  • In this paper, we present our implementation of the direct camera model (image to ground) for SPOT5 and use it to assess the geometric accuracy of SPOT5 imagery. Our assessment confirms the location accuracy of SPOT5 imagery (without use of GCPs) is less than 50m. We further introduce a few attitude parameters to refine the camera model with GCPs. The model is applied to two SPOT5 supermode images, one near vertical, incidence angle of 3 degrees, and one far oblique, incidence angle of 27 degrees. The results show that accuracy (rms of check points) of about one pixel (2.5m) can be achieved with about 4 GCPs by using only 3 parameters to correct the yaw, pitch and roll of the satellite.

  • A 13-year-old male was diagnosed with a glenoid fracture following direct shoulder trauma, for which surgical treatment was considered. After referral to a center for pediatric orthopedic care, physical examination, contralateral shoulder X-ray, and detailed computed tomography examination ruled out the presence of fracture; these findings were later confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. Normal ossification patterns in the adolescent shoulder may simulate a fracture in traumatic settings. To accurately diagnose and manage pediatric shoulder pathology, orthopedic surgeons must be aware of the normal anatomy of the growing shoulder, its secondary ossification centers, and growth plates.

  • Intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator had been the only approved treatment for acute ischemic stroke since its approval in 1995. However, the restrictive time window, numerous contraindications, and its low recanalization rate were all limitations of this modality. Under those circumstances, endovascular stroke therapy went through a great evolution during the past two decades of intravenous thrombolysis. The results of the 2013 randomized trials for endovascular stroke therapy were neutral, although they were limited by insufficient imaging screening at enrollment, early-generation devices with less efficacy, and treatment delays. Huge progress was made in 2015, as there were five randomized clinical trials which all demonstrated the safety and efficacy of endovascular stroke treatment. Despite differences in detail patient enrollment criteria, all 5 trials employed key factors for good functional recovery; (1) screening with non-invasive imaging to identify the proximal occlusion and exclude a large infarct core, (2) using highly effective modern thrombectomy devices mainly with stent retriever, and (3) establishment of a fast workflow to achieve effective reperfusion. The results of those trials indicate that modern thrombectomy devices can allow for faster and more effective reperfusion, which can lead to improved clinical outcomes compared to intravenous thrombolysis alone. These advances in mechanical thrombectomy are promising in the global fight against ischemic stroke-related disability and mortality. Two current mainstreams among such mechanical thrombectomy techniques, "stent retriever thrombectomy" and "direct clot aspiration", are the topic of this review. Stent retriever thrombectomy using Solitaire and Trevo retriever will be firstly discussed. And, the commonalities and the differences between two major clot aspiration thrombectomy techniques; a direct aspiration first pass technique (ADAPT) and forced arterial suction thrombectomy (FAST), will be additionally explained. Finally, details regarding the combination of direct clot aspiration and stent retriever thrombectomy, the switching strategy and the Solumbra technique, will be described.

  • In dentistry. RadioVisioGraphy was introduced as a first electronic dental x-ray imaging modality in 1989. Thereafter. many types of direct digital radiographic system have been produced in the last decade. They are based either on charge-coupled device(CCD) or on storage phosphor technology. In addition. new types of digital radiographic system using amorphous selenium. image intensifier etc. are under development. Advantages of digital radiographic system are elimination of chemical processing, reduction in radiation dose. image processing, computer storage. electronic transfer of images and so on. Image processing includes image enhancement. image reconstruction. digital subtraction, etc. Especially digital subtraction and reconstruction can be applied in many aspects of clinical practice and research. Electronic transfer of images enables filmless dental hospital and teleradiology/teledentistry system. Since the first image management and communications system(IMACS) for dentomaxillofacial radiology was reported in 1992. IMACS in dental hospital has been increasing. Meanwhile. researches about computer-assisted diagnosis, such as structural analysis of bone trabecular patterns of mandible. feature extraction, automated identification of normal landmarks on cephalometric radiograph and automated image analysis for caries or periodontitis. have been performed actively in the last decade. Further developments in digital radiographic imaging modalities. image transmission system. imaging processing and automated analysis software will change the traditional clinical dental practice in the 21st century.

  • Purpose: To prove feasibility of proton chemical shift imaging (lH CSI) during stereotactic procedure, authors performed IH CSI in combination with a stereotactic headframe and selected targets according to local metabolic information, evaluated the pathologic results. Methods: The 1H CSI directed stereotactic biopsy was performed in five patients. 1H CSI was performed before conventional stereotactic MRI with gadolinium enhancement for stereotactic coordinates. The metabolite images expressed as integral ratios, Cho/Cr and Lac/Cr, were displayed in different colors. The stereotactic target coordinates were correlated with the coordinates from the 1H CSI images. Results: The final pathologic results obtained were concordant with the local metabolic information from 1H CSI. We believe that 1H CSI-directed stereotatic biopsy has the potential to significantly improve the accuracy of stereotactic biopsy targeting. Conclusions : Metabolic signals derived from 1H CSI could give us more direct clues for stereotactic target selection during the subsequent conventional stereotactic MR imaging. 1H CSI was feasible with the stereotatic headframe in place. The final pathologic results obtained were concordant with the local metabolic information from 1H CSI. • The folate receptor (FR) is a promising cell membrane-associated target for nuclear imaging of various cancers (via imaging $FR-{\alpha}$) and potentially also inflammatory diseases (via imaging $FR-{\beta}$), through the use of folic acid-based radioconjugates. However, there have been several drawbacks of previously reported radioconjugates, such as a short half-life of the radiolabel ($^{68}Ga\;t_{1/2}$ 68 min), a complex and time-consuming multistep radiosynthesis, and a high renal uptake of radiolabeled folate derivatives. The goal of this study was to develop an imaging probe by directly labeling folate with radioactive iodine without using an extra prosthetic group. The radiolabeling of folate was optimized using various labeling conditions and the labeled tracers were isolated by high-performance liquid chromatography. The in vitro stability of labeled folate was checked in phosphate-buffered saline and serum. The tumor-targeting efficacy of the probe was also evaluated by biodistribution studies using a murine 4T1 tumor model.

  • Confirming the direct link between neural circuit activity and animal behavior has been a principal aim of neuroscience. The genetically encoded calcium indicator (GECI), which binds to calcium ions and emits fluorescence visualizing intracellular calcium concentration, enables detection of in vivo neuronal firing activity. Various GECIs have been developed and can be chosen for diverse purposes. These GECI-based signals can be acquired by several tools including two-photon microscopy and microendoscopy for precise or wide imaging at cellular to synaptic levels. In addition, the images from GECI signals can be analyzed with open source codes including constrained non-negative matrix factorization for endoscopy data (CNMF_E) and miniscope 1-photon-based calcium imaging signal extraction pipeline (MIN1PIPE), and considering parameters of the imaged brain regions (e.g., diameter or shape of soma or the resolution of recorded images), the real-time activity of each cell can be acquired and linked with animal behaviors. As a result, GECI signal analysis can be a powerful tool for revealing the functions of neuronal circuits related to specific behaviors.

  • Introduction: Soft-tissue impingement syndrome is now increasingly recognized as a significant cause of the chronic ankle pain. As a method to detect soft-tissue ankle impingement, a characteristic history and physical examination, routine MR imaging, and direct MR arthrography were used. The efficacy of routine MR imaging has been controversial for usefulness because of low sensitivity and specificity. Direct MR artrhography was recommaned for diagnosis because of the highest sensitivity, specificity and accuracy, but it requires an invasive procedure. The purpose of this study is to investigate the diagnostic accuracy of Fat suppressed, contrast enhanced, three-dimensional fast gradient recalled acquisition in the steady state with rediofrequency spoiling magnetic resonance imaging(CE 3D-FSPGR MRI) and to evaluate the clinical outcome of the arthroscopic treatment in assessing soft-tissue impingement associated with trauma of the ankle. Materials and Methods: We reviewed 38 patients who had arthroscopic evaluations and preoperative magnetic resonance imaging studies(3D-FSPGR MRI) for post-traumatic chronic ankle pain between January 2000 and August 2002. Among them, 24 patients had osteochondral lesion, lateral instability, loose body, malunion of lateral malleoli, and peroneal tendon dislocation. The patient group consisted of 23 men and 15 women with the average age of 34 years(16-81 years). The mean time interval from the initial trauma to the operation was 15.5 months(3 to 40 months), The mean follow-up duration of the assessment was 15.6months(12-48 months). MRI was simultaneously reviewed by two radiologists blinded to the clinical diagnosis. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of MRI was obtained from radiologic and arthroscopic finding. Arthroscopic debridement and additional operation for associated disease were performed. We used a standard protocol to evaluate patients before the operation and at follow-up which includes American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society Ankle-Hindfoot Score. Results: For the assessment of the synovitis and soft tissue impingement, fat suppressed CE 3D-FSPGR MR imaging had the sensitivity of 91.9%, the specificity of 84.4 and the accuracy of 87.5%. AOFAS Ankle-Hindfoot Score of preoperative state was 69.2, and the mean score of the last follow-up was 89.1. These were assessed as having 50% excellent(90-100) and 50% good(75-89). The presence of other associated disease didn't show the statistically significant difference(>0.05). Conclusion: Fat suppressed CE 3D-FSPGR MR imaging is useful method comparable to MR arthrography for diagnosis of synovitis or soft-tissue impingement, and arthroscopic debridement results in good clinical outcome.

  • At present, the study of direct digital X-ray detector and indirect digital X-ray detector proceed actively. But it needs high thickness and high voltage in selenium for high ionization rate. Therefore, we carried out the study of electric characteristics of a-Se with additive ratio of Iodine in drafting study for developing Hybrid X -ray Sensor for complementing direct digital X -ray detector and indirect digital X-ray detector in this paper. On this, there are formed Amorphous selenium multi-layers by sticking phosphor layer$(Gd_{2}O_{2}S(Eu^{2+}))$ using optical adhesives of EFIRON Co. Amorphous selenium multi-layers having dielectric layer(parylene) has characteristics of low dark-current, high X-ray sensitivity. So we can acquired a enhanced signal to noise ratio. We make Amorphous selenium multi-layers with $30{\mu}m$ thickness on glass.
