  • This study takes a holistic approach to understand the diffusion of IPTV services by combining the adoption-diffusion model and the use-diffusion model of innovation. IPTV service, a leading digital converged application coupling media content with telecommunications, has been recently launched commercially in Korea. We created a structural model of adoption-diffusion, using the perceived easeof-use and usefulness of TAM(Technology Acceptance Model) as mediating variables, and a structural model of use-diffusion, with the rate of use and the variety of use as mediating variables. To empirically analyze these models, non-users of IPTV were surveyed using the adoption-diffusion model to identify factors influencing their intention to subscribe to the service. Meanwhile, users of IPTV were surveyed using the use-diffusion model to determine the factors that influence their satisfaction with the service and their intention to re-use it. Under the adoption-diffusion model, we found that trialability, household innovativeness and perceived risk were the determinants of user satisfaction with IPTV, and perceived ease-of-use, the mediating factors. Under the use-diffusion model, complementarity and communication were shown to be the determinants of users' satisfaction with IPTV, and variety of use, the mediating factor. We also found that consumers' intention to re-use IPTV was strongly influenced by its relative advantage and perceived risk.

  • The main purpose of this study is to analyse the digital divide and th determinants of ICT diffusion rate in Korean industries. We estimate the ICT diffusion function using the pooling data for this analysis. The results are as follows. First, the ICT capital accumulated in machinery & equipment, electrical machinery and construction industry is estimated to be 83% of total In capital stock in the 90s. Second, using the panel analysis, we find positive correlation among ICT diffusion, network effect and accumulation of human capital, which is more prominent in the service sector. Third, the estimation results show that the additional 1% increase of human capital accumulation will allow to increase the 0.69% of ICT capital intensity in Korean industries.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the diffusion process of mobile internet use in Korea and to explore the determinants driving MIU. A survey was conducted to collect data to empirically assess the research model. In total, 543 usable responses were collected using a questionnaire derived from previous research. Both the structural equation model and partial least squares were used to study the model concerning different user groups. Findings, The results indicate that there are significant differences in the users' perceptions of mobile internet usage during its different innovation diffusion stages. Of the determinants, perceived enjoyment is the most important predictor of mobile internet use. In addition to motivating users by making services more enjoyable, the findings suggest that practitioners should take the differences of adopter groups into account. Making the mobile internet easy to use and compatible with users' lifestyles would promote the use of technology as well.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the determinants of new product diffusion. We seek to document and explain systematic features of product diffusion. In this essay, we examine the well-documented empirical regularity that the speed of diffusion has accelerated during the twentieth century. The empirical results show that the main source of acceleration are faster declines in prices. Faster price declines make the product affordable to more consumers within a given period of time. Based on theories of intertemporal price discrimination and learning-by-doing, the association between the speed of adoption and the speed of price decline was explained. Faster price declines are attributed to several product characteristics as well as changes in income distribution. Above all, the introduction of consumer electronic products in more recent years can be regarded as the most important factor in accelerating price declines. Consumer electronic products are technologically different from non-electronic goods, in that semiconductors are important components. As the price of semiconductors has dropped rapidly, the falling production costs can be rapidly incorporated to the price of consumer electronic goods. Furthermore, most of the recently introduced consumer electronic products have network externalities, and many products with network externalities require complementary products. A complementary product becomes more readily or cheaply available as more people have the main product. One major difference between previous studies and this study is that the former focuses only on the factors that operate directly on the speed of adoption, while this study incorporated factors that work through price changes as well as the factors that work directly on the speed of adoption.

  • This study primarily aims at identifying what factors significantly affect the diffusion of knowledge management systems(KMS) and finding out how these identified factors can be effectively managed, especially for Korean companies. The research model is derived based on previous researches on innovation diffusion, information systems implementation, and KMS. The model is used to examine the role of determinants in influencing the extent to which KMS is diffused within organizations. Independent variables of this research are composed of technical characteristics, organizational characteristics and environmental characteristics. 'Breadth of diffusion' and 'depth of diffusion' concept are used to measure the extent of KMS diffusion which is the dependent variable of this model. The 101 companies of total 1,000 samples responded to the survey. To analyze tile results of this empirical study, we performed the multiple regression analysis. As a result, it was shown that the relative advantage, complexity, information system maturity, size, top management support, champion, competitive pressure have influences on both the breadth and the depth diffusions. On the other hand, the organizational culture, valuation and compensation, and uncertainty of environmental factors were not verified to be significant. This empirical study will provide Korean companies with insights into effective ways to diffuse the KMS and succeed in business competition.

  • This study estimates the determinants of national health expenditures of OECD countries using panel regression method. The data used are OECD Health Data(2003) covering 33 countries and from 1970 to 2001. This study shows several important different results compared to the previous studies. Further this study estimates the determinants of Korean case using data from 1m to 2000, and compare with the results of OECD panel. The main findings are as follows. The income elasticity of health expenditures is estimated below 1.0, but is shown above 1.0 when the different health systems of each country are controlled. The women's labor participation influences strongly positive effect on the health expenditures. The diffusion of new technologies is positively related with the increasing expense. The increasing government expenditures have a tendency not to contain health expenses, but to increase expenses. The expansion of public health insurance holders is containing the expenses, and the increasing number of doctors is pushing expenditures. This implies the health expenditures are influenced more by the induced demand of providers rather than the moral hazard of patients. However, the above result is opposite in Korean case. The existence of primary care doctors affects slightly up warding rather than containing expenditures. Finally the determinants are seriously depending upon which factors are included in the model and which statistical model is chosen. Therefore it must be cautious to interpret the results of statistical model.

  • Purpose - The propose of this study is to examine the effect of human development index on mobile telephony diffusion. Design/methodology/approach - This study fits the modidensity of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member countries with an econometric Gompertz growth model. The diffusion factors, including the human development index (HDI), gross domestic product (nominal) per capita, fixed-line telephony subscription, and population data of each member country from 2005 to 2018 are considered for the empirical experiment. Furthermore, the mobidensity of randomly sampled countries with very high human development scores (the Republic of Korea, Switzerland and Norway) and high development scores (Brazil and Costa Rica) have been examined with the same process as SAARC members. Findings - We have found a positive but insignificant relationship between the HDI value and mobile telephony diffusion in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Pakistan; a positive and statistically significant relationship at a 99% confidence level in SriLanka; and a negative and insignificant relationship in the Maldives and Nepal. HDI has both positive and negative effects on mobile telephony diffusion, with the nature of effect depending on the profiles of each country. HDI is a diffusion determinant of mobile telephony only for the high human development country groups. Research implications or Originality - This study provides a reference for policymakers, telecommunication stakeholders, and future researchers to design the telecommunication policies and strategies.

  • With a rapid diffusion of internet, more peoples are interested in electronic commerce and the various electronic commerce types are being appeared. In these respects, the internet auction being take the more attentions at the present. Since perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use are such a fundamental driver of usage intentions, it is important to understand the determinants of this construct and how their influences change. In these respects, the web site joyfulness, the web site trust and the institutional mechanism are included as the moderating variables in our research model. A better understanding of the interactions of these factors to the usage intention to the auction site would enable us to design the organizational interventions that would increase the user acceptance and the usage of auction systems. Therefore, the goal of the present research is to extend the organizational model of auction system with TAM's perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use and the additional motivating determinants. The result showed that the web site joyfulness and the trust were the significant determinants on the the usage of auction site. However, the direction of the effect was not consistant through the cases. The model suggested in this study need to be extended with including the more sociological factors and the empirical results founded in this study are required to be verified with the extended model.
