  • Fuel Cell is used stacking metal or polymer substrate. This hydro property of substrate surface is very important. Usually, surface property is hydrophilic. The surface oxidation of SUS is investigated through plasma treatments with an atmospheric-pressure dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) for increasing hydrophilic property. The plasma process makes an experiment under various operating conditions of the DBD, which operating conditions are treatment time, plasma gas mixture ratio, the plasma source supply frequency. Two kinds of SUS substrate, SUS-304 and SUS 316L, were used. Discharge frequency has a crucial impact on equipment performance and gas treatment. After the plasma treatment of a SUS plate, highly improved wettability was noted. But, when high oxygen supply, the substrate damaged seriously.

  • MgO protection layer in ac PDP(plasma display panel) prevents the dielectric layer from ion bombarding in discharge plasma. The MgO layer also has the additional important role in lowering the firing voltage due to a large secondary electron emission coefficient. Until now, the MgO protection layer is mainly prepared by E-beam evaporation. In this study, MgO protection layer is prepared on dielectric layer of ac PDP cell by reactive R.F magnetron sputtering with Mg target under various conditions of oxygen partial pressure. Discharge characteristics of PDP is also studied as a parameter of MgO preparation conditions. The sputtered MgO shows the better discharge characteristics compared with MgO deposited by E-beam evaporator.

  • The positive column of a discharge tube filled with a mixture of mercury-xenon has a tendency to become contracted at room temperature. However, once the tube temperature is raised over 50 [$^{\circ}C$], the positive column changes from a contracted state to a diffused state. The xenon emission is stronger in the contracted positive column than in the diffused column. Alternatively, the mercury emission is more intense in the diffused positive column, and the luminance of the phosphor coating on the inner surface of the tube is higher than that in the contracted positive column. Moreover, higher luminance can be obtained by increasing the xenon pressure.

  • We developed 1- and 2-dimensional fluid model for the analysis of a capacitively coupled Ar RF(Radio Frequency) glow discharge. This discharge is in pure Ar gas at the pressure 100[mTorr], frequency 13.56[MHz] and voltage amplitude 120[V}. This model is based on the equations of continuity and electron energy conservation coupled with Poison equation. 2-dimensional model is simulated on the condition of GEC(Gaseous Electronic Conference cell). The geometry of the discharge chamber and the electrodes used in the model is cylindrically simmetric; tow cylinders for the electrodes are surrounded by the grounded chamber. It is shown that 1-dimensional model is very useful on the understanding of RF glow discharge property and of the movement of charged particles. 2-dimensional model predicts off-axis maximum structure as in the experiments and has the results in qualitatively and quantitatively good agreement with the experiments. Effects of dc self-bias voltage, guard ring and reactor geometry is discussed.

  • The optimization of electrode geometry is the most important technology for producing the ozone with high concentration and efficiency. An optimization method for a discharge gap, an air cleaner equipment, voltage apply device, pressure and air flow quantity. In our experiments, the high frequency power were applied to the discharge gap with 23-1G(Silent Discharge). The ozone characteristics was measured with air as a supplied gas, which can be used as basic data for the development of small size ozone generator.

  • This paper presents a study on the discharge capacity of geotextiles as a horizontal drain layer placed between the layers of earth fill and natural soft ground. Required discharge capacity of geotextiles as drain layers estimated by consolidation analysis is proportional to the consolidation coefficient of the ground soils and the width of the earth fills. The field discharge capacity of the geotextiles are measured by the hydraulic transmissivity test. And the results show wide variation according to the material characteristics of geotextiles, water content of the soils, vertical pressure, and etc. For the short horizontal drain length, geotextile filter mat can be used for the horizontal drain layer. And f3r the long drain($25{\sim}55m$), it is used for the drain together with Bord Drain.

  • In this paper we report on development of our original mercury-less fluorescent lamps for general lighting. These new-type lamps have multi-pairs of electrodes to maintain multi-discharge paths and to keep positive column diffused state. The omission characteristics oft the lamps were investigated. These discharge lamps were operated by pulsed discharge. By using multi-pairs of electrodes for xenon pulsed discharge fluorescent lamps, higher intensity of luminance was obtained than the conventional type of lamps using single pair of electrodes. Recently this type of lamp achieved over $9000\;cd/m^2$ and 50 lm/W.

  • On 250.199nm uv-line, witch has the potential to emit as a laser line, from a ccrf-excited He-Zn discharge with overlapped DC was carried out optimization of the discharge parameters and measurement of the optical gain. In this study the optical gain of the 250.199nm uv-line has been optained 4% for the first time. At a rf-power of 400W with the frequency 13.56MHz the optimal He-pressure indicated 2kPa.

  • The present study used the hydrodynamic numerical model, with the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) as its governing equations, to analyze overflow characteristics such as the discharge coefficient of circular-crested weir and the flow velocity and pressure distribution of weir crest. The simulation results well reproduced the overflow characteristics of the overfall of circular-crested weir both qualitatively and quantitatively. As for the discharge coefficient, rational results were yielded by the discharge coefficient equation proposed by Hager(1985) in the $H_1/R_b<0.58$ and by the discharge coefficient equation proposed by Samani and Bagheri(2014) in the $H_1/R_b>0.58$, respectively. Because most existing discharge coefficient equations were developed by disregarding the effects of the approach velocity, when they are applied, it is necessary to evaluate the effects of the approach velocity on the overflow head beforehand.

  • In this paper, 3-D reciprocating compressor is taken into flow-structure interaction analysis. The full cycle process consisted of cylinder expansion and compression has been modeled without considering flow leakage through cylinder wall. Fully-coupled FSI analysis of this compressor model was iteratively solved and gives sufficient result with the experimental test. The study is emphasized to thoroughly investigate discharge valve motion, opening and closing, in order to determine discharge valve region which is prone to have high effective stress. The cylinder pressure is successfully validated before conducting impact analyses between discharge valve and other susceptible supported structure. Velocity profile has been obtained in FSI analysis is used as initial condition to carry out further impact analyses. Stress result of discharge valve and valve spring gives preliminary estimation of higher stress area due to its impact phenomena.
