Evaluation of the influence of pillar width on the stability of a twin tunnel (필라폭이 병설터널의 안정성에 미치는 영향 평가)

  • Recently, considering the aspects of disaster prevention and environmental damage, the construction of a twin tunnel is increasing. When constructing a twin tunnel, the stresses are concentrated at the pillar so that stability of the tunnel is decreased. Since the previous studies on the behavior of a twin tunnel pillar are mainly restricted to the estimation of the tunnel behavior and the analysis of surface settlement, there is a limit to a quantitative stability estimation of the pillar. Therefore, it was quantitatively investigated how the pillar width of a twin tunnel affects its stability. To ensure this end, global tunnel safety factors obtained numerically using shear strength reduction technique, local safety factors of a pillar using the equation that Matsuda et al. suggested, and strength/stress ratios of the pillar were estimated and their results were analyzed for two sections with different rock covers. For a reasonable design of a twin tunnel pillar, it was turned out that strength/stress ratio, the local pillar safety factor, and global tunnel safety factor should be used interrelatedly rather than independently.

  • The purpose of this study is to look at the case of the German compensation system for farmers' accidents and to build a basic scheme in our country's compensation system for farmers' accidents. When you view examples of Germany, the social insurance scheme for farmers accidents in korea should be design as an independent institution from the existing industrial accident insurance, and it comes to relationships with other social insurance system, preferably with complementary personalities. A general rule of the compensation system applies to all farmers in principle but the coverage limits part-time farmers. Financial burden consists of the mix of insurance premium and state aid. The type and level of benefits is similar to the current industrial accident insurance, which give priority to places on economic security for keeping farmworks, such as cost for using temporary farmers, rather than income loss. In terms of financial system, pay-as-you-go system would be better because of immediate payment with the introduction of the compensation system. The compensation system might be managed and administrated by the existing nationwide organization. Of course, for operating of system review and further research on the technical details such as premium issues and funding problems of government support, the exact classification of the target coverage, premiums based on estimated income for the farmers' estimation, the exact statistical data on the accumulation of agricultural disaster is needed.

Methods to Improve the Design of Household Fire Extinguishers through an Empirical Analysis of Consumer Compatibility (소비자의 적합성 실증분석을 통한 가정용 소화기의 디자인 개선방안)

  • Households are categorized as exceptions in the Fire Services Act; oftentimes, the 'Golden Time' is missed at the early stages of a fire, resulting in loss of life. As such, due to the high number of deaths caused by household fires, the Korean government amended the Fire Services Act to make it mandatory for all detached houses to be equipped with a fire extinguisher from 2017 onwards. Only 34.8% of households were properly equipped with a fire extinguisher, according to the 2018 factual survey on fire extinguishing facilities in households conducted by the Fire Department. Fire extinguishers are crucial in case of fire but many households avoid them because they are red and have a rough aesthetic, which does not suit the household environment. There is now a need for diverse simple fire extinguisher designs so that they can be used as interior décor in the household in the day-to-day while being available for putting out a fire when necessary. If fire extinguishers have designs that go well with any household space like other decorative ornaments, this will greatly increase consumers' motivation to purchase them. It is greatly anticipated that various companies will work on developing designs for fire extinguishers to commercialize them for households in the future.

Statistical Characteristics for Longitudinal Friction Behavior of Rail Fastening System for Concrete Track (콘크리트 궤도용 레일체결장치의 종방향 마찰거동에 대한 통계적 특성)

  • In the case of CWR (Continuous welded rail) located on the railway bridge, the CWR has additional axial force due to interaction of bridge and track. Therefore, the CWR tracks located on the bridge have to secure the safety of running train and CWR track through mitigating influence for interaction of bridge and track. The railway design guide in Korea (KR C-08080) provides a certain value for property of longitudinal friction behavior of rail fastening system that is major parameter of interaction behavior by applying European codes. However, in order to apply to domestic railway, it is necessary to review property characteristics of the rail fastening system in actual use. In this paper, the experiment for longitudinal friction behavior of rail fastener applied to concrete track on the railway bridge in Korea was carried out, and statistical characteristic for property of the rail fastener was analyzed from the result of the experiment.

  • The rural population is aging and farmers need to aim for mass production. This study examined the work efficiency of clamping and protecting crops. Strong winds are a risk for damage, but there are no reports of studies of the geometric design problem for vegetation. The accuracy of the simulation to obtain a load applied to the actual support and index was examined. The model was selected according to its strength based on the reliability of the simulation. Also acts in force of 0.1N to 0.6N, which can withstand the force of 1.29N with the results of this thesis research. The fixed clamp fixing for agricultural crops designed as a support was examined. These results are expected to help shorten working hours, and improve the growth of crops and disaster prevention.

A Study on Drainage Capability of Large Capacity Outlet and Spillway of Dams in Korea (한국댐의 대용량 배수시설 및 Spillway 배수능력에 관한 조사연구)

  • Synopsis: This study has systemized the results of construction and classification with 656 large dams in Korea which were defined in ICOLD provision. Especially, checking up the drainage capability of large capacity outlets and its of spillway, this paper suggests the planning of outflow discharge with large capacity outlets and spillway in future. The results of this study are following as; 1. The classification by purposes in Korea shows that irrigation dams are 94% in rate(607 dams), jydropower and multipurpose dams are 2% (14 dams), municipal and industrial water supply dams are 4% (26 dams). 2. In design of proposed outflow discharge, spillways of irrigation dams were selected outflow discharge on 100 years return period, those of municipal and industrial water supply dmas 200 years and those of hydropower and multipurpose dams 500 years or 1000 years. 3. Emergency spillway should be considered in the fields of disaster prevention engineering and the rank of return periods for the emergency proposed out flow discharge was suggested. 4. Some of problems are suggested for this subject in future.

Numerical Study on the Effect of Steel Pipe Specification on Pile Behaviour (강관말뚝의 제원이 말뚝거동에 미치는 영향에 관한 수치해석 연구)

  • In this study, three dimensional numerical analyses were carried out to predict axial (pullout and compressive) and lateral behavior of rock-socketed steel pipe pile varying diameter, wall thickness, and length. As a result of the pile pullout analyses, it was confirmed that the pullout displacement was inversely proportional to the pile diameter for given pile length, thickness, pullout load. Load-settlement relationship of the compressive pile analyses revealed that the effect of pile thickness on pile resistance was more significant than that of pile diameter. In addition, laterally loaded pile analyses showed that pile lateral resistance is influenced above all else by pile diameter. This study showed that it is necessary to conduct numerical analyses to identify the effects of pile diameter, wall thickness, and pile length on the steel pipe pile behavior as a preliminary pile design under specified loading conditions.

A study on cross sectional characteristics and available area for using the lower space in TBM road tunnels (TBM 도로터널의 단면특성 및 하부공간 활용을 위한 유효면적 검토)

  • For the application TBM tunneling method, Both tunnel design standard and case study designed & constructed in domestic and foreign have been conducted. According to the study, the number of lane and inner shape (single or duplex) vary depending on the volume of traffic. Also extra space located in the top and bottom of tunnel is used for a multipurpose such as ventilation, disaster prevention, maintenance and administration. To find area ratio according to the components of road TBM tunnel, a standard section was considered as a two-lane road. Then, the analysis of area ratio of this section which consists of components for clearance, extra space in upper and lower tunnel was carried on two widths of shoulder. In addition, after a structural analysis, a thickness requirement of lower slab which is essential for road tunnel was derived on a few supporting types. Through correlation analysis, the ranges of available cross-sectional area between slab thickness and lower extra space of the tunnel was presented.

Development of Probabilistic Flood Risk Map Considering Uncertainty of Levee Break (하천제방 붕괴의 불확실성을 고려한 확률론적 홍수위험지도 개발)

  • In this paper, probabilistic flood risk maps were produced for levee break caused by possible flood scenarios. The results of the previous studies were employed for flood stages corresponding to hydrological extreme event quantified uncertainties and then predicted the location of a levee breach. The breach width was estimated by combining empirical equation considered constant width and numerical modeling considered uncertainties on compound geotechnical component. Accordingly, probabilistic breach outflow was computed and probabilistic inundation map was produced by 100 runs of 2D inundation simulation based on reliability analysis. The final probabilistic flood risk map was produced by combining probabilistic inundation map based on flood hazard mapping methodology. The outcomes of the study would be effective in establishing specified emergency actin plan (EAP) and expect to suggest more economical and stable design index.

Anti-Fraud in International Supply Chain Finance: Focusing on Moneual Case

  • Purpose - This study analyzes the scope of due diligence and risks of banks and K-Sure in trade finance covered by EFF focusing on Moneual case, one of the latest and biggest trade finance fraud cases in Korea. Also, we suggest anti-fraud measures in trade finance on the part of banks and K-Sure in order to give them a desirable way of due diligence and reasonable risk management of export insurance. Design/methodology - Based on Moneual case of trade finance fraud, this study employs the methodology of an extended literature review and analysis of court decisions. Findings - Seoul High Court of Korea failed to decide whether K-Sure was wholly obliged to pay the insurance against the banks' EFF claims, but issued a compulsory mediation order, judging that both the banks and K-Sure were responsible by 50:50. The court may have judged that both the parties had lacked their due diligence in the trade finance. It is quite difficult for trade finance providers to manually investigate whether the transaction is suspected of trade finance fraud, so digitalization of trade finance which can facilitate the prevention and detection of trade fraud needs to be realized quickly. Since there has been no international rule available for open account trade finance up till now, clearly stipulated EFF terms on the exporter's genuine export obligation might have protected K-Sure from the disaster. Originality/value - This study investigates the due diligence of the banks and K-Sure in Moneual case which few researchers have considered, to the best of our knowledge. This study also suggests several practical methods (including block chain) to prevent complicating trade finance fraud amid increasing use of an open account, and further offers reasonable risk management of EFF employing international factoring rule which is also related to problematic open account trade finance.
