This paper presents the results of a study on an electrodeless high intensity discharge (HID) lamp system that is powered by circularly polarized microwaves (CPMs). The technique to generate CPMs enables an electrodeless high intensity discharge lamp to be turned on without the retation of the bulb but conventional electrodeless high intensity discharge lamps use rotating bulbs in order to prevent a puncture in a hot spots that are formed by the linearly polarized microwaves in the circular cavity. The technique to generate CPMs is described and the salient features of the lamp characteristics are presented.

In this paper, the discharge image of NO particles wire-cylinder type electrode in the discharge reactor where AC dielectric barrier type corona discharge occurred and horizontal and vertical signal intensity at each flourescence emission during discharge and the horizontal and vertical signal strength of NO particles at flourescence emission wavelength band[236[nm], 247[nm]], were measured were measured by ICCD Camera. In addition discharge images and signal intensities in accordance with discharge time were measured to figure out the discharge mechanism. It was found that the strongest horizontal and vertical signal intensity of NO particles were observed at 247[nm] band, but no big difference in the horizontal and vertical signal intensity in accordance with discharge time was seen. In particular, the phenomenon image occuring inside the discharge reactor and wavelength ware able to be carried based on the measured data.

In this study, the ultraviolet (UV) intensity of polymer insulator was measured using the Anti-Reflective (AR) coating lens on the occurrence of corona discharge. The UV intensity was compared before and after the AR coating. Under the 200-260[nm] of UV lens, the reflection rate before AR coating was 7.5~5.5[%] with 85-89[%] of transmission rate. After AR coating, however, the reflection rate decreased to 1.3~1.22[%] with improved transmission (97.4~97.6[%]). Then, the UV intensity by distance was measured in the polymer insulator. According to the measurement, the UV intensity increased 6.5 times at 37.5[%] of Vm/Vbd with 5[m] of distance. As distance increased, the growth rate declined. As high voltage increased, in addition, AR coating was less effective due to the count error caused by the UV sensor pulse signal overlap. Therefore, it appears that it would be more effective to detect corona discharge with 5[m] or less of distance at diagnosis of power facilities by AR coating and UV sensor sensitivity.
We constructed a wire-cylinder type pulsed corona discharge system for $NO_x$ removal, which was operated in room temperature. A emission spectrometer was built with a boxcar averager and monochrometer equipped with photo-multiplier tube detector. The sensitivity of the emission spectrometer was greatly improved by synchronizing the emission spectrometer with pulsed corona discharge system using a triggered spark-gap switch. $N_2$ spectrum($c^3{\Pi}_u{\rightarrow}X^1{\Sigma}_g{^+}$) was measured in the range of 300 - 450 nm and oxidizing OH radical emission($A^2{\Sigma}^+{\rightarrow}X^2{\Pi}$) was measured in case $N_2$ was supplied with water bubbling. As wet gas composition of inlet $N_2$ supplied in the discharge system increased, the intensity of OH emission was increased and saturated at wet gas composition 50%. We also investigated additive effect of $C_2H_4,\;H_2O,\;H_2O_2$ on the intensity of OR emission and $NO/NO_2/NO_x$ reduction and analysed the related reaction mechanism in corona discharge process. $H_2O_2$ additive increased the intensity of OH emission and $NO/NO_x$ reduction.

This study uses neon, xenon, and helium gas mixture microdischarge to determine the effects of priming particles on the neon emission characteristics in an alternate current plasma display panel (AC PDP). The infrared (823 nm) and neon emission (585 nm) intensities are measured and compared in the blue cells in the case of new discharge with priming particles or conventional discharge without priming particles, respectively. It is found that the priming particles can produce a plasma discharge effectively even under the weak electric field condition, thereby resulting in reducing the neon emission intensity remarkably without sacrificing the IR emission intensity. As a result, it is found that the Ne emission intensity is reduced by about 46.4 % but the blue visible emission intensity is increased by about 15.2 % when compared with the conventional discharge without priming particles.
In this study, plasma display panels with three different cell volumes were prepared by changing the spaces between the vertical barrier ribs into two and three times the reference structure. The discharge gap and area of the segmented ITO electrode were the same for the three cases, and Ne.20%Xe gas was used. The luminance and luminance efficiency were measured using applied voltage variations. The time evolution and intensity distribution of the infrared, which are related to the vacuum ultraviolet, were observed via intensified, charged, coupled device, and the visible-light intensity profiles were observed using PR-900 to analyze the discharge phenomena in the discharge cell.
Plasma properties of dielectric barrier discharges (DBDs) at atmospheric pressure were measured and characterized using optical emission spectroscopy. Optical emissions were measured from argon, nitrogen, or air discharges generated at 5-9 kV using 20 kHz power supply. Emissions from nitrogen molecules were markedly measured, irrespective of discharge gases. The intensity of emission peaks was increased with applied voltage and electrode gap. The short wavelength peaks (315.9 nm and 337.1 nm) measured at the middle of DBDs were significantly increased with applied voltage. The optical emission from DBDs decreased with the addition of oxygen gas, which was especially significant in argon discharge. Emission from oxygen molecules cannot be measured from air discharge and argon discharge with 4.8% oxygen. The emission intensity at 337.1 nm and 357.7 nm related with nitrogen molecule was sensitively changed with electrode types and discharge voltages. However, the pattern of argon emission spectrum was nearly the same, irrespective of electrode type, oxygen content, and discharge voltage.

We studied the effects on the ignitability of mixture, the combustion duration, and the maximum combustion pressure, of various initial combustion factors such as temperature, pressure, and each equivalence ratio in order to identify the combustion characteristics of lean mixture and improve ignitability through the proper control of the ignition energy. It is concluded that there is an optimum turbulent intensity that enables the combustion to have the best ignitability and the shortest duration under each equivalent ratio, and the combustion duration is only dependent upon the distribution and magnitude of discharge energy within the limit of inflammability.
This study was carried out to clarify the sediment export by measuring suspended solids included in streamflow during the rainy season. The study area is located in Experimental Forests, Kangwon National University, where the forest road is under construction. For this purpose, the forest watershed with construction of forest road was compared with normal forest watershed in amount of rainfall and discharge, suspended solids and discharge, and the amount of rainfall and suspended solids. The results were shown as followings. 1. The relationship of discharge and the amount of rainfall was shown as Table 3 and Fig. 3. The delay time of peak point observed in hydrograph was changed by rainfall intensity and amount of previous rainfall. That is, when there was a rain on 12. Jun(more than 20mm/hour for hours), the peak point began three hours after the rainfall intensity over 20mm/hour, and showed $1514m^3/hour$ in automatic water level recorder. In case of the 8th of Aug.(maximum rainfall intensity: 40mm/hour), the peak point of discharge was $1246m^3/hour$ in the same time with maximum rainfall intensity. And on the 20th of Aug.(the maximum rainfall intensity: 17.2mm/hour), the peak point of discharge was $1245m^3/hour$ two hours after the maximum rainfall intensity. 2. On watershed under forest road construction, the relationship between discharge and suspended solids is that suspended solids was proportionately increased by raising discharge. That is, on the 12th of Jun, the maximum of discharge per hour was $1514m^3/hour$ and 1261mg/l of suspended solids was observed an hour after peak point of discharge. And in case of 8th and 20th Aug., each of peak points is $1246m^3/hour$ and $1245m^3/hour$ by measuring time. The maximums of suspended solids measured within two watersheds were examined in value of 4952mg/l and 472mg/l at the same time. 3. During the rainy season, the concentration of suspended solids was influenced by rainfall intensity and indicated especially curve-regressional increase in case of strong rainfall intensity. In each of watersheds, the maximums of suspended solids were 1261mg/l and 125mg/l, 4952mg/l and 44mg/l, and 472mg/l and 4mg/l by the order of rain(a), (b), and (c). Two watersheds showed a remarkable difference.
