The potential for brand dilution occurs when new brands merge with an identical image of a parent brand. Despite the significant attention regarding the effects of dilution on brand extension, there is limited research on brand dilution in the beauty industry. This study analyzes the effect of the typicality of extensional type on brand attitude or purchase intention for potential dilution toward beauty brand extension. In addition, we examine the moderating effect of knowledge transfer when customers evaluate the typicality of the extensional type for potential dilution toward beauty brand extensions. For the experiment, 4 description type factorial designs were performed. A total of 219 students participated in the experiment who had experience of visiting a beauty salon. The results are as follows. First, there are significant independent and interaction effects between the typicality and extensional type that reveals differential influences on the attitude or purchase intentions toward extended beauty brands. Second, the knowledge of the parent brand is transferred to extended brands. Third, there is a significant moderating effect of knowledge transfer, as customers evaluate the typicality of the extensional type for the potential dilution toward beauty brand extension. This study provides some theoretical and practical perspectives with some limitations.
The inert gas dilution effect for the stability of a stratified propane premixed flame has been experimentally studied. The addition of inert gases to a stratified premixed flame, which used to be very stable without dilution, makes a flame unstable. The lower equivalence ratio on the outer premixed flame and the lower fuel flow rate through the inner nozzle were observed to be the more stable conditions for the stratified premixed flame with nitrogen or argon dilution. It has been interpreted with the flame structure change such as shift of stoichiometric ratio region in a flame.

In group testing, the test unit consists of a group of individuals and each group is tested to classify units from a population as infected or non-infected or estimate the infection rate. If the test group is infected, one or more individuals in the group are presumed to be infected. It is assumed in group testing that classification of group as positive or negative is without error. But, the possibility of false negatives as a result of dilution effects happens often in practice, specially in many clinical researches. In this paper, dilution effect models in group testing are discussed and estimation methods of infection rate are proposed when a dilution effect exists.
Purpose: We tested the inhibitory effect of six purchasable alcohol hand rubs against Staphylococcus aureus. Methods: Five alcohol hand rubs were collected with random manner on the market and 1 alcohol hand rubs which is currently used in a hospital was included. we designed the experimental scheme on the basis of M7-A6 method of NCCLS. Each hand rubs were diluted to 1:1, 1:10, 1:100, 1:1,000 with tryptic soy broth. S. aureus was cultured. Turbidity and the colony counting was measured. Results: With dilution rate of 1:1, all products showed more than 95% of the inhibitory effect on bacterial growth. At 1:10 dilution, product $N^{\circ}1$, 2, 3, 4, and 5 displayed the inhibitory effect of 97.77%, 92.38%, 78.19%, 97.42%, and 96.6%, respectively. But, the inhibitory effect of product $N^{\circ}6$ has been disappeared at that dilution. Over 1:100 dilution, all products lost their inhibitory effect except product $N^{\circ}5$. Product $N^{\circ}5$ displayed more than 96% of inhibitory effect at all dilution rate, even at 1:100 and 1:1,000. Conclusion: We identified that inhibitory effect on bacterial growth of alcohol hand rubs was variable. We suggest that concentration of alcohol should be checked before choosing alcohol hand rubs. Further evaluation of in vivo study is needed.
The flameless combustion has been considered as one of the promising combustion technology for high thermal efficiency, reducing NOx and CO emissions. In this paper, the effect of air and fuel injection condition on formation of flameless combustion was analyzed using three dimensional numerical simulation. The results show that the high temperature region and the average temperature was decreased due to increase of recirculation ratio when air velocity is increased. The average temperature was also affected by entrainment length. Generally mixing effect was enhanced at low entrainment length and dilution was dominated at high entrainment length. This entrainment length was greatly affected by air and fuel injection velocity and distance between air and fuel. It is also found that the recirculation ratio and dilution effect were generally increased by entrainment length and the recirculation ratio, mixing and dilution effect are the significant factor for design of flameless combustion system.
The tensile properties of short nylon6 fiber reinforced NR and SBR have been investigated as functions of diameter ratio(DR), interphase condition, fiber aspect ratio(AR), and fiber content. The short-fiber(DR=3 and AR=2) reinforced SBR did not show the dilution effect for all interphase conditions. And the short-fiber(DR=3 and AR=2) reinforced NR did not show the dilution effect except for the no-coating. The better interphase condition, the lower dilution effect at same DR. The tensile moduli are significantly improved due to fiber content and diameter ratio at same interphase condition. The pull-out force increased with the DR. The better interphase condition, the higher pull-out force at same DR. It is found that the DR and AR have an important effect on tensile properties.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical applications of the Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate effervescent tablet as a routine root canal irrigant by performing several in vitro tests such as $Cl^{-}$ content. cytotoxicity. antimicrobial effect as well as its pH level compared to the equivalent concentration of sodium hypochlorite solution. 1. Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate demonstrated lower level of $Cl^{-}$ concentration than each dilution of sodium hypochlorite solution. Both solution has increased level of $Cl^{-}$ as the concentration of each solution increased. There was no significant change of $Cl^{-}$ concentration in sodium hypochlorite as time goes by. However. $Cl^{-}$ concentration in Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate was increased. 2. The antimicrobial effects of both solutions were increased when their concentrations were increased. One day after dilution. antimicrobial effect of Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate was slightly higher than sodium hypochlorite. however. there was no difference in 1 week dilution solution. One month dilution solution of sodium hypochlorite still retain its activity. but antimicrobial effect of Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate was drastically decreased 1 month after dilution. 3. The cytotoxicity of Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate was rather higher than same concentration of sodium hypochlorite solution until 1 week after dilution. Then in 1 month. cytotoxicity of Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate was decreased than that of 1 week dilution solution. especially 4% Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate solution has almost no toxicity. However. 1% and 2% sodium hypochlorite solution has unchanged moderate degree of cytotoxicity after the dilution. Furthermore. 4% sodium hypochlorite solution showed high level of toxicity. 4. The pH level of Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate showed that the solution was weak acid (pH5). On the other hand. sodium hypochlorite was revealed as a strong alkaline solution (pH12). There was no change in pH following the dilution of each solution. As results. Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate solution fully satisfy the basic requirements as a root canal irrigation solution. However. we strongly recommend to use this solution clinically in low concentration and try to apply into the root canal within 1 week after dilution.
When triple flames propagated in a diverging channel, the effects of fuel dilution on the lift-off characteristics of triple flames were investigated. A multi-slot burner was used to stabilize the lift-off flame especially at weak fuel concentration gradients. It was reported that there is a maximum propagation velocity at a critical concentration gradient in an open jet regardless of fuel dilution. The enhancement of a diffusion flame affected to increase the propagation velocity around critical concentration gradients. However, the influence of a confined channel on the structure of triple flames according to fuel dilution needs to be investigated compared with an open jet case. This study aimed to examine the effect of a confined channel on the structure and the propagation velocity of the triple flames according to fuel dilution. Lift-off height and propagation velocity of triple flames were investigated by employing three kinds of fuel compositions diluted by nitrogen (0%, 25%, 50% $N_2$), Fuel dilution reduced the propagation velocity of triple flame in a confined channel mainly due to the decrease of flame temperature in premixed branch. Despite the difference in fuel dilution, the propagation velocity has a maximum value at a specific fuel concentration gradient even though the critical concentration gradient increases with fuel dilution. And the critical concentration gradient in a confined channel is larger than that in an open jet due to enhancement of convective diffusion.
Experimental measurements of flame structure and soot characteristics were performed for ethene inverse diffusion flames (IDF). IDF has been considered as the excellent flow field to study the incipient soot because soot particle do not experience the oxidation process. In this study, LIF image clarified the reaction zone of IDF with OH signal and PAH distribution. laser light scattering technique also identified the being of soot particle. To address the degree of soot maturing, C/H ratio and morphology of soot sample were investigated. From these measurements, the effect of flow residence time and temperature on soot inception could be suggested, and more details on soot characteristic in the IDF was determined according to fuel dilution and flame condition. The fuel dilution results in a decrease of temperature and enhancement of residence time, but the critical dilution mole fraction is existed for temperature not to effect on soot growth. Also, the soot inception evolved on the specific temperature and its morphology are independent of the fuel dilution ratio of fuel.
This paper investigates psychological differences between constructors and interpreters of causal maps. This paper argues that dissipation effects and dilution effects applies to those who are to interpret causal maps not to those who construct them. Dissipation effects are psychological tendency that people perceive causal effect as weak as the number of causal links increases. Dilution effects occur when people undervalue the strength of causal relation as the number of causal variables increases. Experimental results show that concentration effects opposite to the dissipation effects and dilution effects explain more correctly the perception of constructors of causal maps. This paper points out that this asymmetric psychological tendencies between constructors and interpreters of causal maps is the psychological source of the communication problems between systems thinkers and their clients.
