  • Rene80 superalloy was liquid phase diffusion bonded by using pure boron (B) as an insert material. As a basic study for the possibility of practical application of this bonding method, hardness and high temperature tensile strength of the bonded joint and metallurgical analysis were investigated. As experimental results, hardness of the bonded joint was homogenized after bonding and the tensile strength at 1144K was obtained to 90% of that of base metal. But there were some problems to be improved also, that means the joint was hardened after bonding due to increase of B content and elongation was much lower than that of base metal. Flat area and (Mo, Cr, W) boride, which should be harmful for bonding strength, were observed on the fractured surface of the tensile tested specimen.

  • Cerebral ischemia results in neuronal changes in remote areas that have fiber connections with the ischemic area. The aim of this study was to investigate the nigral changes by examining the correlation between the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and the tissue structure. Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to middle cerebral artery occlusion. Four days after the occlusion, when T2-weighted images revealed the presence of an area of high signal intensity in the ipsilateral substantia nigra, and the ADCs were calculated and imaged. Histopathologic examination by both light and electron microscopy was performed on day 4 after surgery. This finding was consistent with the high signal intensity seen on T2-weighted and diffusion-weighted images, as well as with the ADC reduction, but we did not expect to observe uniform ADC reduction attributable mainly to astrocytic swelling in the perivascular end-feet.

  • A theoretical study for the laminar round jet diffusion flame impinging on the wall was carried out to predict the characteristics and structure of impinging jet flame and heat transfer to the wall. Finite chemistry via Arrhenius equation was adopted as the combustion model. All the transport properties were considered as the variable depending on the temperature and composition. For the parametric study, the distance from nozzle to perpendicular wall and Reynolds number at nozzle exit were chosen as the major parameters. As the results of the present study, the characteristics of flow field and the distributions of temperature, density and each chemical species were obtained. The heat transfer rate from flame to the wall and the effective heating area were calculated to investigate the influence of the major parameters on the heat transfer characteristics.

  • In this study, a jetty construction is taken into account for the reduction of sediment diffusive concentration incoming from the upstream river due to the urbanization and industrial development and to minimize the effects on the coastal ecosystems. The field observation and numerical calculation are conducted to analyze the diffusion zone of sediment concentration in the small estuary and coastal area. The specification of the installed jetty which is able to control the sediment concentration was decided based on the prediction of the dispersion area changes in space and time. The selected size and layout for the jetty design were examined for the dispersion zone by numerical calculation and field observation. As a result, the jetties constructed in the estuary retarded the dispersion rate of sediment concentration, so that the effect area of sediment dispersion was obviously decreased. In addition, the measured field data indicated that the sediment deposition in the inside of dikes could be controlled and the right side area of jetties could be preserved without influx sediment diffusion.

  • This study was predicted the diffusion of the conservative contaminant using a two-dimensional hydraulic model. The research area is upper basin of Jakwang river where the possibility where the pollutant of vast quantity will flow is high. Using SMS model, we calculated two-dimensional stream flow. And using this result, predicted the conduct of the conservative contaminant by pollutant transfer diffusion calculation. And also we predicted flow and contaminant diffusion in the near estuary by constructed guide bank. As a result of study, pollutant effect scope of the conservative contaminant was predicted with the fact that will broaden because of interception by guide bank. As discharge was increased from the Jakwang river, The diffusion of the pollutant is accelerated, also the effect scope increases.

  • When the historical data are available, the diffusion model, which describes the time pattern of the adoption process of a new product or technology or service, has been used as a reasonable predictor in the telecommunication demand forecasting area. This paper shows that the diffusion model is applicable when the historical data are not available. The model used is in the form of a "logistic" function. The parameters of the function are estimated using the questionnaire and the historical data of reference products. From the questionnaire, an initial and an upper limit long run value of the market share are estimated, and the diffusion time to the upper limit value is determined by the relation between the investment and the utility.

  • The diffusion characteristics of the high temperature and salinity water discharged in Chinhae Bay under BMP(Barge-Mounted Plants) desalination processes were simulated to access environmental impact. The 3-D baroclinic flow model is formulated by integrating the basic equations with respect to each control volume and by transforming them into a finite difference form using the space-staggered grid system. With a 3-D baroclinic flow model, the tide-induced and density-induced current was computed and confirmed by comparing with observed data. From the results of numerical experiment, it is expected that the maximum diffusion lengths of the high temperature and salinity which increase $0.6^{circ}C$ and 0.2 after discharging are 1 km and 3.5km, respectively. It may be expected that the discharge has an effect on surrounding area of discharge, but not an effect on whole area of Chinhae Bay.

  • Refined analysis depicting mass transportation and physicochemical reaction and reasonable computing load with acceptable DOFs are the two major challenges of numerical simulation for concrete durability. Mesoscopic numerical simulation for chloride diffusion considering binder, aggregate and interfacial transition zone is unable to be expended to the full structure due to huge number of DOFs. In this paper, a multiscale approach of combining both mesoscopic model including full-graded aggregate and equivalent macroscopic model was introduced. An equivalent conversion of chloride content at the Interfacial Transition Layer (ITL) connecting both models was considered. Feasibility and relative error were discussed by analytical deduction and numerical simulation. Case study clearly showed that larger analysis model in multiscale model expanded the diffusion space of chloride ion and decreased chloride content in front of rebar. Difference for single-scale simulation and multiscale approach was observed. Finally, this paper addressed some worth-noting conclusions about the chloride distribution and rebar corrosion regarding the configuration of rebar placement, rebar diameter, concrete cover and exposure period.

  • A T-shape structure was manufactured by the superplastic forming and diffusion bonding process using two Ti-3Al-2.5V alloy tubes. A Ti-3Al-2.5V tube was prepared for the hydroforming in the superplastic condition until it reaches a surface area such as a roof welded in the hole of another Ti-3Al-2.5V tube. Afterward, the superplastic forming process and the diffusion bonding process were carried out simultaneously until the appropriate bonding along the interface area of two Ti-3Al-2.5V tubes was obtained. The bonding qualities were different at each location of the entire interface according to the applied process conditions such as strain, pressure, temperature, holding time, geometries, etc. The microstructures of bonding interface have been observed to understand the characteristics of the applied processes in this study.

  • The purpose was to reduce the distortion of the image that occurs in the temporal bone area due to the very strong differences in susceptibility. A new SS-TSE technique was applied when examining the diffusion-weighted image of the temporal bone, where the auditory and facial nerves to be imaged were very thin and were adjacent to the cranial base including bone and air. This study was conducted from March 2020 to August of the same year, targeting 32 subjects who underwent the diffusion-weighted imaging of the temporal bone. To compare the distortion, existing SS-EPI technique and the new SS-TSE technique were both applied on the temporal bone area. As a result of the study, applying the new SS-TSE technique appeared to lower the distortion of images by 87.44, 46.13 and 42.35 % on the b-value 0, 800 and the ADC images, respectively. In conclusion, when using the new SS-TSE technique on the temporal bone DWI, distortion can be reduced, and thus images with high diagnostic value can be obtained.
