Direction Finding Method of the Uniform Circular Array Antenna Using the Pattern of Phase Differences (원형배열 안테나의 위상차 패턴을 이용한 방향탐지 기법)

  • In this paper, we have studied a direction finding method of the radio signal by comparing the phase difference and its pattern from the uniform circular array antenna. In the phase comparison direction finding, if the length of the antenna baseline is longer than 0.5 wavelength of the incident signal, azimuth ambiguity occurs in which two or more azimuth angles are calculated in the same phase difference. The azimuthal ambiguity is removed by fusing the phase difference of the 5 antennas. The developed ambiguity elimination technology reduces the azimuth error where the antenna baseline is shorter than 1.236 wavelength in the uniform circular array with five antennas. This algorithm is very useful for the design of direction finder of an electronic information system.

A vision system for autonomous material handling by static and dynamic range finding (정적 및 동적 range 검출에 의한 원료 처리 자동화용 vision 시스템)

  • Until now, considerable progress has been made in the application of range finding techanique performing direct 3-D measurement from the object. However, ther are few use of the method in the area of the application of material handing. We present a range finding vision system consisting of static and dynamic range finders to automate a reclaimer used for material handling. A static range finder detects range data of the front part of the piles of material, and a height map is obtained from the proposed image processing algorithm. The height map is used to calculate the optimal job path as features for required information for material handling function. A dynamic range finder attached on the side of the arm of the reclaimer detects the change of the local properties of the material with the handling function, which is used for avoiding collision and detecting the ending point for changing direction. the developed vision systm was applied to a 1/20 simulator and the results of test show that it is appropriate to use for automating the material handling.

Verification of Camera-Image-Based Target-Tracking Algorithm for Mobile Surveillance Robot Using Virtual Simulation (가상 시뮬레이션을 이용한 기동형 경계 로봇의 영상 기반 목표추적 알고리즘 검증)

  • In this study, a 3-axis camera system design is proposed for application to an existing 2-axis surveillance robot. A camera-image-based target-tracking algorithm for this robot has also been proposed. The algorithm has been validated using a virtual simulation. In the algorithm, the heading direction vector of the camera system in the mobile surveillance robot is obtained by the position error between the center of the view finder and the center of the object in the camera image. By using the heading direction vector of the camera system, the desired pan and tilt angles for target-tracking and the desired roll angle for the stabilization of the camera image are obtained through inverse kinematics. The algorithm has been validated using a virtual simulation model based on MATLAB and ADAMS by checking the corresponding movement of the robot to the target motion and the virtual image error of the view finder.

  • The direction finder is an important device for an electronic support(ES) system because it is responsible for finding the direction of an emitter. The higher the accuracy of the direction finding, the higher the vitality of the weapon system with the ES system. Recently, the direction error occurred in the operating shipboard ES system when direction finding was performed for the signal with a pulse width of 200 ns. Therefore, this paper proposes, an improved method to reduce the direction error for shipboard ES systems. The proposed method was applied to the operating shipboard ES system and a field test was performed. The results of the field test showed that the direction error was reduced significantly for the signal with a pulse width of 200 ns.

  • This paper introduces a robot platform which can do weeding while traveling between rice seedlings stably against irregular land surface of a paddy field. Also, an autonomous navigation technique that can track on stable state without any damage of the seedlings in the working area is proposed. Detection of the rice seedlings and avoidance knocking down by the robot platform is achieved by the sensor fusion of a laser range finder (LRF) and an inertial measurement unit (IMU). These sensors are also used to control navigating direction of the robot to keep going along the column of rice seedling consistently. Deviation of the robot direction from the rice column that is sensed by the LRF is fed back to a proportional and derivative controller to obtain stable adjustment of navigating direction and get proper returning speed of the robot to the rice column.

  • The purposes of this research is designing an FRBR-based information search services based on users' needs and behaviors. Regarding this matter, this study first extensively analysed literature related to the FRBR Model. On that basis, this study categorized foreign cases by application methods of FRBR Model, and identified their characteristics. Also this study analysed how Korean users evaluated the FRBR-based information search services. Afterwards, this study discussed the overall development direction before we develop the FRBR search service in earnest. In those terms, this study selected four types of FRBR-based search services(FictionFinder, AustLit, Perseus Digital Library, Virtua) and analysed each Model's application method. Finally, this study analysed user preference of the categorization using four undergraduate and four postgraduate students of the Department of Library and Information Science.

  • It is very difficult to mechanize tomato harvesting because identifying a tomato partly covered with leaves and stalks is not easy. This research was conducted to develop tomato harvesting robot which can identify a target tomato, determine its three dimensional position, and harvest it in a limited time. Followings were major findings in this study. The first visual system of the harvesting robot was composed of two CCD cameras, however, this could not detect tomatoes which are not seen on the view finder of the camera especially those partly covered by leaves or stalks. The second visual device, combined with two CCD cameras and pan/tilt procedures was designed to minimize the positioning errors within ${\pm}10mm$, but this is still not enough to detect tomatoes partly covered with leaves etc. Finally, laser distance detector was added to the visual system that could reduce the position detecting errors within 10mm in X-Y direction and 5mm in Z direction for the partly covered tomatoes.

  • In December of 1997, Korea Aerospace Research Institute begin to develope the conceptual design of Kompsat2 as the Kompsat1 design is nearly completed. Basic direction of this design was set up to utilized the heritage of Kompsat1 and modify the payload module to accommodate the new high resolution space borne camera. And in the early stage of this design, total system configuration design study was conducted based on 1st level payload information. In this paper, mechanical system design at various stage is documented and this will be used as a path finder or guidelines in the future feasibility study or conceptual design.

  • The problem considered is that of calculating the angles of arrival of a multimoded signal at an antenna array from simultaneous measurements of the amplitude and the phase of the signal in each element of the array. The method of wavefront analysis 15 applied to a 4-element direction finder of the Adcock type. A simulated problem is constructed with the aid of suitable computer programs developed here.

  • At present the identification of vessels is still depending on the OOW (Officer Of Wateh) in VTS (Vessel Traffic Service), which is completed by radar, and also by the combination of VHF radio and VHF direction finder. However, with the development of port transportation and economic, this conventional way of identification can't satisfy more and more request for the information that the VTS needs from the vessels. In such a case, the AIS(Automatic Identification System) precept which is based on STDMA (Self-organized Time Division Multiple Access) technique is put forward by IMO (International Maritime Organization). AIS can automatically provide the information, including own ship's identification, type, position, course, speed, and other information to the appropriately equipped coast station and other ships. At the same time it can also automatically monitor and track the nearby ships similarly fitted with AIS. On the basis of describing the whole comprising and the format of transmission information of AIS, this paper mainly studies the key communication techniques in AIS, such as STDMA protocol, net synchronization and GMSK(Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying)technique, and so on. At last this paper briefly introduces the recommendation decided by IMO on forcing the sea-going ships to fixed with AIS equipments, and it continuos with the unexploited potential of AIS if it applies in VTS.
