levies and the public assistance benefits. The potential cost was made focusing on the following 2 expenses- the extra expenditures that the owners of companies had to invest from the employment of the disabled and the managing expenses for correcting discrimination organizations. As the result of this estimation, the potential net present value under the 7% discount rate is very high as 12,700,301 million won and the cost-benefit ratio is also great as 96.8. The consequence of the sensitive analysis in changing the discount rate also does not have great changes. As the result of these estimating results, it is known that when the discrimination is solved by the 'Disability Discrimination Act', the pure benefit of our society will become tremendous. After all, it could be said that the need for 'the Disability Discrimination Act' is emphasized and should be emphasized.

  • The body to achieve an interaction that are connected to each other. Foot of which plays an important role in motor activity. Insole that has been recently used, have a dynamic functional elements. In particular, support of Arch plays a very important role in terms of a motor function of the human body as a whole. It is possible to predict the proper support Arch with insole, the overall structure of the body there can affect the balance. In this study, by applying the insole which supports the Longitudinal arch and Transverse arch, you are trying to assess the interaction of balance and the body's ability. To target the 20 there is no problem in the sense of balance, college student, and changes were observed by measuring the Center of Position area and distance through the Biorescue device worn before and after led by Arch support. As a result, I showed improved results significantly discount rate after wearing in the Center of Position area and distance to assess the balance ability. Therefore, the correction insole function is to support the Longitudinal arch and Transverse arch to an important role in the foot. It may be that it has a functional element for improving the balance of the function of preventing collapse of the arch during walking, to disperse the weight of the entire foot, us reduce fatigue in the end.

Cost-Benefit Analysis for Periodical Inspection of Press (일부 사업장의 프레스 정기검사에 대한 비용-편익 분석)

  • Although occupational accidents caused by presses are found to be the highest in manufacturing industrial groups, there are no study regarding to annulment for periodical inspection of press. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the economic benefit of periodical inspection of press for preventing accidents. The cost-benefit analysis in this study was conducted to evaluate the relative magnitude of benefit to cost. Study samples were 26 and years analysed were 1995, 1996, 1998 and 1999. Personal interviews with safety managers were held from October 7 to November 2, 2002. Costs of the periodical inspection program were compared with the benefit of accident that caused by presses. Costs and benefits were calculated at an discount rate of 5%. The benefit-cost ratio was 5.7. The sensitivity analysis for the discount rate, the number of press, and size of industry showed that every benefit-cost ratios were upper than one(1.0). The results of this study suggested that periodical inspection for press is important program for preventing accident and the regulation for periodical inspection program should be reenforced by government.

  • The purpose of this study is to review the various valuation techniques of intangible assets. The value of intangible asset by the income approach can be measured as the present value of the economic benefit over the intangible asset's remaining useful life. The typical methods used in intangible asset economic income projections include extrapolation method, life cycle analyses, sensitivity analyses, simulation analyses, judgment method, and tabula rasa method. There are several methods available for estimating capitalization rates and discount rates for intangible asset, in which we have discussed market extraction method, capital asset pricing model, built-up method, discounted cash flow model, and weighted average cost of capital method. As the capitalization methods for intangible asset, relief-from-royalty method, excess earnings capitalization method, profit split method, residual from business enterprise method, postulated loss of income method and so on have been reviewed.

  • A capital investment problem is essentially one of determining whether the anticipated cash inflows from a proposed project are sufficiently attractive to invest funds in the project. The net present value(NPV) criterion and internal rate of return(IRR) criterion are widely used as means of making investment decisions. A positive NPV means the equivalent worth of the inflows is greater than the equivalent worth of outflows, so, the project makes profit. Business people are familiar with rates of return because they all borrow money to finance ventures, even if the money they borrow is their own. Thus they are apt to use the IRR in preference to the NPV. The IRR can be defined as the discount rate that causes the net present value of a cash flow to equal zero. Why the project are accepted if the project's IRR is greater than the investor's minimum attractive rate of return\ulcorner Against the NPV, the definition cannot distinctly explain the concept of the IRR as decision criterion. We present a new definition of the IRR as the ratio of profit on the invested capital.

  • The objective of this work is to perform a geometric analysis of the net present value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR), defining analytics and in verifying the relationship between geometric properties of such functions. For this simulation, was used the values of the cash flows for each period identical and equal to US$ 200.00 cash, the initial investment US$ 1,000.00 and investments of each identical and equal to US$ 50.00 period. In addition, the discount rate and time were considered a maximum of 2 years (24 months) at a rate between 0 and 100%. The geometric analysis of the characteristics obtained from the expressions of the Net Present Value and Internal Rate of Return possible to observe that besides the analytical dependence between these quantities , the geometric relationships are relevant when studied in relation to the zero NPV and expressed a great contribution the sense of a broad vision for the administrator in the analysis of analytical variables that in uences the balance sheet of the company.

  • The demand and installation for photovoltaic system(namely, PV) has grown steadily in Korea. However, the PV system has a various economic viability according to the PV system characteristic variables such as inverter efficiency, miscellaneous power conditioning losses, azimuth and slope of PV array, PV tracking mode, and so on. The other variables are the monthly consumed electric energy and economic related factor such as initial cost, government subsidy, maintenance cost, inflation rate, energy cost escalation rate, discount rate, etc. Therefore, this study is to present economic evaluation of PV system with those concerned factors by calculating internal rate of return, year-to-positive cash flow and net present value indices.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the economic validity of artificial reefs facilities and seeds release programs in Jeju Trial Sea Farm Project for raising fishing people's revenue. The results of this study show the artificial reefs facilities and seeds release programs have net present value of 15,962.63 million won, internal rate of retrurn 13.86%, and benefit-cost of 1.912 under a 5.5% social discount rate. This suggests that in Jeju trial sea farm project, artificial reefs facilities and seeds release programs increase fisherperson's revenue.

  • Recently a great deal of people are taking legal action against the housing provider due to the defects of their Apartment house. And most of the housing companies are spending a huge amount of expenses and efforts to keep their brand value. This essay will carry out time series analysis the 20 housing district which are constructed by huge construction companies. This analysis itemised by metropolitan area(Seoul) and others to keep the degree of reliability, and converted future defect maintenance cost into current cost applied by discount rate to figure out suitability of defect maintenance cost. Even though, this essay is not able to represent standard of defect maintenance cost due to the insufficiency of record, while it will be assisted as a referance when long-term record of time series is estabilished.
