  • Using diffusion tensor tractography (DTT), we demonstrated injury of the arcuate fasciculus (AF) in the nondominant hemisphere in two patients who showed subfalcine herniation after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in the dominant hemisphere. Two patients (patient 1 and patient 2) with ICH and six age-matched control patients who have ICH on the left corona radiata and basal ganglia without subfalcine herniation were recruited for this study. DTT was performed at one month after onset in patient 1 and patient 2. AFs of both hemispheres in both patients were disrupted between Wernicke's and Broca's areas. The fractional anisotropy value and tract numbers of the right AFs in both patients were found to be more than two standard deviations lower than those of control patients. In contrast, the apparent diffusion coefficient value was more than two standard deviations higher than those of control patients. Using the configuration and parameters of DTT, we confirmed injury of the AF in the nondominant hemisphere in two patients with subfalcine herniation following ICH in the dominant hemisphere. Therefore, DTT would be a useful tool for detection of underlying injury of the AF in the nondominant hemisphere in patients with subfalcine herniation.

  • This research has a purpose to achieve experimental data used for design of ventilation systems necessary for indoor air quality control and their operation and management. For the study, spatial concentration distribution of indoor air quality according to pollutant site in a simplified model chamber. In low flow ventilation, flow pattern of indoor air was mainly influenced by diffusion and additionally, spatial distribution was formed by convection. Distribution of ventilation efficiency according to each pattern of model chamber was evaluated. It was confirmed that diffusion patterns of a pollutant among sites were formed, centering around main stream areas of supply and exhaust outlets.

  • A simple model is presented which may explain the distributions of cold surface water near Ulsan. The model considers the problem as an advection-diffusion process with cold source confined within narrow coastal areas. The natural warming due to vertical process (interaction either with the atmosphere above or with the subsurface water below) also plays an important role. A simple numerical computation reproduces the observations quite well. The localization of cold surface water occurs at the point where the local warm current separates from the coast.

  • With the progress of IT, the strategic use of information systems have been applied to the interorganizatonal business areas, that is called Interorganizational Systems (IOS). Previous IT diffusion researches or IT adoption researches have been focused to newly emerged IT but confined into one organization. However, IOS such as internet or EDI relate with between organizations. In this sense, this research has analyzed the IT diffusion factors affected by IOS based on the previous studies of IT adoption. This study designed a research model using the factors of adopting IOS, and conducted an empirical research with questionnaires with top domestic 80 firms. And the finding is that the factors of the CIO support, business partners and an industry community have significance but other factors such as the size of firm, the degree of IS maturity, the degree of firm centrality, the complexity or suitability of IOS are not.

  • Purpose: Advances of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), especially that of the Ultra-High Field (UHF) MRI will be reviewed. Materials and Methods: Diffusion MRI data was obtained from a healthy adult young male of age 30 using a 7.0T research MRI scanner (Magnetom, Siemens) with 40 mT/m maximum gradient field. The specific imaging parameters used for the data acquisition were a single shot DW echo planar imaging. Results: Three areas of the imaging experiments are focused on for the study, namely the anatomy, angiography, and tractography. Conclusion: It is envisioned that, in near future, there will be more 7.0T MRIs for brain research and explosive clinical application research will also be developed, for example in the area of connectomics in neuroscience and clinical neurology and neurosurgery.

  • In order to provide the basic data required for setting up the proper strategies to minimize the future marine pollution in the vicinity sea area of the Geoje Island, the general water quality parameters and dye diffusion experiment were carried out from January to March, 1983. Although TSS and COD level in the investigated sea area showed still slightly lower than the area of Seaside Industrial Complex Zones, seriously increasing due to the construction of heavy industrial plants. Dissolved oxygen showed more than 8 ppm, and inferred still enough for the reservation of the investigated sea area. The dye patches moved south-eastward with forming an elliptical shape and then turned slowly to the area of Kujora during flood tide, and it moved northwestward and then blocked the entrance of Jangseungpo during ebb tide, The diffusibility in the area may be assessed to be quite better than other coastal areas.

  • This paper explains what DTI (Diffusion Tensor Imaging) is and what it does. We will talk about the DTI functions and what type of image it can show, and what areas are using DTI. The tractography and other applications that DTI is being used. In this paper, we explain that DTI is not only useful in medicine but also in botany. We propose to use DTI to study structure and functions of plants.

  • In this study, CALPUFF, a three-dimensional atmospheric diffusion model, was used to predict the degree of influence of pollutants generated during clean center operation on surrounding areas. To drive the CALPUFF model, CALMET, a weather field calculation model, was used. Due to the influence of the wind field, air pollutants from the Clean Center diffused in the southeast direction, increasing the distribution area. SOx satisfies atmospheric environmental standards with an annual average value of 0.02 ppm or less NOx satisfies atmospheric environmental standards with an annual average value of 0.03 ppm or less. Dust (PM-10) satisfies atmospheric environmental standards with an annual average value of 50㎍/m3 or less and 24 hours average value of 100㎍/m3 or less. CO satisfies atmospheric environmental standards with an 8 hours average value of 9 ppm or less and an 1 hour average value of 25 ppm or less.

  • In this study, we investigated the various adsorption factors influencing the adsorption of heavy metal ions based on the study of the composition and physicochemical properties of scoria dispersed throughout Jeju Island. Analysis of the distribution characteristics of scoria samples collected from five areas of Jeju showed that reddish-brown-colored scoria were predominant. Analysis of scoria collected from Jeju Island showed that its mineral components are ordered as follows: SiO2 > Al2O3 > Fe2O3 > CaO and MgO. The experimental data did not show a linear relationship in the pseudo-first-order adsorption kinetics. In contrast, a pseudo-second-order model yielded a positive linear relationship, and this model was subsequently used. It could be concluded based on an intraparticle diffusion model indicating linear relationships that the capture of metal ions on scoria is dominated by the primary adsorption step.
