  • Micropayment is an electronic payment system for small value transaction. It needs to use a little amount of resources, such as communication and computation due to its small value. In other words, the processing cost for the micropayment must be less than the value of the payment. Several kinds of transactions are suitable for micropayment, eg. the purchasing of train tickets or digital newspapers. Since micropayment systems are designed for small-amount payment the key factor for any micropayment system design is believed to be the minimization of resource consumption without compromising the standard security. In this paper, we propose an adaptive agent approach to credit-based micropayment system, which employs the concept of dynamic balancing between the resource consumption and the risk in the system. As a result of the dynamic balancing, our system not only solves the problem of global overspending but also uses fewer amount of resources than existing approaches. Our approach limits the amount of money spent by untrusted customers to all merchants. Thus, our approach provides a boundary of the global overspending. In addition, for trusted customers, our approach requires less scale of communication for verifying authorizations than all existing approaches.

  • While database(DB) and information retrieval(IR) have been developed independently, there have been emerging requirements that both data management and efficient text retrieval should be supported simultaneously in an information system such as health care, customer support, XML data management, and digital libraries. The great divide between DB and IR has caused different manners in index maintenance for newly arriving documents. While DB has extended its SQL layer to cope with text fields due to lack of intact mechanism to build IR-like index, IR usually treats a block of new documents as a logical unit of index maintenance since it has no concept of integrity constraint. However, In the DB-IR integrations, a transaction on adding or updating a document should include maintenance of the posting lists accompanied by the document. Although DB-IR integration has been budded in the research filed, the issue will remain difficult and rewarding areas for a while. One of the primary reasons is lack of efficient online transactional index maintenance. In this paper, performance of a few strategies for per-document basis transactional index maintenance - direct index update, pulsing auxiliary index and posting segmentation index - will be evaluated. The result shows that the pulsing auxiliary strategy and posting segmentation indexing scheme, can be a challenging candidates for text field indexing in DB-IR integration.

  • Increasing of the nonlinear type power electronics equipment, power conditioning systems (PCS) have been researched and developed for many years in order to compensate for harmonic disturbances and reactive power. PCS's not only improve harmonic current and power factor in the ac grid line but also achieves energy saving used by the renewable energy source (RES). In this paper, the implementation of a current controlled voltage source inverter (CCVSI) using RES for PCS is presented. The basic principle and control algorithm is theoretically analyzed and the design methodology of the system is discussed. The proposed system could achieve power quality control (PQC) to reduce harmonic current and improve power factor, and demand side management (DSM) to supply active power simultaneously, which are both operated by the polarized ramp time (PRT) current control algorithm and the grid-interactive current control algorithm. A 1KVA test model of the CCVSI has been built using IGBT controlled by a digital signal processor (DSP). To verify the proposed system, a comprehensive evaluation with theoretical analysis, simulation and experimental results is presented.

  • In accordance with the computerization of railway signaling systems, the interface link between signaling equipment has been replaced by a digital communication channel and the importance of this communication link has become increasingly significant. However, there are some problems with the present state of railway signaling. First, different communication protocol is applied to interfaces between signaling although they have the same functions. Next, the communication protocols currently used in the railway fields contain various illogical components such as structure, byte formation, error correction scheme and so on. To solve these matters, a new data link protocol for railway signaling systems is designed. In this paper, the structure of protocol and the results of performance analyses are presented. It will be expected to increase the safety, reliability and efficiency of maintenance of signaling systems by using the designed communication protocol for railway signaling in Korea.

  • In the machine tool industry, direct drive linear motor technology is of increasing interest as a means to achieve high acceleration and to increase reliability. This paper analyzes and compares the characteristics of the tubular linear actuator with the cylindrical Halbach and radial array, respectively. A tubular linear actuator with cylindrical Halbach array, consisting of parallel magnetized arc segments instead of ideal radial and axial magnetized rings, is manufactured. The magnetic field solutions due to the PMs and to the currents are established analytically in terms of vector potential, using the 2-D cylindrical coordinate system. Motor thrust, flux linkage and back emf are then derived. Thrust characteristics according to such design parameters as magnet height and air gap length are also given. The results are validated extensively by comparison with finite element analysis (FEA). Test results such as thrust measurements are also given to confirm the analysis.

  • Cost effective simulation schemes for Wind Power Generation Systems (WPGS) considering wind turbine types, generators and load capacities have been strongly investigated by researchers. As an alternative, a true weather condition based simulation method using a real-time digital simulator (RTDS) is experimented in this paper for the online real-time simulation of the WPGS. A stand-alone WPGS is, especially, simulated using the Simulation method for WPGS using Real Weather conditions (SWRW) in this work. The characteristic equation of a wind turbine is implemented in the RTDS and a RTDS model component that can be used to represent any type of wind turbine in the simulations is also established. The actual data related to weather conditions are interfaced directly to the RTDS for the purpose of online real-time simulation of the stand-alone WPGS. The outcomes of the simulation demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed simulation scheme. The results also signify that the cost effective verification of efficiency and stability for the WPGS is possible by the proposed real-time simulation method.

  • A divisible off-line electronic cash system based on cut-and-choose has first been proposed by [OO91] and recently more efficient single term divisible cash system was presented in [EO94] which is based on Brand's scheme [Bra93]. In this paper, we present a different type of single term divisible electronic cash system which is more efficient than previously proposed systems such as [OO91], [YLR93], and [EO94] in the standpoint of the amount of communication, the number of modular multiplications required in the payment transactions, and the storage requirement in the withdrawal protocol. Our scheme is a modified version of [LL93], where the major improvement has been made in its withdrawal transaction to introduce untraceability and multi-spendability. We have borrowed the idea of the withdrawal protocol of our scheme from [EO94] with minor modifications. Transferability in our scheme allows only a finite number of transfer. Our scheme satisfies an the desirable properties of an electronic cash system such as untraceability, divisibility and transferability. In addition, we present a n-spendable cash. The basic idea of extension to multi-spendability has been borrowed from [Bra93] with minor modifications.
