  • MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of recently discovered non-coding small RNA molecules, on average approximately 21 nucleotides in length, which underlie numerous important biological roles in gene regulation in various organisms. The miRNA database (release 18) has 18,226 miRNAs, which have been deposited from different species. Although miRNAs have been identified and validated in many plant species, no studies have been reported on discovering miRNAs in Panax ginseng Meyer, which is a traditionally known medicinal plant in oriental medicine, also known as Korean ginseng. It has triterpene ginseng saponins called ginsenosides, which are responsible for its various pharmacological activities. Predicting conserved miRNAs by homology-based analysis with available expressed sequence tag (EST) sequences can be powerful, if the species lacks whole genome sequence information. In this study by using the EST based computational approach, 69 conserved miRNAs belonging to 44 miRNA families were identified in Korean ginseng. The digital gene expression patterns of predicted conserved miRNAs were analyzed by deep sequencing using small RNA sequences of flower buds, leaves, and lateral roots. We have found that many of the identified miRNAs showed tissue specific expressions. Using the insilico method, 346 potential targets were identified for the predicted 69 conserved miRNAs by searching the ginseng EST database, and the predicted targets were mainly involved in secondary metabolic processes, responses to biotic and abiotic stress, and transcription regulator activities, as well as a variety of other metabolic processes.

  • According to the statistics revealed by Bank of Korea on March, 2007, Internet banking transactions outnumbered face-to-face banking services in Korea. Internet banking is becoming essential in every financial service sectors. For people with disabilities, Internet banking is more meaningful because they do not need to visit the bank, thereby saving inconvenient trips. Governments in many countries are working on setting standards and laws on the web accessibility for people with disabilities. Korea government enacted Korea Disability Discrimination Act in 2007. This paper examined the web accessibility compliance of Internet banking sites. Twenty one Internet banking sites were selected from the list in the Korea Federation of Banks's Web sites. We examined four major checkpoints that are considered crucial among the fourteen checkpoints in "Internet Web Contents Accessibility Guidelines" which was amended by Ministry of the information and Communication in 2005. The results showed that all of the twenty one Internet banking sites didn't meet the four major checkpoint requirements. Moreover, only one banking site satisfied alt-text requirement that is considered the most fundamental among the checkpoints.

  • Management consulting by a bank is expected to have a win-win relationship to the mutual development of the banks and client firms. Previous studies also claimed that consulting had a positive impact on the competitiveness and business performance of the firms. Nevertheless, few empirical studies were found to analyze the relationship and explain the result whether consulting had really enhanced the competitiveness and performance of the businesses after consulting. The present paper has empirically analyzed the impact of a management consulting by a bank on the business performance of the client firms and on the contribution to the bank. In terms of client firms, the financial results of the client companies such as stability, profitability and growth potential were compared before and after the consulting; in terms of the bank, the changes in the last three-month average outstanding of deposits and loans were measured and verified in order to measure the contribution of the client firms to bank. A significant effect was confirmed in this study of the consulting on the client firms' the debt ratio-an item of financial stability and sales growth-an item of the growth potential.

  • Korea is ahead of the launch of internet banking professional following to America, Europe and Japan. Internet banking is a professional non-store bank to conduct business such as deposits and loans on the internet and call centers. It is operating in a low-cost structure and minimizes the loans and deposits, various fees than traditional banks and obtains a profit. In order to be successful internet banking professional to develop a differentiated work with the existing banks should be competitive. In this paper, we explore and analyze the cases of Japan and the United States to present the future direction of domestic Internet banking professional future. Also it is expected to enable faster and more convenient one-stop financial services. Internet specialized bank is expected to continue to develop further by the inevitable competition with conventional banks as developing differentiated financial services. Deregulation of banks and industries and participation of various companies of security, insurance, telecommunications, and retail are expected to lead to the convergence among industries and development of new financial services.

  • Ecological and ecosystem database is becoming very necessary to understand origins and relationship between human and nature and also to minimize disturbance caused by human activities. An ecological information portal can play important roles as a computing system to collect knowledge, distributed research findings and separated data from researchers. In this study, we designed and developed ecological information portal service (EcoBank 1.0) for collecting and providing ecological information for diverse classes of stakeholders. To reach the goal, we had reviewed related and comparable ecological database portals to design conceptual structure of EcoBank system including database management framework. Then, we developed some functions of ecosystem analysis for each stake-holders (researchers, general public and policy makers). As a result of this study, we successfully designed of EcoBank system covering the functions of Digital Object Identifier(DOI) publishing and data quality management process. Also, we (1) applied ecological indices for calculating biodiversity by administrative boundary for policy makers, (2) provided statistical information of econature map for general public and distribution characteristics of species for researchers. To make a successful establishment of EcoBank, we have to collect and build up related database and offer various and reliable ecological data consistently. We expect that the successful construction of EcoBank will help not only to accomplish sustainable development goals but also to raise the welfare of ecosystem in Korea.

  • This study attempts to find out the characteristics of digital currency and currency transformation through the analytical descriptions of the literature. In the early days of the emergence of new currency, market-oriented autonomous monetary adjustment was made along with various attempts by the private sector, and then government-centered central currency management and coordination were made for the national monopoly of profits and power. Digital currency can be seen as the emergence of a new form of money that will bring about paradigm changes. CBDC can be divided into direct and indirect types. CBDC is expected to require a strategic approach by the government or firm as it will bring about changes in the ecosystem of related industries. Libra is a stablecoin designed to minimize price fluctuations, and if it succeeds in commercializing it, it is expected to bring about revolutionary changes in the financial industry around the world.

  • Purpose: This study systematically examined the concept of digital selling readiness of salespeople. Additionally, this study empirically confirms the sequential mediating roles of digital literacy and salesperson self-efficacy in the impact of digital selling readiness on customer-oriented behavior. Research design, data, and methodology: We collected data from salespeople at a Bank and Financial Service firm in South Korea. A total of 254 salespeople were invited to participate, with 154 surveys returned. After removing the questionnaires with missing values, 150 complete surveys were employed for the analysis. Results: The empirical analysis indicates that digital selling readiness positively affects digital literacy. Digital literacy, in turn, is positively associated with self-efficacy, leading to increased customer-oriented behaviors among salespersons. This study also confirms the sequential mediating effects of digital literacy and self-efficacy in the impact of salespeople's digital selling readiness on customer-oriented behavior. Conclusions: Our research deepens the understanding of how digital selling readiness fosters customer-oriented behavior through the sequential mediating effects of digital literacy and self-efficacy. This study extends the previous model by sequentially involving digital literacy and self-efficacy to better understand the psychological processes of digital selling. The results highlight the role of digital selling readiness in preparing salespeople for digital sales.
