In many drinking water treatment plants, chlorination process is one of the main techniques used for the disinfection of water. This disinfecting treatment leads to the formation of haloacetic acid (HAAs). In this study, headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) was studied as a possible alternative to liquid-liquid extraction for the analysis of HAAs in drinking water. The method involves direct derivatization of the acids to their methyl esters without methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) extraction, followed by HS-SPME with a $2cm-50/30{\mu}m$ divinylbenzene/carboxen/polydimethylsiloxane fiber. The effects of experimental parameters such as selection of SPME fiber, the volume of sulphuric acid and methanol, derivatization temperature and time, the addition of salts, extraction temperature and time, and desorption time on the analysis were investigated. Analytical parameters such as linearity, repeatability and limit of detection were also evaluated. The $2cm-50/30{\mu}m$-divinylbenzene/carboxen/polydimethylsiloxane fiber, sulphuric acid of 1ml, methanol of 3ml, derivatization temperature of $50^{\circ}C$ derivatization time of 2hrs, sodium chloride salt of 10g, extraction time of 30 minutes, extraction temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and desorption time of 1 minute at $260^{\circ}C$ were selected as the optimal experimental conditions for the analysis of HAAs. The linearities ($r^2$), relative standard deviations (%RSD) and limits of detection (LOD) for HAAs were 0.9978~0.9991, 1.1~9.8% and $0.05{\sim}0.2{\mu}g/l$, respectively.
To understand forest structures, the Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) instrument have been employed to measure and monitor forest canopy with feasibility of acquiring three dimensional canopy structure information. This study tried to examine the potential of GLAS dataset in measuring forest canopy structures, particularly maximum canopy height estimation. To estimate maximum canopy height using feasible GLAS dataset, we simply used difference between signal start and ground peak derived from Gaussian decomposition method. After estimation procedure, maximum canopy height was derived from airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data and it was applied to evaluate the accuracy of that of GLAS estimation. In addition, several influences, such as topographical and biophysical factors, were analyzed and discussed to explain error sources of direct maximum canopy height estimation using GLAS data. In the result of estimation using direct method, a root mean square error (RMSE) was estimated at 8.15 m. The estimation tended to be overestimated when comparing to derivations of airborne LiDAR. According to the result of error occurrences analysis, we need to consider these error sources, particularly terrain slope within GLAS footprint, and to apply statistical regression approach based on various parameters from a Gaussian decomposition for accurate and reliable maximum canopy height estimation.

High performance induction motor drives are driven by two advanced control methods: vector control and direct torque control (DTC). In order to apply the control methods to the speed/position control systems, the informations on rotor speed and rotor or stator flux are required. The speed is measured by encoder, and the rotor or stator flux is estimated by using the motor parameters and measured currents. The control input generated on the basis of the information that is provided by abnormal sensors should be far from the desired value and deteriorates the overall control perfonnance. In this paper, the effects of sensor faults on the motor variables and the control performance of induction motor drives are analyzed by both theoretical approach and simulation study. The presented analysis results could be utilized for the purpose of developing a fault detection and isolation scheme in induction motor drives.
Purpose: To compare the diagnostic accuracy for the detection of root fractures in CMOS-based digital periapical images with conventional film-based periapical images. Materials and Methods: Sixty extracted single-root human teeth with closed apices were prepared endodontically and divided into two groups; artificially induced vertical root fracture group and control group. All radiographs were obtained using the paralleling technique. The radiographs were examined by 4 observers three times within a 4 week interval. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was carried out using data obtained from four observers. Intra- and inter-examiner agreements were computed using kappa analysis. Results: The area under the ROC curve (Az) was used as an indicator of the diagnostic accuracy of the imaging system. Az values were as follows: direct-digital images; 0.93, film-based images; 0.92, and inverted digital images; 0.91. There was no significant difference between imaging modalities (P<0.05). The kappa value of inter-observer agreement was 0.42 (range: 0.28-0.60) and intra-observer agreement was 0.57 (range: 0.44-0.75). Conclusion : There is no statistical difference in diagnostic accuracy for the detection of vertical root fractures between digital periapical images and conventional periapical images. The results indicate that the CMOS sensor is a good image detector for the evaluation of vertical root fractures.

Researches for oceans are limited to military purpose such as underwater sound detection and tracking system. Underwater acoustic communications with low-probability-of-interception (LPI) covert characteristics were received much attention recently. Covert communications are conducted at a low received signal-to-noise ratio to prevent interception or detection by an eavesdropper. This paper proposed optimal covert communication model based on direct sequence spread spectrum for underwater environments. Spread spectrum signals may be used for data transmission on underwater acoustic channels to achieve reliable transmission by suppressing the detrimental effect of interference and self-interference due to jamming and multipath propagation. The characteristics of the underwater acoustic channel present special problems in the design of covert communication systems. To improve performance and probability of interception, we applied BCJR(Bahl, Cocke, Jelinek, Raviv) decoding method and the direct sequence spread spectrum technology in low SNR. Also, we compared the performance between conventional model and proposed model based on turbo equalization by simulation and lake experiment.
This paper presents the design and simulation of a three-dimensional pixel-by-pixel scanning light detection and ranging (LIDAR) system with a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) scanning mirror and direct sequence optical code division multiple access (DS-OCDMA) techniques. It measures a frame with $848{\times}480$ pixels at a refresh rate of 60 fps. The emitted laser pulse waves of each pixel are coded with DS-OCDMA techniques. The coded laser pulse waves include the pixel's position in the frame, and a checksum. The LIDAR emits the coded laser pulse waves periodically, without idle listening time to receive returning light at the receiver. The MEMS scanning mirror is used to deflect and steer the coded laser pulse waves to a specific target point. When all the pixels in a frame have been processed, the travel time is used by the pixel-by-pixel scanning LIDAR to generate point cloud data as the measured result.
By using ionic liquid 1-hexylpyridinium hexafluorophosphate ($HPPF_6$) based carbon ionic liquid electrode (CILE) as the substrate electrode, a $CoMoO_4$ nanorods and myoglobin (Mb) composite was casted on the surface of CILE with chitosan (CTS) as the film forming material to obtain the modified electrode (CTS/$CoMoO_4$-Mb/CILE). Spectroscopic results indicated that Mb retained its native structures without any conformational changes after mixed with $CoMoO_4$ nanorods and CTS. Electrochemical behaviors of Mb on the electrode were carefully investigated by cyclic voltammetry with a pair of well-defined redox peaks from the heme Fe(III)/Fe(II) redox center of Mb appeared, which indicated that direct electron transfer between Mb and CILE was realized. Electrochemical parameters such as the electron transfer number (n), charge transfer coefficient (${\alpha}$) and electron transfer rate constant ($k_s$) were estimated by cyclic voltammetry with the results as 1.09, 0.53 and 1.16 $s^{-1}$, respectively. The Mb modified electrode showed good electrocatalytic ability toward the reduction of trichloroacetic acid in the concentration range from 0.1 to 32.0 mmol $L^{-1}$ with the detection limit as 0.036 mmol $L^{-1}$ ($3{\sigma}$), and the reduction of $H_2O_2$ in the concentration range from 0.12 to 397.0 ${\mu}mol\;L^{-1}$ with the detection limit as 0.0426 ${\mu}mol\;L^{-1}$ ($3{\sigma}$).

In this paper, the theoretical background and the specific implementation method of a compressive receiver for RFID signal detection as well as the design method of DDL(Dispersive Delay Line) and chirp LO are described. DDL, which is one of the main components of the compressive receiver, is designed to have $13{\mu}s$ dispersive delay time and 6 MHz bandwidth using the SAW technique based on $LiNbO_3$ material. The chirp LO is designed using DDS(Direct Digital Synthesizer). Also the compressive receiver is fabricated to be installed into the RFID reader. Test results show the maximum frequency error of 25 kHz for single signal input, the receiver sensitivity of -44 dBm, and the maximum frequency error is 75 kHz for 6 multi-tone input signals. These results indicate that the fabricated compressive receiver is working well even in dense RFID operating environments.

The CJ6 bacterial strain, which possesses strong antifungal activity, was isolated from meju and identified as Bacillus polyfermenticus based on Gram staining, biochemical properties, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. B. polyfermenticus CJ6 showed antimicrobial activity against the various pathogenic molds, yeasts, and bacteria. Antifungal activity from B. polyfermenticus CJ6 was reduced after 24 hr at $70^{\circ}C$ but antifungal activity was not completely destroyed. The antifungal activity was stable in the pH range of $3.0{\sim}9.0$, and inactivated by proteinase K, protease, and ${\alpha}$-chymotrypsin, which indicate its proteinaceous nature. The apparent molecular masses of the partially purified antifungal compound, as indicated by using the direct detection method in Tricine-SDS-PAGE, was approximately 1.4 kDa.
Enrofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic approved for the treatment of infections in animals. Because of the side effects to consumers of animal products, the maximum residue limits (MRLs) of enrofloxacin in animal tissues for consumption are regulated. In this study, a monoclonal antibody (mAb) against enrofloxacin was prepared and characterized for the development of a direct competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The obtained mAb, Enro44, was highly specific for enrofloxacin and had a 50% inhibition concentration ($IC_{50}$) of 1.99 ng/ml in a competitive ELISA, and the limit of detection (LOD) was 0.50 ng/ml. The cross-reactivity of the mAb with other quinolones and fluoroquinolones was lower than 0.01%. The subclass of the mAb Enro44 was identified as IgG1. The antigen (Ag)-captured direct competitive ELISA using the mAb Enro44 was tested on different spiked samples, including chicken muscle, cattle milk, and cattle urine, and the assay demonstrated recoveries of 82-112%, 80-125%, and 78-124%, respectively. Furthermore, the quantitation of enrofloxacin obtained from the ELISA and from high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was in good agreement, with the linear regression coefficient between 0.933 and 1.056. The cDNAs encoding a heavy-chain Fd fragment (VH and CH1) and a light chain of the mAb Enro44 were cloned and sequenced. Taken together, the results obtained reveal a potential use of this mAb in an ELISA for the detection of enrofloxacin in food samples. The information of amino acid sequence of this mAb will be useful for further modification and production of the mAb in a bioreactor.
