Large-scale Ambient Display Environment for providing Multi Spatial Interaction Interface (멀티 공간 인터랙션 인터페이스 제공을 위한 대규모 앰비언트 디스플레이 환경)

  • Recently, systems providing the interaction different according to an interval between a user and the display were developed in order to construct the ambient or the ubiquitous computing environment. Therefore, we propose a new type of spatial interaction system; our main goal is to provide the interactive domain in the large-scale ambient display environment. So, we divide into two zones of interaction dependent on the distance from the interaction surface interactive zone and ambient zone. In interactive zone, the users can approach the interaction surface and interact with natural hand-touch. When the users are outside the range of the interactive zone, the display shows only general information. Therefore, this system offers the various interactions and information to users in the ubiquitous ambient environment.

System Implementation for Generating High Quality Digital Holographic Video using Vertical Rig based on Depth+RGB Camera (Depth+RGB 카메라 기반의 수직 리그를 이용한 고화질 디지털 홀로그래픽 비디오 생성 시스템의 구)

  • Recently the attention on digital hologram that is regarded as to be the final goal of the 3-dimensional video technology has been increased. A digital hologram can be generated with a depth and a RGB image. We proposed a new system to capture RGB and depth images and to convert them to digital holograms. First a new cold mirror was designed and produced. It has the different transmittance ratio against various wave length and can provide the same view and focal point to the cameras. After correcting various distortions with the camera system, the different resolution between depth and RGB images was adjusted. The interested object was extracted by using the depth information. Finally a digital hologram was generated with the computer generated hologram (CGH) algorithm. All algorithms were implemented with C/C++/CUDA and integrated in LabView environment. A hologram was calculated in the general-purpose computing on graphics processing unit (GPGPU) for high-speed operation. We identified that the visual quality of the hologram produced by the proposed system is better than the previous one.

  • Recently, the use of digital audio and video as proof in criminal and all kinds of litigation is increasing, and scientific investigation using digital forensic technique is developing. With the development of computing and file editing technologies, anyone can simply manipulate video files, and the number of cases of manipulating digital data is increasing. As a result, the integrity of the evidence and the reliability of the evidence Is required. In this paper, we propose a technique for extracting the Electrical Network Frequency (ENF) through a grid of power grids according to the geographical environment for power supply, and then performing signal processing for peak detection using QIFFT. Through the detection algorithm using the standard deviation, it was confirmed that the video file was falsified with 73% accuracy and the forgery point was found.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of a network-adaptive N-screen game system to be used in cloud computing. The system we are considering needs to generate game video in a cloud server and transmit the video to multiple game devices over an in-home wireless network via a home game server. It is difficult to support multiple screens which have different resolutions with a single bitstream of game video. Therefore, we developed a new network-adaptive game-video extraction and transmission method using (1) scalable video coding and (2) Raptor code techniques. The simulation, conducted with real game-video, verified the efficiency of the proposed video streaming system.

PosCFS+: A Self-Managed File Service in Personal Area Network

  • Wearable computers consisting of various small devices such as smart phones, digital cameras, MP3 players and specialized I/O devices in personal area networks will play an important role in future ubiquitous computing. In this environment, accessing user data is quite complex due to the dynamic and heterogeneous characteristics of the underlying networks. Moreover, since the amount of user data increases rapidly, automatic data backup management is also critical. To overcome these challenges, several studies have been conducted including our previously proposed file service system, PosCFS, which could be adapted to the requirements with a virtualization technique allowing per-user global namespace for managing and accessing data stored on physical storage spaces detected in PAN. In this paper, we present a smart file service framework, PosCFS+ which is an improved and extended version of our previous work. Performance improvement is made possible by redesigning the metadata management scheme based on database and keywords rather than ontology. In addition, the automatic data replication management is newly designed based on the OSD protocol.

R Based Parallelization of a Climate Suitability Model to Predict Suitable Area of Maize in Korea (국내 옥수수 재배적지 예측을 위한 R 기반의 기후적합도 모델 병렬화)

  • Alternative cropping systems would be one of climate change adaptation options. Suitable areas for a crop could be identified using a climate suitability model. The EcoCrop model has been used to assess climate suitability of crops using monthly climate surfaces, e.g., the digital climate map at high spatial resolution. Still, a high-performance computing approach would be needed for assessment of climate suitability to take into account a complex terrain in Korea, which requires considerably large climate data sets. The objectives of this study were to implement a script for R, which is an open source statistics analysis platform, in order to use the EcoCrop model under a parallel computing environment and to assess climate suitability of maize using digital climate maps at high spatial resolution, e.g., 1 km. The total running time reduced as the number of CPU (Central Processing Unit) core increased although the speedup with increasing number of CPU cores was not linear. For example, the wall clock time for assessing climate suitability index at 1 km spatial resolution reduced by 90% with 16 CPU cores. However, it took about 1.5 time to compute climate suitability index compared with a theoretical time for the given number of CPU. Implementation of climate suitability assessment system based on the MPI (Message Passing Interface) would allow support for the digital climate map at ultra-high spatial resolution, e.g., 30m, which would help site-specific design of cropping system for climate change adaptation.

  • In this thesis, I categorize expression of context data required for context data inference according to five Ws and one H(5W1H) in Ubiquitous computing environment and infer superordinate context by combining context data of 4W1H with inferred context of why. This thesis suggests that we categorize specific context and service according to 6W2H added Whom(specific data or service) and How much (accuracy), and determine proper services for specific contexts by introducing the concept of rough set for expression and inference of categorized contexts and inaccurate knowledge. Since there is an limitation of the set of 0 and 1 when concerned with accuracy of services, I introduce the concept of fuzzy set. To provide users with the most appropriate service by ridding of unnecessary properties through the process of reduction, I also use the concept of rough set.

  • Recently, the ubiquitous computing environment being able to connect all kinds of computing elements at anytime anywhere becomes widespread in human life. In this paper, we focus on a PC remote control system using cellular phones. Especially, we design and implement an mobile e-mail transmission system using PC remote control technique. By using our remote controller, cellular phone users can login into their own PC, and then send any file to others by e-mail attachment. To show the correct running of our system, real demonstration results are presented. We are sure that by opening our source code to the public our results can play an important role to encourage development of the various mobile remote control functionalities.

  • Along with the advent of ubiquitous computing environment, it is becoming a part of our common life style that the demands for enjoying the wireless internet using intelligent portable device such as smart phone and iPad, are increasing anytime or anyplace without any restriction of time and place. The recommending service becomes a very important technology which can find exact information to present users, then is easy for customers to reduce their searching effort to find out the items with high purchasability in e-commerce. Traditional mining association rule ignores the difference among the transactions. In order to do that, it is considered the importance of type of merchandise or service and then, we suggest a new recommending service using mining sequential pattern based on weight to reflect frequently changing trends of purchase pattern as time goes by and as often as customers need different merchandises on e-commerce being extremely diverse. To verify improved better performance of proposing system than the previous systems, we carry out the experiments in the same dataset collected in a cosmetic internet shopping mall.

  • The evolution of cloud computing service over the recent years is potentially one of the major advances in information and communication technology. However, if cloud computing service is to achieve its potential, there needs to be a clear understanding of the various issues such as service security, performance and availability and so on, both from the perspectives of the providers and the consumers of the cloud service. As more and more information on individuals, companies and public sectors are placed in the cloud service, concerns are beginning to grow about just how safe and reliable an environment it is. In order to overcome these situations, the Korea cloud service certification system and U.S. FedRAMP were performed in each country. This paper aims at comparing and analyzing between Korean cloud service certification systems and U.S. FedRAMP and describing the difference between them. Eventually, we propose the improvement strategy of Korea cloud service certification systems based on the comparison results between them.
