The characteristics of Xe discharge lamp(Mercuryless lamp) are described in this paper. In this paper, FFL is operated by sine wave and pulsed source. We apply V-Q Lissajous' figure for the discharge measurements of FFL which has the electrodes covered with dielectric. When FFL is operated by sine wave source, the characteristics are similar to DBD(Dielectric Barrier Discharge) and SD(Silent Discharge). And we compared the characteristics of FFL which is operated with sine wave and pulsed discharge by using V-Q Lissajous' figure method. When FFL is operated with pulsed, the discharge current flows after the applied voltage is risen. As the duty ratio increases the electric field becomes strong and much more xenon ions are produced. And the number of metastable xenon atoms seem to increase, therefore, the phosphor radiation after the cut off of voltage increases compared with the first peak of radiation. Consequently, the 172㎚ radiation becomes strong as the duty ratio increases.

A series of multicomponent $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{1-x}Fe_{x}$ (x=0.00, 0.08, 0.15, 0.22, and 0.30) alloys are prepared and their oystal structure and P-C-T curves are examined. The electrochemical properties of these allqys such as activation conditions, discharge capacity, cycling performance are also investigated. $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{1-x}Fe_{x}$ (x=0.00, 0.08, 0.15, 0.22 and 0.30) have the C14 Laves phase hexagonal structure. The electrode was activated by the hot-charging treatment. The best activation conditions were the current density 120 mA/g and the hot-charging time 12h at $80^{\circ}C$ in the case of the alloy with x=0.00. The discharge capacity increased rapidly until the fourth cycle and then decreased. The discharge capacity increased again from the 13th cycle, arriving at 234 mAh/g at the 50th cycle. The discharge capacily just after activation decreases with the increase in the amount of the substituted Fe but the cycling performance is improved. The discharge capacity after activation of the alloy with x=0.00 is 157 mAh/g at the current density 120 mA/g. $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.85}Fe_{0.15}$ is a good composition with a medium quantity of discharge capacities and a good cycling performance. The ICP analysis of the electrolyte for these electrodes after 50 charge-discharge cycles shows that the concentrations of V and Zr are relatively high. Another series of multicomponent $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.85}M_{0.15}$ (M = Fe, Co, Cu, Mo and Al) alloys are prepared. They also have the C14 Laves phase hexagonal structure. The alloys with M = Co and Fe have relatively larger hydrogen storage capacities. The discharge capacities just after activation are relatively large in the case of the alloys with M = Al and Cu. They are 212 and 170 mAh/g, respectivety, at the current density 120mA/g. The $Zr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.85}Co_{0.15}$ alloy is the best one with a relatively large discharge capacity and a good cycling performance.

This paper presents the results of spectrum analysis of leakage current waveforms on contaminated polymer insulators under fog conditions. This is a basic study on development of a monitoring for aging degree and surface pollution state using distortion rate(%) of 3rd and 5th harmonics according fundamental frequency[60Hz] under environment conditions. Arcing on the surface was always associated with distortion in the leakage current ; hence the low frequency components of the leakage current can be used as a means to evaluate the surface degradation. The results indicate that the distortion rate by spectrum analysis is available for the monitoring of contamination condition of EPDM Polymer insulators.

Partial discharges (PD) lead to the degradation of high voltage cables and accessories. PD activities occur due to the existence of impurities, voids, contaminants, defects and protrusions during the manufacture and installation of power cables. Commonly, insulation failures occur at cable joints and terminations, caused by inhomogeneous electric field distributions. In this work, a blend of natural rubber (NR) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) was investigated, and the optimal formulation of the blend that could resist PD was discussed. The experiments were conducted under a constant high voltage stress test of 6.5 kV AC and the magnitude of partial discharge activities was recorded using the CIGRE method II. Pattern analysis of PD signals was performed along with the interpretation of morphological changes. The results showed that the addition of 10 wt% of NR and 5 wt% of Alumina Trihydrate (ATH) provided promising results in resisting PD activities. However, as the NR content increased, more micropores existed, thus resulting in increased PD activities within the samples.

To understand the fundamental parameters of Alvand tokamak, A Rogowski coil with an active integrator was designed and constructed. Considering the characteristics of the Alvand tokamak, the structural and electrical parameters affecting the sensor function, were designed. Calibration was performed directly in the presence of plasma. The sensor has a high resistance against interference of external magnetic fields. Plasma current was measured in various experiments. Based on the plasma current profile and loop voltage signal, the time evolution of plasma discharge was investigated and plasma behavior was analyzed. Alvand tokamak discharge was divided into several regions that represents different physical phenomena in the plasma. During the plasma discharge time, plasma had significant changes and its characteristic was not uniform. To understand the plasma behavior in each of the phases, the Rogowski sensor should have sufficient time resolution. The Rogowski sensor with a frequency up to 15 kHz was appropriate for this purpose.

Recently, In the production line of batteries, charge and discharge tests are essential to verify battery characteristics. In this case, the battery charging uses a unidirectional AC/DC converter capable of output voltage and current control, and the discharge uses a resistive load. Since this method consumes energy during discharge, it must be replaced with a bi-directional AC/DC converter system capable of charging and discharging. Although it is difficult to replace the connected inverter part of the bi-directional AC/DC converter system due to the high cost, the spread of the solar-connected inverter rapidly increases as the current solar supply business is activated, and thereby the solar-connected type Inverter prices are plunging. If it can be used as a power converter for battery discharge without program modification of the solar-powered inverter, it will have competition. In this paper, propose a new battery discharge system using a combination of a photovoltaic DC/DC simulator and photovoltaic PCS using a battery to be used as a power converter for battery discharge without program modification of a low-cost photovoltaic inverter. In addition, propose an optimal solar characteristic curve for the stable operation of PCS. The validity of the proposed system was verified using a 500[W] class solar DC/DC simulator and a solar PCS prototype.
In this paper the insulation characteristics test results of 25 low-voltage induction motors($3\phi$, 5HP, 380V) are presented. Five different types of insulation techniques are applied to 25 motors. The maximum partial discharge (PD) magnitude ($\textrm{Q}_{m}$) discharge inception voltage (DIV) dissipation factor tip-up ($\Delta$tan$\delta$) and rate of change in AC current($\Delta$I) are measured by PD and AC current tests. Also the insulation breakdown tests by high voltage pulse are performed and the corresponding breakdown voltage are obtained.

In the electro-discharge machining the machining performance is closely related to the characteristics of discharge which can be identified from electrical behavior in gap between workpiece and electrode. Therefore, the accurate prediction of electrical behavior in electro-discharge machining (EDM) is useful to process control and optimization. However, any simulation model fur prediction of electrical behavior in EDM process has never been reported until now. In this study, a simulation model is developed to analyze the electrical behavior of electro-discharge plasma which significantly influences electrical behavior in EDM process. For the purpose of this the fundamentals of electro-discharge mechanism such as inception, propagation, formation of plasma channel and termination are investigated to accurately predict the cycle of discharge plasma in EDM. As a result, a mathematical model of electro-discharge plasma is constructed with considering the fundamentals of electro-discharge plasma. Consequently, it is demonstrated that the developed model can predict the electrical behavior of plasma such as electron density in various conditions.

This paper constructed the 3D real-time numerical model for which predicts the water quality and movement characteristics of the inner bay, which consider the characteristics of the wind-driven current and density current in estuaries which generated by the river discharge from the Hyeong-san river and oceanic water of the Eastern sea. The constructed numerical model reappeared successfully the seawater circulation current of Yeong-il Bay, which used the input conditions of the real-time tidal current, river discharge and weather conditions at March of 2001 year. Also to observe the wind-driven current and density current in estuaries effected to the seawater circulation pattern of the inner bay, we investigated the analyzation for the each impact factors and the relationship with the water quality of Yeong-il bay
A power supply for magnetic-stimulation devices was designed via a control algorithm that involved a start current application based on a resonant converter. In this study, a new power supply for magnetic-stimulation devices was designed by controlling the pulse repetition frequency and pulse width. The power density could be controlled using the start-current-compensation and ZCS (zero-current switching) resonant converter. The results revealed a high-repetition-frequency, high-power magnetic-stimulation device. It was found that the stimulation coil current pulse width and that pulse repetition frequency could be controlled within the range of 200-450 ${\mu}S$ and 200-900 pps, respectively. The magnetic-stimulation device in this study consisted of a stimulation coil device and a power supply system. The maximum power of the stimulation coil from one discharge was 130 W, which was increased to 260 W using an additional reciprocating discharge. The output voltage was kept stable in a sinusoidal waveform regardless of the load fluctuations by forming voltage and current control using a deadbeat controller without increasing the current rating at the starting time. This paper describes this magnetic-stimulation device to which the start current was applied.
