Dental impression materials often become contaminated with patients' saliva and blood which creates the potential for cross-infection. It was the purpose of this study to investigate the effects of disinfection of three different rubber impression materials with four different disinfecting solutions. Polysulfide, vinyl polysiloxane and polyether impression materials were mixed according to the manufacturer's directions and samples were formed on a stainless steel model. On removal from the standard model, impressions were immersed in a disinfectant (acid-potentiated glutaraldehyde, phenollic compound, chlorine compound, iodophor) at room tempera tures for ten minutes. After disinfection, the distance between reference points(linear dimension) was measured using the non-contact automatic cordinate measuring projector(MZ-1, Nikon). Through statistical analyses on the data from this study,. the following conclusions were obtained. 1. Polysulfide, vinyl polysiloxane impressions were disinfected without dimensional change.(p>0.05) 2. Polyether impressions which were immersed in acid-potentiated glutaraldehyde were statistically different from control group.(p<0.05) But the amount of shrinkage(0.04%) would not be clinically significant. 3. By immersion of polysulfide, vinyl polysiloxane, polyether impressions in Banicide, Biocide, Multicide plus, sodium hypochlorite for ten minutes, clinically accurate impressions were obtained without dimensional change.

LTCC (Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic) has been successfully applied to ceramic substrates for circuits and micro-fluidic systems and has proven its superior performance in a variety of applications. The prediction of shrinkage in LTCC process is an important for dimensional control of micro LTCC products which has influences on electronic characteristics. For avoiding the unpredictable shrinkage of LTCC during the sintering which makes accurate placement of the circuit devices difficult, pre-processes such as WIP (Warm Isostatic Pressing) and lamination must be modified. The objective of the present investigation is to establish a proper WIP conditions for near net shape fabrication of LTCC products. This paper discusses the influence of WIP conditions on the dimensional change of LTCC sheet. In the investigation, it is shown that the shrinkage values of sheets depend on WIP conditions and sheet directions. This work is a quantitative evaluation of the effect of WIP pressure on shrinkage of LTCC sheet. Additionally, the results show anisotropic shrinkage behaviour of sheet during LTCC process.

Human feels kinesthetic sense in response to the force acted on him. In order to represent kinesthetic sense, a force is analyzed as mechanical impedance (i.e., stiffness or damping) and implemented by active impedance control. In this research, a 3-dimensional arm motion generator is developed to present various mechanical impedance characteristics to an operator. An introduction of virtual reality provides not only a visual effect in virtual environment but also the change in force synchronized with the visual effect in real time.
In this paper, an efficient algorithm to estimate the volume and surface area from ultrasonic imaging and a reconstruction algorithm to generate three-dimensional graphics are presented. The computing efficiency is Improved by using the graph theory and the algorithm to determine proper contour points is performed by applying several tolerances. The search for contour points is limited by the change in curvature in order to provide an efficient search of the minimum cost path. These algorithms are applied to a selected mathematical model of ellipsoid. The results show that the measured value of the volume and surface area for the tolerances of 1.0005, 1.001 and 1.002 approximate to the measured values for the tolerance of 1.000 resulting in small errors. The reconstructed 3-dimensional Images are sparse and consist of larger triangular tiles between two cross sections as tolerance is increased.
Purpose: This study compares how accurately the specimen produced by the machining method and the rapid prototyping method is produced and how much dimensional error occurs with the finished casting body, and presents the results as experimental comparative data. Methods: Specimens produced using a digital processing method were cast by a conventional dental casting process, and dimensional changes of the finished casting body were measured to compare shrinkage and expansion. Results: In the control group that did not artificially induce large swelling, the dimensional error was the smallest, and the shrinkage and expansion reactions cannot be elimainated in all processes. Conclusion: The shrinkage and expansion depend on the given conditions, so if there is a change in the traditional dental casting process, it is necessary to adjust all the parameters to obtain an accurate casting body.

Since the numerical analysis was adopted in the mold design, lots of computational methods have been proposed for the simulations of casting processes for the various shaped molds. Today, it is possible to simulate the filling and solidification processes of most casts using the VOF technique. Though the three-dimensional numerical model based on the Cartesian coordinate system can be applied to any shape of cast, it becomes very inefficient when the three-dimensional model is applied to the cast of axi-symmetrical shape since the control volume includes at least 11 of the physical model. In addition, the more meshes should be distributed along the circumferential boundaries of curved shape in the Cartesian coordinate system fur the better results, while such curved circumferential boundary does not need to be considered in the two-dimensional cylindrical coordinate system. This motivates the present study i.e. developing a two-dimensional numerical model for the axi-symmetrically shaped casts. The SIMPLER algorithm, the VOF method, and the equivalent specific heat method have been adopted in the combined algorithm for the flow calculation, the free surface tracking, and the phase change heat transfer, respectively. The numerical model has been applied to the casting process of a pulley, and it was proven that the mesh and time effective calculation was accomplished comparing to the calculation using three-dimensional model.

Direct writing(DW) is a method of patterning materials to a substrate directly, without a mask. It can use a variety of materials and be applied to various fields. Among DW systems, the flow-based type, using a syringe pump and nozzle, is simpler than other types. Furthermore, the range of materials is exceptionally wide. In additive processes, a three dimensional structure is made of stacking layer. Each layer is made of several lines. In this regard, good surface roughness of fabricated layers is essential to three dimensional fabrication. The surface roughness of any fabricated layer tends to change with the dispensing pattern. When multiple layers fabricated by a nozzle dispensing system are stacked, control of the nozzle position from the substrate is important in order to avoid interference between the nozzle and the fabricated layer. In this study, a fluid direct writing system for three dimensional structure fabrication was developed. Experimentsto control the position of the nozzle from substrate were conducted in order to examine the characteristics of the material used in this system.

Inspection and shape measurement of three-dimensional objects are widely needed in industries for quality monitoring and control. Recently the shape measurement using interferometric principle is found to be a successful methodology among other visual or optical technologies. Especially, the measuring method using wavelength scanning interferometer(WSI) has a great advantage in comparison with other conventional jnterferometric methods in that the absolute distance from the reference surface can be directly obtained from the amount of jnterferometric phase change. However, the measurement methods using WSI proposed by other researchers have low measurement resolution so far because they can't measure fractional phase change. To avoid this shortcoming we propose a new algorithm in this paper, which can obtain a small amount of even fractional phase change by sinusoidal function fitting. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed sinusoidal function fitting algorithm, a series of measuring experiments are conducted for discontinuously shaped specimens which have various height. The proposed algorithm shows much more enhanced measurement resolution than other existing conventional algorithms such as zero crossing algorithm and Fourier transform algorithm.

The piezoelectric bimorph film, which, as an actuator, can generate more effective displacement than the usual PVDF film, is used to control the turbulent boundary-layer flow. The change of wall pressures inside the turbulent boundary layer is observed by using the multi-channel microphone array flush-mounted on the surface when actuation at the non-dimensional frequency $f_b^+$:=0.008 and 0.028 is applied to the turbulent boundary layer. The wall pressure characteristics by the actuation to produce local displacement are more dominantly influenced by the size of the actuator module than the actuation frequency. The movement of large-scale turbulent structures to the upper layer is found to be the main mechanism of the reduction in the wall- pressure energy spectrum when the 700$700{\nu}/u_{\tau}$-long bimorph film is periodically actuated at the non- dimensional frequency $f_b^+$:=0.008 and 0.028. The biomorph actuator is triggered with the time delay for the active forcing at a single frequency when a 1/8' pressure-type, pin-holed microphone sensor detects the large-amplitude pressure event by the turbulent spot. The wall-pressure energy in the late-transitional boundary layer is partially reduced near the convection wavenumber by the open-loop control based on the large amplitude event.

To cater to the transition from single-color to multicolor/multi-material printing, this paper proposes a cartridge-replacing type multi-nozzle Fused Depositon Modeling(FDM) three-dimensional (3D) printer. In the test printing run, tool change failure/wobble/layer shift occurred. It was confirmed that improper support was the cause of this tool change failure. As a solution, spline and electromagnetic cartridges were designed. Wobble was caused by machine vibration and the motor stepping out. To minimize wobble, an additional Z-axis was installed, and the four-point bed leveling method was used instead of the three-point bed leveling method. The occurrence of layer shift was ascribed to the eccentricity of the Z-axis lead screw. Therefore, slit coupler was replaced with an Oldham type. In addition to the mechanical supplementation, the control environment was integrated to prevent accidents and signal errors due to wire connections. Before the final test printing run, a rectifier circuit was added to the motor to secure precise control stability. The final test printing run confirmed that the wobble/layer shift phenomenon was minimized, and the maximum error between layers was reduced to 0.05.
