메탄 산소 확산화염에서 유속 변화에 따른 연소특성 (Combustion Characteristics for Varying Flow Velocity on Methane/Oxygen Diffusion Flames)

  • The combustion characteristics of methane oxygen diffusion flames have been investigated to give basic information for designing industrial oxyfuel combustors. NOx reduction has become one of the most determining factors in the combustor design since the small amount of nitrogen is included from the current low cost oxygen production process. Flame lengths decreased with increasing fuel or oxygen velocity because of the enhancement of mixing effect. Correlation equation between flame length and turbulent kinetic energy was proposed. NOx concentration was reduced with increasing fuel or oxygen velocity because of the enhanced entrainment of the product gas into flame zone as well as the reduction of residence time in combustion zone.

  • This study is an analysis of the turbulent diffusion flame with swirl flow and the calculated results are compared with experimental data in case of various swirl numbers and air-fuel rations. The mathematical model is restricted to single-phase, diffusion controlled combustion with swirl flow. Values of local flow properties were obtained by solving appropriate differential equation for continuity, momentum, stagnation enthalpy, concentration, turbulence energy, dissipation rate of turbulence energy, and the mean square of concentration fluctuation. The method is proposed for calculating the local probability of chemical reaction based on the use of the probability density function for the mixture fraction.

  • The diesel pre-heater has being used in cabin heating and coolant heating of engine to reduce the engine warm up time for commercial vehicle. The pre-heaters are classified as diesel spray combustor and it forms diffusion flame. By using swirler, a recirculation flow of hot product gases is established near the fuel nozzle and it helps the maintaining of diffusion flame. The design difference of swirler can affect on reaction characteristics and temperature distribution inside pre-heater. The purpose of this study is the investigation of the effect of swirler configuration on combustion characteristics. To solve spray combustion problem, the Euler-Lagrange approach discrete model is used to track droplet trajectory and evaporation history. The PDF equilibrium model is used for chemical reaction model. These models are implemented into the FLUENT code.

Syngas-순산소 확산화염의 연소특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Combustion Characteristics of Syngas-Oxyfuel Diffusion Flames)

  • The characteristics of syngas-oxyfuel combustion has been investigated experimentally in the present study. Experimental measurements were conducted to aid a fundamental design of a syngas-oxyfuel combustor with a double coaxial burner configuration. To examine the effects of different syngas fuels on combustion characteristics, various fuel types are utilized such as commercial coal gases (Texaco, Shell), COG (cokes oven gas), and $CH_4$ as a main component of natural gas. $CO_2$ was added to the four fuel types as a diluent gas to reduce the flame temperature. The flame images and emission characteristics of NOx and CO were examined for various equivalence ratio and $CO_2$ dilution ratio. The results show that CO emission was rapidly increased as equivalence ratio approached the stoichiometry condition by reducing the amount of oxygen. As the $CO_2$ dilution increased, CO emission increased while NOx emission decreased due to reduced flame temperature. When the syngas-oxyfuel combustor is operated with 20~40% of $CO_2$ dilution ratio, the CO and NOx emission levels were kept below 50 ppm and 25 ppm, respectively, with a high concentration of $CO_2$ over 95 vol.% in exhaust gases.

비직교 좌표변환에 의한 선회연소기내 난류재순환유동의 수치해석 (Numerical analysis of turbulent recirculating flow in swirling combustor by non-orthogonal coordinate transformation)

  • 본 연구에서는 계단형 벽면조건을 없게 하기 위해서 비직교 좌표계(non-orth- ogonal coordinate system)를 사용하여 수치해석하였다. 비직교 좌표계를 이용한 수 치해석의 예는 Thompson등이 Laplace방정식 혹은 Poisson방정식을 해석함으로써 비직 교 격자망을 구성한 바 있고, Fahgri와 Asako는 대수적 비직교 좌표변환으로 유한차분 방정식을 유도하여 비정규경계면을 갖는 관로에서의 유동특성을 해석하였으며 이재헌 과 이상렬은 Fahgri와 Asako의 방법을 비정규경계면을 갖는 밀폐공간내에서의 자연대 류의 수치해석에 적용한 바 있다. 본 해석에서도 Fahgri와 Asako의 변환법으로 유한 차분방정식을 유도하였는데, 이 방법을 사용할 경우 확대관의 경사벽면을 계단형으로 만들지 않고 유한차분방정식을 유도할 수 있어서 계단형 벽면으로 인한 해의 오차를 제거할 수 있다. Fig.2는 본 해석에서 사용한 비직교 격자망을 나타낸다.

세라믹 매트릭스 버너에 형성된 예혼합 화염의 NOx 및 CO 배출특성 (Nitric Oxide and Carbon Monoxide Emission from a Premixed Flame Stabilized in a Porous Ceramic Matrix Burner)

  • Emission characteristics of nitric oxides and carbon monoxide from a porous media combustor has been experiment studied. The relationship between the change of flame shape and emission has also been examined. As the equivalence ratio decreases, the flame shape on the ceramic matrix plate changes from a diffusion flame, R(radiant)-type flame, to B(Blue)-type flame. With large fuel flow rate, R-type flame turns to be two dimensional R-II type flame around the equivalence of 0.7. Carbon monoxide emission increases very rapid with decreasing equivalence ratio. It changes a lot from some 10 ppm to 100-10,000 ppm with the change of flame type from R-I to R-II type. Nitric oxide emission from the premixed burner is less than 25 ppm over all range of fuel flow rate, which is less than 20% of NOx emission from conventional gas burners.

재순환영역을 가지는 연소기내의 연소유동해석 (Analysis of Flows in the Combustor with Recirculating Flow Regime)

  • 비직교 일반좌표계를 사용하는 범용 연소유동해석 프로그램을 개발하여 재순환영역을 가지는 연소유동 등을 해석하였다. 본 프로그램은 유한체적법에 근간을 둔 비엇갈림격자계를 사용하며 직교좌표 속도성분을 종속변수로 하였다. 연소모델은 무한반응속도의 1단계 비가역 반응을 고려하였으며, 밀도가중평균된 지배방정식을 고려하였다. Conserved Scalar의 확률밀도함수를 clipped gauss 분포로 가정하였다 본 프로그램을 사용하여 재순환영역을 가지는 난류확산화염을 계산하였다. 계산결과는 실험결과와 마찬가지로 두개의 재순환영역을 보였으며, 속도, 난류운동에너지, 온도 및 농도 등이 실험결과와 양호하게 일치하는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • 산화제 주입기 배열 변화에 따른 End-Burning 하이브리드 연소기의 연소실 내부 유동장의 특성 및 온도장 분포도의 경향을 파악하기 위해 수치해석적 연구를 수행하였다. 스월을 동반하는 하이브리드 연소실내 확산 화염의 주요 거동을 얻기 위해 7가지의 다른 O/F 비를 갖는 연소의 기본 특성을 분석하였다. 산화제 주입기의 위치 변화 및 공급방식이 연료와 산화제의 혼합율을 크게 지배하고 온도분포에도 강한 영향을 미치는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구에 사용된 여러 산화제 주입기 배열중에서 counter rotating 유동을 유발시키는 주입기가 가장 좋은 혼합효율을 보였으나 벽면 근처에서 관찰된 고온부의 발생 문제가 대두되었다.

고압하에서 수소 확산화염의 소염에 미치는 복사 열손실 효과에 관한 수치적 연구 (A Numerical Study on Effect of Radiative Heat Loss on Extinction of Hydrogen Diffusion Flames at High Pressure)

  • Extinction characteristics of hydrogen-air diffusion flames at various pressures are investigated numerically by adopting counterflow flame configuration as a model flamelet. Especially, effect of radiative heat loss on flame extinction is emphasized. Only gas-phase radiation is considered here and it is assumed that $H_2O$ is the only radiating species. Radiation term depends on flame thickness, temperature, $H_2O$ concentration, and pressure. From the calculated flame structures at various pressures, flame thickness decreases with pressure, but its gradient decreases at high pressure. Flame temperature and mole fraction of $H_2O$ increase slightly with pressure. Accordingly, as pressure increases, radiative heat loss becomes dominant. When radiative heat loss is considered, radiation-induced extinction is observed at low strain rate in addition to transport-induced extinction. As pressure increases, flammable region, where flame is sustained, shifts to the high-temperature region and then, shrunk to the point on the coordinate plane of flame temperature and strain rate. The present numerical results show that radiative heat loss can reduce the operating range of a combustor significantly.

메탄 마이크로 제트화염의 부상과 NOx 배출에 대한 마이크로파 효과 (Effects of Microwave Induction on the Liftoff and NOx Emission in Methane Micro Jet Flames)

  • High efficient and environment friendly combustion technologies are used to be operated an extreme condition, which results in unintended flame instability such as extinction and oscillation. The use of electromagnetic energy is one of methods to enhance the combustion stability and a microwave as electromagnetic wave is receiving increased attention recently because of its high performance and low-cost system. In this study, an experiment was performed with jet diffusion flames induced by microwave. Micro jet was introduced to simulate the high velocity of industrial combustor. The results show that micro jet flames had three different modes with increasing oxidizer velocity; attached yellow flame, lifted flame, and lifted partially premixed flame. As a microwave was induced to flames, the overall flame stability and blowout limit were extended with the higher microwave power. Especially the interaction between a flame and a microwave was shown clearly in the partially premixed flame, in which the lift-off height decreased and NOx emission measured in post flame region increased with increasing microwave power. It might be attributed to increase of reactivity due to the abundance of radical pool and the enhanced absorption to thermal energy.
