The variation of the surface structure of the Al adsorbed W(110) planes according to the coverage and the substrate temperature has been investigated using LEED and ISS When the Al atoms were adsorbed on the W(110) surface at room temperature, a p($1{\times}1$) of the fcc (111) face were found at the coverage higher than 4 ML. When the substrate temperature was kept at 900 K during Al adsorption and the coverage was 1.0 ML, the surface revealed a p($1{\times}1$) of the bcc(110) face and when the coverage is 1.5 ML, the surface showed a p($1{\times}1$) of the bcc (110) face together with a p($1{\times}1$) double domain structure (fcc (111) face) rotated ${\pm}3^{\circ}$ from the [100] direction of the W(110) surface. When Al atoms were adsorbed on the W(110) surface at the substrate temperature of 1000 K and the coverage was higher than 1.0 ML, the surface revealed a p($1{\times}1$) of the bcc(110) face together with p($1{\times}1$) double domain structure(fcc(111) face) rotated ${\pm}3^{\circ}{\sim}5^{\circ}$ from the [100] direction of the W(110) surface. When Al atoms were adsorbed on the W(110) surface at the substrate temperature of 1100 K and the coverage was 0.5 ML, Al atoms formed a p($2{\times}1$) double domain structure When the coverage was 1.0 ML, the double domain hexagonal structure (fcc(111) face) rotated ${\pm}5^{\circ}$ from the [100] direction of the W(110) surface and another distorted hexagonal structure was found. Low-energy electron diffraction results along with ion scattering spectroscopy results showed that the Al atoms followed the Volmer-Weber growth mode at high temperature.
We report on the fabrication and photoelectrochemical(PEC) properties of a $Cu_2O$ thin film/ZnO nanorod array oxide p-n heterojunction structure with ZnO nanorods embedded in $Cu_2O$ thin film as an efficient photoelectrode for solar-driven water splitting. A vertically oriented n-type ZnO nanorod array was first prepared on an indium-tin-oxide-coated glass substrate via a seed-mediated hydrothermal synthesis method and then a p-type $Cu_2O$ thin film was directly electrodeposited onto the vertically oriented ZnO nanorods array to form an oxide semiconductor heterostructure. The crystalline phases and morphologies of the heterojunction materials were characterized using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy as well as Raman scattering. The PEC properties of the fabricated $Cu_2O/ZnO$ p-n heterojunction photoelectrode were evaluated by photocurrent conversion efficiency measurements under white light illumination. From the observed PEC current density versus voltage (J-V) behavior, the $Cu_2O/ZnO$ photoelectrode was found to exhibit a negligible dark current and high photocurrent density, e.g., $0.77mA/cm^2$ at 0.5 V vs $Hg/HgCl_2$ in a $1mM\;Na_2SO_4$ electrolyte, revealing an effective operation of the oxide heterostructure. In particular, a significant PEC performance was observed even at an applied bias of 0 V vs $Hg/HgCl_2$, which made the device self-powered. The observed PEC performance was attributed to some synergistic effect of the p-n bilayer heterostructure on the formation of a built-in potential, including the light absorption and separation processes of photoinduced charge carriers.

The performance of wave control by a surface-mounted horizontal membrane is analyzed in the frame of linear potential theory. To employ the eigenfunction expansion method, the fluid domain is divided into two regions i.e. region without membrane and membrane-covered region. By matching the each solutions at boundaries of adjacent regions, the complete solution is obtained. The present analytical method solving the scattering problem directly gives the same results as Cho and Kim(1998)'s method solving the diffraction and the radiation problem separately. To verify the developed model, the model test with a surface-mounted horizontal membrane is conducted at the wave tank(36m${\times}$0.91m${\times}$l.22m). The analytic results are in good agreement with the experimental results. The reflection and transmission coefficients are investigated according to the change of membrane tension, length and incident frequencies.
H-shaped amphiphilic pentablock copolymers $(PSt)_2-b-PCL-b-PEO-b-PCL-b-(PSt)_2$ was synthesized via chemoenzymatic method by combining enzyme-catalyzed ring-opening polymerization (eROP) of ${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone (${\varepsilon}$-CL) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene. By this process, we obtained copolymers with controlled molecular weight and low polydispersity. The structure and composition of the obtained copolymers were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and infrared spectroscopy analysis (IR). The crystallization behavior of the copolymers was analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The crystallization behavior of the H-shaped block copolymers demonstrated a PCL dominate crystallization. The self-assembly behavior of the copolymers was investigated in aqueous media. The hydrodynamic diameters of the copolymer micelles in aqueous solution were measured by dynamic light scattering (DLS). The morphology of the copolymer micelles was observed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The hydrodynamic diameters of spherical micelles declined gradually with the increase of the hydrophobic chain lengths of the copolymers. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) values were determined from fluorescence emission, and it was found that the CMCs decreased with an increase of PSt hydrophobic block lengths.

Silicon-carbon composite was prepared by the magnesiothermic reduction of mesoporous silica and subsequent impregnation with a carbon precursor. This was applied for use as an anode material for high-performance lithium-ion batteries. Well-ordered mesoporous silica(SBA-15) was employed as a starting material for the mesoporous silicon, and sucrose was used as a carbon source. It was found that complete removal of by-products ($Mg_2Si$ and $Mg_2SiO_4$) formed by side reactions of silica and magnesium during the magnesiothermic reduction, was a crucial factor for successful formation of mesoporous silicon. Successful formation of the silicon-carbon composite was well confirmed by appropriate characterization tools (e.g., $N_2$ adsorption-desorption, small-angle X-ray scattering, X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analyses). A lithium-ion battery was fabricated using the prepared silicon-carbon composite as the anode, and lithium foil as the counter-electrode. Electrochemical analysis revealed that the silicon-carbon composite showed better cycling stability than graphite, when used as the anode in the lithium-ion battery. This improvement could be due to the fact that carbon efficiently suppressed the change in volume of the silicon material caused by the charge-discharge cycle. This indicates that silicon-carbon composite, prepared via the magnesiothermic reduction and impregnation methods, could be an efficient anode material for lithium ion batteries.
With the recent prediction of 'Cycle 25', the importance of space weather research increases. Accordingly, the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC)-23 has adopted Agenda Item 9.1a) and carried out sharing researches between active/passive space weather observation systems and existing services. Therefore, in this paper, in order to increase the precision of space weather environment data and secure the frequency spectrum for observation systems, the direct interference effect from the weather radar in Gosan, Jeju on the space weather observation receiver in Hallim, Jeju, and the indirect interference on the observation receiver by diffraction and scattering from the radar target have been analyzed. As a result, it can be known that the radar direction, the propagation direction diffracted and scattered from the target, and the Rradar Cross Section (RCS) of the radar target, the reception area of the space weather observation antenna, and the antenna off-boresight are important parameters for the interference effect analysis.

Results of an experimental study of possible ways to extend the capabilities of a big size transmission type holographic screen are presented. Different approaches to the problem of making a big size screen have been considered and tested experimentally. Up to 60$\times$80 $\textrm{cm}^2$ screens have been recorded on a single photographic plate VRP-M. By attaching a mirror behind the screen, the reflection mode of operation has been obtained. In this arrangement some additional peculiarities appear in the screen, which can be used to extend the screen capabilities. The first possibility is to increase the screen size by mosaicking the subscreens in the reflection mode of operation. Screens of 120$\times$80 $\textrm{cm}^2$ and 180$\times$40 $\textrm{cm}^2$ have been obtained by proper alignment of 60$\times$40 $\textrm{cm}^2$ subscreens. The second possibility is to move the viewing Bone by rotation of the screen together with the mirror and thereby realize by the eye-tracking capability. Methods of increasing vertical size of the viewing zone have been considered. Along with the multi-exposure method, which was considered in previous papers, addition of the vertical diffuser with the optimized scattering angle has been tested experimentally. The vertical size of the viewing zone has been increased by up to 10-15 cm. Another method consists of usage of a diffraction grating with vertical dispersion to solve the same problem.
The development of the crystalline structure of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) in a confined geometry was investigated with optical microscope, small angle light scattering, and X-ray diffraction. The rejected distance, which was represented in terms of the parameter $\delta$, played an important role in determining the morphological patterns of poly (ethylene terethphalate) (PET/PTT) blend. In case of stepwise crystallization, the crystallization of PTT commenced in the interspherulitic region between the grown PET crystals and proceeded until the interspherulitic space was filled with the PTT crystals. The spherulitic surface of the PET crtstals acted as the nucleation sites where the PTT molecules preferentially crystallized, leading to the formation of transcrystalline structure. As a result, a mixed morphological pattern was observed in the PTT-rich phase: one was a typical spherulitic texture and the other was a transcrystalline texture. Some of the molecular conformations of PTT, which could adopt in the absence of the space limitation, were probably forbidden in the interlamellar and/or interfibrillar regions of the PET spherulite. This constraint was responsible for difference in the crystallization and melting behavior of PTT between the intra and interspheulitic regions of PET.
Ultrasonic irradiation in a solution during the chemical reaction may accelerate the rate of the reaction and the crystallization at low temperature. We have synthesized nanometer sized magnetite particles using coprecipitation method, sonochemical method without surfactant, and sonochemical method with surfactant, in order to investigate the effect of ultrasonic irradiation and surfactant on the coprecipitates of metal ions. The size of the magnetite nanoparticles prepared by coprecipitation method, and sonochemical method without surfactant showed broad distributions. But we got uniform nanoparticles using a sonochemical method with oleic acid. The average size of the particles can be controlled by the ratio $R=[H_2O]/[surfactant]$. The size of the magnetite nanoparticles prepared by this method showed narrow distributions. We have characterized the nanoparticles using an X-ray diffraction (XRD), a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), and atomic force microscope (AFM). The size and distribution of the magnetite nanoparticles were measured by dynamic light scattering (DLS) method.

Sn-filled and Fe-doped $CoSb_3$ skutterudites were synthesized by encapsulated induction melting. Single ${\delta}$-phase was successfully obtained by subsequent annealing and confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. Temperature dependences of Seebeck coefficient, electrical resistivity and thermal conductivity were examined from 300 K to 700 K. The positive Seebeck coefficient confirmed the p-type conduction. Electrical resistivity increased with increasing temperature, which shows that the $Sn_zCo_3FeSb_{12}$ skutterudite is highly degenerate. Thermal conductivity was reduced by Sn-filling because the filler atoms acted as phonon scattering centers in the skutterudite lattice. Thermoelectric figure of merit was enhanced by Sn filling and its optimum filling content was considered to be z=0.3 in the $Sn_zCo_3FeSb_{12}$ system.
