Effects of the Addition of Metallic Salts and Polyhydric Alcohols on the Formation of Zinc Complex-compound Particle (아연 착화합물 입자형성에 미치는 금속염 및 다가알코올 첨가의 영향)

  • The experiments have been performed to obtain zinc complex compound with smaller particle size, which is used as a charge control agent in manufacturing toner. Metallic salts and polyhydric alcohols have been studied to investigate their effects on the formation of different sizes of zinc complex-compound particle. Reactants such as zinc chloride and 3,5-di-tert-butyl salicylic acid have been used to form the complex compound. Polyethylene glycol (PEG-300), glycerin and ethylene glycol have been added into the zinc chloride solution beforehand to lower the reaction rate in the formation of zinc complex-compound. Zirconium (IV) oxychloride octahydrate has been mixed in the zinc chloride solution beforehand to restrain crystals from growing. When PEG-300 and zirconium (IV) oxychloride octahydrate are used to lower the reaction rate and to restrain the particle size from growing, the average particle size of zinc complex compound decreases from 5.28 to 1.84 ${\mu}m$, which is 34.9% of 5.28 ${\mu}m$.

Preparation and Physical Properties of Aqueous Polyurethane Based on Mono Methyl Ether for Skin Layer Coating (Skin layer 코팅에 사용되는 Mono Methyl Ether 기반 수성 폴리우레탄의 제조 및 물리적 성질)

  • In this study, polyether polyol polypropylene glycol and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) were synthesized based on polyrupopylene mono methyl eher (PM) for the synthesis of water - soluble polyurethane for coating on leather skin layer. After synthesis of prepolymer, PM was added at $40^{\circ}C$ to 1M, 2M, 3M, and 4M to inhibit the viscosity rise, and neutralization reaction and chain extension reaction were carried out to prepare polyurethane samples. According to the measurement results of the tensile strength, elongation and adhesive strength of the prepared sample, the tensile strength was 2.109 kgf / mm2 for PM 1M, 1.721kgf / mm2 for 4M, elongation was 496% for PM 1M, 522% for 4M, adhesion was 1.114 kgf / cm for PM 1M and 0.99 kgf / cm for 4M.

Evaluation on Strength Characteristics of Reactive Materials to Prevent the Diffusion of Organic Pollutants (유기오염물 차단을 위한 반응재료의 강도 특성 평가)

  • This paper described the strength variation characteristics to evaluate the applicability of a reactive material that can absorb organic pollutants as an underground barrier. The Strength was evaluated by unconfined compression test. The test results showed that the strength of the reactive material according to the absorption of each pollutant was in the order of water > TCE > TPH. However, the strength of the reactive material absorbing TPH was greater than that of the case absorbing TCE, when the composition ratio of polynorbornene was 12% or less. The strength of the reaction material in contact with water continued to decrease as the polynorbornene composition ratio decreased. The strength of the reaction material in contact with TCE and TPH increased as the polynorbornene composition ratio decreased from 30% to 21%, and then decreased. In other words, the optimal composition ratio of the reactive material should be applied considering the strength due to contact with pollutants according to the stress conditions occurring in the ground.

  • This study demonstrates the use of a chemical containing potassium superoxide (KO2) to convert carbon dioxide (CO$_2$) in air to oxygen (O$_2$). A oxygen generating closed-circuit SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus) removes carbon dioxide by a chemical reaction with potassium dioxide that consumes the carbon dioxide and produces oxygen. Considering the disasters, there is a need to develop strategies to enable the introduction of self-contained self rescuers (SCSR). The potassium superoxide reacts with the wears breath to produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. If the respiration rate of a person is 5 MET (metabolic equivalent), to say 30 L/min, at disaster such as fire, mass of potassium superoxide was evaluated as 33.3 g with yield and safety factor. Four researchers tested on a laboratory treadmill breathing through SCSRs in a closed circuit, it appears useable for 9 minutes.

A Study on Railway Services Improvement Using Quality Function Development Incorporating SERVPERF (서비스품질지수를 고려한 품질기능전개를 통한 철도 서비스 품질 개선에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify customers' demands in railway services system and then to seek the way to satisfy the customer expectations. Methods: We suggest a Quality Function Deployment(QFD)-based approach comprised of three stages. In first stage, SERVPERF survey was carried out to assess current positions of customer expectations in the market. Then, factor analysis was incorporated into SERVPERF to classify customer expectations for the house of quality. In the second stage, the analytic network process was used to prioritize the importance of the customer attributes. Finally, QFD was performed utilizing customer attributes and their weights. Results: The QFD identified the most important customer expectations as: accident prevention, swift reaction to accident, on-time arrivals and departures of the train. It also shows that driving capability, equipment for safety, and training for disaster are the most critical technical requirements. Conclusion: The results are useful for identifying the customers' demands in railway services systems, and they can contribute to the service quality and customer satisfaction.

Solidification of Heavy Metal Ions Using Magnesia-phosphate Cement (인산염 마그네시아 시멘트에 의한 중금속 이온 고정화)

  • Since 1980's, many mines have been closed and abandoned due to the exhaustion of deposits and declining prices of international mineral resources. Because of the lack of post management for these abandoned mines, Farm land and rivers were contaminated with heavy metal ions and sludge. We studied on the solidification/stabilization of heavy metal ions, chromium ions and lead ions, using magnesia-phosphate cement. Magnesia binders were used calcined-magnesia and dead-burned magnesia. Test specimens were prepared by mixing magnesia binder with chromium ions and lead ions and activators. We analyzed the hydrates by reaction between magnesiaphosphate cement and each heavy metal ions by XRD and SEM-EDAX, and analyzed the content of heavy metal ions in the eruption water from the specimens for the solidification and stabilization of heavy metal ions by ICP. The results was shown that calcined magnesia binder is effective in stabilization for chromium ions and dead-burned magnesia binder is effective in stabilization for lead ions.

A Physical Characteristics and Synthesis of Top Coat Polymeric Dispersion Film by Complex Polyol (복합폴리올 이용한 Top coat용 수분산 고분자 필름의 합성 및 물리적 특성)

  • Polyurethane resin used to leather coat was synthesized by the addition reaction of PPG and PTMG with different mole ratios. Physical characteristics of the synthesized polyurethane resin were measured by the SEM, FT-IR and the UTM. Increasing mole ratio of PTMG having four methylene groups caused the increase of abrasion resistance and tensile strength. The elongation was decreased. As we measured the solvent(toluene) resistance of poly urethane resin, it was found the there were no effect of PTMG mole ratios on the phyhsical properties of the resin. The viscosity was increased by ratio of PTMG mole ratio.

  • Extinction and ignition characteristics of $CH_4$-air counterflow diffusion flame were numerically investigated using a Flame-Controlling Method(FCM). A skeletal reaction mechanism, which adopts 17 species and 58 reactions, was used in the simulation. The extinction and ignition conditions of the $CH_4$-air diffusion flames were investigated with varying the global strain rate. Upper and middle branches of S-curve for the peak temperature in the inverse of the global strain rate space were obtained with the FCM. The structures of diffusion flames in the upper and middle branches of S-curve were compared. It was found that the global strain rate was not correlated with the local strain rate well in the low global strain rate region. It is expected that the FCM is very useful to obtaining the extinction and ignition condition of diffusion flame, such as fires.

  • This research is about Department of Emergency medical services students' cognition type of female 119 paramedics. The purpose of this research is to understand department of emergency medical servises students' cognition of female 119 paramedics and identify characteristics classified by types. To this end, applying Q-method, this research objectively analyzes 72 department of emergency medical services students' reaction who complete the field training about ambulance about female 119 paramedics. The result of the department of emergency medical services students recognized type of female 119 paramedics could be typed into four types. The type I is recognized as "Stamina limit type", the type II as "expert type", the type III as "guardian angel type", and the type IV as "feminine experience type". The type I has 28.3%, the type II has 12.7%, the type III has 6%, and the type IV has 3.8% explanation power, and these explain 51% of total variable. Generally department of emergency medical services students' cognition of female 119 paramedic is that they are expert in first aid but students' cognition is negative because of female 119 paramedic's limit of stamina, exposure to danger, and giving birth and infant care thus we should arrange solution of these cognition.

Evaluation of the Prediction Performance of FDS Combustion Models for the CO Concentration of Gas Fires in a Compartment (구획실 내 가스연료 화재의 CO 농도에 대한 FDS 연소모델의 예측성능 평가)

  • The prediction performance of combustion models in the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) were evaluated by comparing with experiment for compartment propane gas fires. The mixture fraction model in the FDS v5.5.3 and Eddy Dissipation Concept (EDC) model in the FDS v6.6.3 were adopted in the simulations. Four chemical reaction mechanisms, such as 1-step Mixing Controlled, 2-step Mixing Controlled, 3-step Mixing Controlled and 3-step Mixed (Mixing Controlled + finite chemical reactions) reactions, were implemented in the EDC model. The simulation results with each combustion model showed similar level for the temperature inside the compartment. The prediction performance of FDS with each combustion model showed significant differences for the CO concentration while no distinguished differences were identified for the $O_2$ and $CO_2$ concentrations. The EDC 3-step Mixing Controlled largely over-predicted the CO concentration obtained by experiment and the mixture fraction model under-predicted the experiment slightly. The EDC 3-step Mixed showed the best prediction performance for the CO concentration and the EDC 2-step Mixing Controlled also predicted the CO concentration reasonably. The EDC 1-step Mixing Controlled significantly under-predict the experimental CO concentration when the previously suggested CO yield was adopted. The FDS simulation with the EDC 1-step Mixing Controlled showed difficulties in predicting the $CO_2$ concentration when the CO yield was modified to predict the CO concentration reasonably.
